My favorites are The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan, Bravehart, and The Battle of the Bulge. What are yours?

Also, has anyone seen a movie called Stalingrad? I havent seen it anywhere, but i remember someone telling me about it.

how can you make a thread based on this, and never have seen the best one. I mean the director, the cast

LAURENCE FISHBURNE IS IN IT.. and hes skinny as hell.
its a masterpeice, and i watch it everytime it comes on IFC, which is my favorite channel...

stop talking on mx
goto blockbuster
pick it up
take it back 14 days later (since they dont have late fees)

I made a thread like this a while back. And yeh, I have Stalingrad. Its a German movie that might be why your having trouble finding it. But if you find it I suggest you buy it. Favourite War Movies:

Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Stalingrad
Das Boot
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
Schindlers List <------Not really a war film

War movies are interesting, but you guys are overlooking some great ones.

Pork Chop Hill - starring Gregory Peck. A movie with razor-sharp historical accuracy detailing the battle for Pork Chop Hill, a worthless peace of land used as a proving ground in the Korean War

Tora Tora Tora! - dramatically, and once again - very historically accurate - detailing the mishaps, mistakes and buildup to and attack of Pearl Harbor. More entertaining with the film of the same name and completely accurate.

I like the one about that risk-taking, maverick recruit, who throws out the rulebook and leads his platoon to victory in (insert war here). And he gets the girl at the end of the movie. Anyone know which movie I'm talking about?

Apocalypse Now

Plus some of the old black and white war films were quite good. I can't think of the names of any now though.

Full Metal Jacket

The only war movie where a small group of Americans doesn't single-handedly win the whole war.

Very Underrated= Three Kings

I'm very surprised this movie doesn't get more recognition.

The direction is stylish, but in a raw, gritty sort of way. Plus, there is this one scene where the soldiers break the cease fire that just screams for surround sound.

Check out this very underrated film about the Gulf War. The only thing I would omit is Jamie Kennedy. (Even though his role is very small.)

Note: I think the torture scene could become a soon-to-be classic scene, I've already seen it parodied a few times.

Tora Tora Tora! was great in the historical perspective but wasn't as entertaining as say, the attack on Pearl Harbour in the movie Pearl Harbour (the only good part in the movie). My favorites are Enemy at the Gates and Black Hawk Down

Also Band of Brothers isn't really a movie but it deserves a mention, it is absolutely brilliant. So moving and just a great watch.
