NME.com reports that ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, in an interview on the UK's Virgin Radio, has made a second claim to have confirmation that ex-bandmate Axl Rose's long-awaited record 'Chinese Democracy' is finished and due for release next month.

Though we're already half-way into Feburary, the be-curled seemed confident in the knowledge the album would surface some time in March, despite the absence of any promotional marketing for the album to date. He and Rose haven't spoken in ten years, according to Rose himself, and both have assembled new bands since the guitarist left in 1997. However, he had only positive words to say about his former friend: I'm just waiting for the record to come out, so I'm glad where it's got to the point that that's happening."

Slash added: "Yeah, it's going to happen, I've been made aware it's been heard. I'm really excited, it's been a long time waiting to see what the next step around the corner was going to be for him (Axl Rose), we know where everybody else is, but we were wondering what he was going to be doing. It's coming out in March and apparently it sounds great."

Songs slated to appear on the album include 'The Blues,' 'Madagascar,' both of which have appeared in live sets in recent years, aswell as the unheard 'There Was A Time' (T.W.A.T.) and 'I.R.S.,' a demo of which was partially leaked last year.

I would have thought March would be too soon for a release though, it doesn;t leave much time to market the thing.

Sp1at.com reports that the second-generation Guns N' Roses will headline this year's Rock In Rio festival in Lisbon, Portugal.

Rock In Rio-Lisboa 2006 will take place in two instalments- the main portion of the festival taking in three days from June 2-4. Already confirmed for the fifth edition of the legendary rock festival are Roger Water, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anastacia and Sting, who will close the event on the evening of June 4.

Should the band be confirmed for this year's festival, it will be their third time playing. The original Guns N' Roses band played Rock In Rio II in 1991, while Axl Rose's reformed Roses rocked Rio ten years later.

Guns have also been confirmed for the Nova Rock festival in Austria from June 15-17, co-headlining with Metallica.

And there's no conformation on the Rock in Rio website.

It's a major festival. They've today been confirmed for Download and Gods of Metal, while a Rio announcement is expected today as well.

In other news, from Pitchf:rolleyes:rk:
Don't think too hard, Axl's putting in all the work you need. Before you start with this and all the other G'n'R leaks, immediately forget that David Wild assertion "This is Led Zep + Beck + NIN!" If I was going to do rock math I'd say something along the lines of Gorillaz drums + wannabe Slash-ing / Casablancas' vocal mix from Is This It. It's hard to tell if this is a muddy demo or if Axl is intentionally distorting his vocals á la "Oh My God". Pray for the former. Seems he's trying to channel "Estranged" or at least Meat Loaf. He says, "There was a time we didn't want to know it all." Likewise, Dreads. All this bombast-- busy guitars, plinko keys, the shrill tone, mercilessly elongated soloing-- makes for a mess. The grandeur is there, but that wasn't necessarily what brought the acclaim. We all want Chinese Democracy to liberate. Maybe Axl should bite the bullet and get Mutt Lange on the horn. That's a clip from Sweet Child O' Mine recorded for the Big Daddy soundtrack; the first half of the track is taken from Live Era, the second half was record anew in the studio with a solo, I believe, by Robin Finck. Don't ask me why it came about like that, but it did. It's good stuff, the new section at least. It's available for download at the same site.

So now the new tracks (IRS, Better, There Was A Time & Catcher In The Rye) have had a chance to settle in, what's the verdict?

The following press release, which was sent earlier, is the official response from W. Axl Rose in regards to the lawsuits filed by Saul "Slash" Hudson and Michael "Duff" McKagan. A version of this release was also sent out over the Business Wire through the Entertainment Wire National with Trades, but was edited and did not contain all of the information intended. The attached release is the version that should be used in all reporting of Mr. Rose's reply to the lawsuits and all inquiries about this discrepancy should be directed to Mr. Howard Weitzman, Esq.
---

W. Axl Rose, on Friday March 3, 2006 responded to one of Saul "Slash" Hudson's baseless lawsuits by filing a counterclaim asking the Federal Court to confirm his ownership of his own creative works. Slash and Michael “Duff” McKagan had previously filed cases both in Federal Court and in the Los Angeles Superior Court making numerous false allegations about Axl. Mr. Rose believes that once apprised of the true facts the Judge or Jury deciding these lawsuits will rule in Axl’s favor on every issue before them.

More surprising to Axl are recent media reports that Slash (Saul Hudson) is claiming that he has always been supportive of Axl Rose and the new Guns N' Roses. Slash's actions in recent years have in fact been anything but supportive. Besides the lawsuits filed against Axl Rose, claiming, among other things, that Axl does not own the copyright in the songs that Axl co-authored with his former Guns N' Roses band mates, Slash has continually made negative and malicious statements about Axl in order to garner publicity for himself.

As an example the Federal lawsuit Hudson and McKagan filed was based on a faulty premise from the start. What Hudson and McKagan attempted to portray as egregious misconduct by Axl was in fact -- as Slash and Duff have learned -- nothing more than a clerical error committed by ASCAP. Had Slash and Duff or their representatives bothered to pick up the phone the clerical error could have been easily sorted out without the need for filing an utterly baseless lawsuit which one can only assume had been filed for the purposes of self-publicity at Axl’s expense.

The lawsuit also attacks Axl’s integrity as Slash and Duff, in a vindictive attempt to aggrandize their own stature, re-write history through false statements, which have been repeated by the media. Their attacks on Axl stand in sharp contrast to Rose’s conduct. Axl has at all times worked diligently to maintain the artistic integrity of the band by choosing with great care which properties to license Guns N’ Roses songs to and refusing to participate in what he believed were potentially embarrassing projects. He has fought to avoid the release of material that does not live up to the highest of standards demanded by the band’s history and it’s followers. Axl chose not to respond through the media while taking the high road in the face of Slash and Duff’s attacks. Hudson and McKagan, by contrast, have told ever changing - and false - stories regarding the formation of the band and it’s history and believe that the band’s catalogue should be exploited without careful consideration - for the Guns N’ Roses brand and their loyal audience - or Axl’s input as if it were fast food by anyone willing to pay for it.

For over 10 years Slash, a consummate press, photo and media opportunist and manipulator, has attacked Axl Rose on a number of levels. Slash’s actions whether in or out of Gun's N' Roses have been a complete betrayal across the board of his alleged friendship and business relationship with Axl and the so called brotherhood and band loyalties that are supposed to have existed. Instead Slash has publicly attempted, by soliciting public and media support, to take credit for something that was not his or anyone else's to take, notwithstanding that Slash played a major part in the success of the band as Axl has continually acknowledged.

In October of 2005 Slash made an unannounced 5:30 AM visit to Axl Rose’s house. Not appearing to be under the influence, Slash came to inform Axl that: “Duff was spineless,” “Scott was a fraud,” that he “hates Matt Sorum” and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself “the stronger.” Based on his conduct in showing up at Rose's home, Axl was hopeful that Slash would live up to his pronouncements that he wanted to end the war and move on with life. Unfortunately that did not prove to be the case.

Mr. Rose's attorney Howard Weitzman commented, "Axl regrets having to spend time and energy on these distractions but he has a responsibility to protect the Guns N’ Roses legacy and expose the truth. Axl believes he has been left with no alternative but to respond to these lawsuits. It would have been Axl’s preference to resolve disputes with Slash and Duff in private. The courthouse is not his choice of forum. However, Axl could no longer sit quietly and allow the continuing dissemination of

Just last month, while speaking to a British radio station, Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash proclaimed that former bandmate Axl Rose's long-awaited, fabled magnum opus Chinese Democracy would finally surface in March. Slash added that he's "always been supportive" of Axl's work with the refurbished GN'R, and that he was glad the world would soon experience Democracy.

But things actually aren't chummy between Rose and his erstwhile GN'R comrades. They haven't been in more than a decade — not since the original members of Guns N' Roses parted ways. A statement released Monday (March 6) by Rose's management, the Sanctuary Group, called Slash's remarks "surprising" and dubbed him "a consummate press, photo and media opportunist and manipulator" who "has attacked Axl Rose on a number of levels."

On Friday Rose filed suit against Saul "Slash" Hudson, seeking a federal judge's confirmation of "his ownership of his own creative works." The filing comes in response to a federal suit filed in August by Slash and bassist Duff McKagan, who accused the GN'R frontman of changing the publisher of the group's copyrighted songs without first conferring with them and then pocketing the royalties. That suit claimed "Rose's actions were malicious, fraudulent and oppressive, and undertaken in conscious disregard of [Slash and Duff's] property rights."

There's no word on what financial damages, if any, last week's filing will seek.

The statement issued in the wake of the suit blasts Axl's former allies, claiming "Slash has continually made negative and malicious statements about Axl [in the press] in order to garner publicity for himself" and that both musicians have made "numerous false allegations about Axl ... [and that] Mr. Rose believes that once apprised of the true facts, the judge or jury deciding these lawsuits will rule in Axl's favor on every issue before them."

The most recent suit filed against Axl, according to the statement, "attacks [his] integrity as Slash and Duff, in a vindictive attempt to aggrandize their own stature, rewrite history through false statements, which have been repeated by the media. Their attacks on Axl stand in sharp contrast to Rose's conduct. Axl has at all times worked diligently to maintain the artistic integrity of the band by choosing with great care which properties to license Guns N' Roses songs to."

Moreover, the statement claims Slash showed up uninvited at Axl's door early one morning in October to offer a truce. "Slash came to inform Axl that: 'Duff was spineless,' '[Velvet Revolver frontman] Scott [Weiland] was a fraud,' that he 'hates [Revolver drummer] Matt Sorum' and that in this ongoing war, contest or whatever anyone wants to call it that Slash has waged against Axl for the better part of 20 years, that Axl has proven himself 'the stronger.' "

"Axl regrets having to spend time and energy on these distractions, but he has a responsibility to protect the Guns N' Roses legacy and expose the truth," Howard Weitzman, Axl's attorney, said in the statement. "Axl believes he has been left with no alternative but to respond to these lawsuits. It would have been Axl's preference to resolve disputes with Slash and Duff in private. The courthouse is not his choice of forum. However, Axl could no longer sit quietly and allow the continuing dissemination of falsehoods and half-truths by his former bandmates."

Responding to a press release recently issued by Axl Rose's attorney in which Axl made several accusations and characterizations of ex-Guns N' Roses members, Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has apparently decided to get into the public brawl that extends from the court where Axl and Slash are fighting over the Guns N' Roses legacy, and it seems, has issued this open letter at velvet-revolver.com, according to KNAC.com:

"Get in the rinGo to the gym motherf--ker, or if you prefer, get a new wig motherf--ker. I think I’ll resist the urge to “stoop” to your level.

Oh ****, here it comes, you fat, botox faced, wig wearin’ f--k! O.K. I feel better now. Don’t think for a second we don’t know where those words came from. Your unoriginal, uncreative little mind, the same mind that had to rely on its bandmates to write melodies and lyrics. Who’s the fraud now bitch?

Damn, I couldn’t imagine people writing for me. How many albums have you put out man and how long did it take the current configuration of this so-called “band” to make this album? How long? And without the only guys that validated the name. How dare you! Shame on you! How dare you call our bass player “spineless”.

We toured our album over a year and a half. How many shows have you played over the last ten years? Oh, that’s right - you bailed out on your long awaited comeback tour, leaving your remaining fans feeling shall we say a trifle miffed?! I won’t even list what I’ve accomplished because I don’t need to.

What we’re talking about here is a frightened little man who once thought he was king, but unfortunately this king without his court is nothing but a memory of the asshole he once was.

Yours truly,

Scott Weiland"

Nice little bio, I'm a huge Guns' N' Roses' fan but there were a few facts in your post that I never knew about. It came as quiet a shock to me. From all the info I've read or seen on TV Slash and Steven were in the band Hollywood Rose and they met Izzy and Axl from L.A. Gun's to form the band, then they later met Duff because he was Izzy's neighbour (that was noted). But all the info was false and ****ty, I had absolutely no clue that Tracii Guns and this Rob Gardner guy were from the band Hollywood Rose.

From Spin.com:

Guns N' Roses
Chinese Democracy
(Interscope)
By: Chuck Klosterman

March 27, 2006

The endless wait is over.

It’s been a long time since Guns N’ Roses have released an album of new material. Everybody knows this, but it’s a fact that bears repeating. If you purchased a kitten on the day that Use Your Illusion I & II arrived in stores, it’s probably dead by now. As a consequence, there has been a great deal of pressure on Axl Rose to deliver a record that would validate a 15-year, $13 million wait. There is really only one way for Chinese Democracy to avoid utter and absolute failure: It needs to be the greatest rock album ever made.

Chinese Democracy is not the greatest rock album ever made.

Oh, it’s certainly awesome, but I don’t think it’s "15 years awesome." Had Axl released his album after a silence of, say, 11 years and two months (at a cost of, say, $11.5 million), Chinese Democracy would be an undeniable masterpiece, but considering the circumstances, some of this work seems shoddy. I get the impression most of the 13 songs were written between 1993 and 1999, and Rose merely spent six or seven years touching them up in the studio. One is forced to wonder if a track like "Madagascar" was only recorded 75 or 80 times, which calls Axl’s alleged "maniacal perfectionism" directly into question.

Does Chinese Democracy offer glimpses of the paranoid, misogynistic genius we once heard on the soundtrack of Interview With the Vampire? Absotively. "The Blues" might be Rose’s crowning career achievement: It’s an epic combination of mid-period Stevie Wonder, early Elton John, and side two of In Through the Out Door. This is the kind of gutter-glam boogie ballad that makes "November Rain" seem like a bucket of burro vomit warming in the afternoon sun. Chinese Democracy is simultaneously propulsive and ponderous, and there are some electrifying guitar arpeggios on both "Silk Worm" and "Thursday Morning Strip Club" (performed, I assume, by either Buckethead, Robin Finck, Zakk Wylde, Johnny Marr, or Brian May -- all five are listed in the liner notes). But this transcendence is sporadic at best: All too often, Rose’s sonic neurosis plunges into self-reflexive self-indulgence, most notably on the outdated 14-minute rap-rock anthem "Pound You (Good)" and an embarrassing "roots rock" duet with new buddy Dave Pirner titled "You’re Still Too Sweet Not to Be My Baby Anymore." Several songs make thinly veiled references to the architect who designed Rose’s backyard topiary garden, a move that may confuse casual listeners.

Obviously, the sexy albatross hanging around Rose’s wiry jugular is simple modernity: Could he create an album that would sound contemporary -- and competitive -- in today’s ever-evolving marketplace? As such, it is hard to understand why he elected to have Chinese Democracy coproduced by Bob Ezrin (Pink Floyd, Kiss) and Phil Ramone (Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand). Songs like "Catcher in the Rye" exhibit the sculpted sheen of Billy Joel’s Glass Houses, and the LP includes several tracks on which GNR bassist Tommy Stinson appears to be playing a note-for-note replication of the bass line from "Another Brick in the Wall." Skeptics might also bristle at the anger that still resides in Axl’s heart; his hairstyle and facial features have changed, but his inner intensity remains grizzly-esque. On the caustic rocker "Slash and Burned," Rose lashes out at his former bandmates now in Velvet Revolver with staggering specificity: "Your singer has cocaine eyes and a skeletonized trance / We’ll see if RCA recoups their advance." Rose has also retained his pathological distaste for the media, lyrically attacking the editors of Vanity Fair, MTV personality Sway, numerous teenage bloggers, and the city hall reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer (who, curiously, has never written about pop music).

Still, Rose always possesses the potential to surprise us, as he does on a slightly reggaetón cover of Thin Lizzy’s "Cowboy Song" and a faithful (albeit befuddling) version of "Think About You," a tune actually written and recorded by Guns N’ Roses in 1987. But a deeper quandary remains: Does Chinese Democracy accomplish its goal? After all this time and all that money, will this album truly bring democracy to China?

I don’t know. I just don’t know.

hahahaha

As a reformed Alice in Chains prepare to hit the festival circuit in Europe and North America this summer, rumours abound that ex-Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan may join the band as a second guitarist, according to Rolling Stone.

McKagan is no stranger to the role, having played with the band last month at VH1's 'Decades Rock Live!' taping, while he also took up rhythm guitar for his shortlived Neurotic Outsiders side-project in 1996/7 as the foil to Sex Pistol Steve Jones.

Singer William DuVall will stand in for the deceased Layne Staley on the tour, as he did for the VH1 special, however the band also promised 'a few special guests.'
http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news.php?newsid=362&genreid=0

Soul Asylum will deliver 'The Silver Lining,' on July 11, their first since the death of bassist Karl Mueller.

The record features the final recordings featuring Mueller, who succumbed to throat cancer last June, and is the band's first in eight years. Ex-Replacements bassist Tommy Stinson, now of Guns N' Roses, handles bass duties on two new tracks and vocals on a further four. Also featured is famed drummer Michael Bland (of Prince fame).

Both Stinson and Bland are scheduled to join the band on a summer tour, however this may conflict with Stinson's commitment to Guns N' Roses, who tour the festivals of Europe from May to July.

Axl made an appearance on the Eddie Trunk radio show last night.
He's in New York City rehearsing with the rest of the band and when Sebastian Bach was on the show, he invited Axl to come over to the radio station to chat.

Axl joined Sebastian, Eddie, Scott Ian and Chris Jerricho later and they spent the time talking about everything from WASP, the tour memories (Skid Row opening for GN'R in New York in 1991 when Axl was late), meeting David Lee Roth, playing records and talking a bit about GN'R's future plans.

Axl mentioned that GN'R were working on a new song that's not been recorded yet while rehearsing in New York.

Regarding the album's release he said that it'll be out this fall or late fall.

There'll be a third guitarist in the band and Izzy migt show up at the shows. Some interesting stuff in here. Including Axl mentioning a Fall release.

Guitar shredder Ron Thal of the New York City-based alternative-rap-metal project BUMBLEFOOT has joined GUNS N' ROSES as the replacement for Buckethead. Thal is making his live debut with Axl Rose and company Friday night (May 12) at the opening night of a four-date stint at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Ron Thal started as a solo artist on Shrapnel/Roadrunner Records with the instrumental guitar-oriented CD "The Adventures Of Bumblefoot" in May 1995 (voted one of the Best Newcomers in Young Guitar magazine's Readers' Poll in January 1996) and the vocal "Hermit" CD in January 1997. Through his own production company, Hermit Inc., Thal (a.k.a. Bumblefoot) has released his own music, and has worked as a producer, songwriter, and hired musician. Credits include CNN, MTV, Jessica Simpson, Cher, LeAnn Rimes, and many more.

Apparently he had a nightmare. Screwed up a couple of solos, looked nervous all night and played a 5-minute bore of a shred solo on his patented giant foot guitar.

Band closes out four-show NYC stint with a bang.
Leave it to Axl Rose to save the best for last.
On Wednesday night, during the band's fourth and final warm-up show at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, the much-rumored reunion of Axl with erstwhile GN'R guitarist Izzy Stradlin finally came to pass.
Izzy's appearance led many in attendance to believe that former lead guitarist Slash, who was similarly touted by insiders as a possible guest performer before the band's first New York gig on May 12, wouldn't be far behind — but no joy.
Stradlin, who quit the band mid-tour in late 1991 and has since released four albums (solo or with his short-lived group, the Ju Ju Hounds) joined GN'R for three tunes: "Think About You," "Patience" and "Night Train."
The concert, which concluded shortly after 2 a.m., also featured guest vocalist Kid Rock on "Night Train." The four sold-out shows acted as a warm-up for GN'R's European festival appearances this summer. No other North American dates have been scheduled so far.
Rose introduced Stradlin before "Think About You" — although his comments were almost immediately drowned out by screams from the audience as the guitarist strutted onstage. The two hugged before launching into the number, and one eyewitness reported seeing Stradlin's eyes welling with tears during "Patience."
Various online GN'R messageboards have been buzzing with speculation of a full-band reunion since word of Stradlin's arrival reached fans via text message. "There's going to be a reunion for sure," wrote one fan. "There's too much money involved for it not to happen. Izzy will bring the rest of the guys around, you watch."

Why don't you buy a ticket for someone? People usually like free things. That would be a good plan, but my card won't let me order tickets online and I have no chance of getting them through the phonelines. The only reason I have a chance of getting 1 tickets was because my mum said she'd do it, I'd feel way to guilty asking her to pay for a friend....especially when I already owe her money.

I've explored all the possibilites, and I think I might aswell write it off. It's been nearly a decade for me, I don't mind waiting a bit longer I guess.

John Atkin reflects on Sunday @ Download as Guns n' Roses headlined the festival with their appetite for self-destruction turning into a masterclass.

There's a moment when it all hangs in the balance.

For 30 minutes, Guns 'n Roses have singed the eyebrows and eardrums of the Download crowd. After being over an hour late on stage at Hammersmith earlier in the week, Gn'R are on-time and on-form, opening with flashbombs and the one-two-three suckerpunch of Welcome To The Jungle, It's So Easy and Mr Brownstone.

Live And Let Die and Knockin' On Heaven's Door follow, before guitarist Robin Finck picks out the signature riff to Sweet Child O'Mine.

But you can tell from the giant screens flanking the stage that all is not well on the braided, goateed visage of Axl Rose. He's been carping about the stage being too slippy and, during a front-of-crowd walkabout, appears to aim the 'c' word at an over-zealous steward. As the band's most famous song dies, he abruptly announces: "We're having some technical problems, so we're gonna take a break."

I was on this Leicestershire soil in 1988 when the over-exuberant response to Guns' debute Donington appearance led to the fatal crushing of two fans. With tonight's restless crowd, semi-delirious on three days of booze, guitars and 30-degree heat, this could all turn nasty. Just as it seems as though Axl's well-documented appetite for self-destruction is about to consume another comeback appearance, guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal saves the day, appearing alone, stage front, to crank out a guitar-only version of Don't Cry which quells the bottle-fight in the crowd enough for normal service to (almost) be resumed.

You Could Be Mine claws back more ground but then Axl's gone again, leaving Finck and Richard Fortus to widdle their way through a (frankly excruciating) guitar instrumental version of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". That's followed by the night's first new song (The Blues?) in which the level of chatter in the crowd, followed by booing and chants of "sort your f****** head out" , have seasoned Axl-watchers on alert yet again. When bassist Tommy Stinson grabs the vocal mic and threatens to go home if he's hit by one more flying bottle, the rainclouds gathering above Download for the first time all weekend seem an apt, if ominous, portent of a coming storm.

Maybe Axl needs this danger, this threat of impending violence, to really get the adrenaline racing. And as the band rips defiantly in to Out Ta Get Me, the whole dynamic shifts. Dizzy Reed's solo piano version of Ziggy Stardust is warmly received, another new song (Better?) sounds loads, erm, better.

The tide has turned, and it's time for Axl's coup de theatre: "I'd like to welcome a very good friend of mine…Mr Izzy Stradlin…" and out trots his former sidekick to roars of approval. There are now as many members of prime-time Guns n' Roses in this band as there are in Velvet Revolver, and the performance of Think About You that follows throws down a gauntlet for all pretenders.

"Can I get a piano out here?" asks Axl and seated, drink in hand, there's only one way he's going now. November Rain is nothing short of a masterpiece, the band firing, finally, on every single cylinder as the main man, in his own words, "beats the hell out of that old love song."

Another "old friend" is welcomed onstage in the shape of ex-Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach, possibly one of the few frontmen who can give Axl a run for his money in the helium-scream department. The pair trade lines through My Michelle, before Stradlin's recalled for a run through Patience and a punked-out, four-guitar version of Nightrain which, to coin a phrase, rolls like a freight train right through the middle of this dusty field.

The encores, bravely, begin with another newie, Madagascar, before Brian Mantia kick-drums the seven-piece into a masterful version of Rocket Queen.

"I don't wanna go home," says Axl, before admitting: "that's different to how I felt an hour ago."

Two more new songs – IRS and Chinese Democracy – are aired, both of them whetting appetites for the new album, before Izzy Stradlin comes out once more for the final two-step, a ramshackle, Stonesy version of Useta Love Her and a thunderous reading of Paradise City which lights up the sky with pyrotechnics and ticker-tape cannons.

Guns n' Roses were once proclaimed The World's Most Dangerous Band. On tonight's evidence that danger is still there, which – while at one stage threatening to derail the whole show - has instead focused Axl and the band into delivering one of the all-time great Donington performances.

Yes, Metallica were unstoppable on Saturday night, but they didn’t face the pressure of a world waiting to see them put a foot wrong. What Axl delivered in the face of that expectation was a two-and-a-half-hour masterclass in the light and shade of rock'n'roll.

The new album, Chinese Democracy, is reportedly ready for release. If it lives up to tonight, then Guns n' Roses will once again be the biggest band in the world.

Tonight's GN'R show in Zürich, Switzerland has been postponed, here's the press release:
Guns N' Babies!

Guns N' Roses have been forced to postpone their show in Zurich at the Hallenstadion this evening the 21st of June, 2006. Their drummer Brain aka Bryan Mantia has had to return to San Francisco earlier than scheduled to be with his pregnant wife. The band have been travelling with understudy drummer Frank Ferrer and he will be ready to step in when the tour continues as scheduled on Saturday with their next show at Belgium's Graspop Festival.

It is expected that Brain will return to the tour in approximately 2 weeks time. The band had a phenomenal show at Bercy in Paris last night which they consider to be the best of the tour to date. During the exuberant performance guitarist Robin Finck pulled his hamstring but will benefit from the extra day of rest and will be ready for Saturday. The Hallenstadion show in Zurich will now take place on the 1st of July and all tickets are valid.

Guns N' Roses apologise to their Swiss fans for any inconvenience and look forward to seeing them in a couple of weeks.

GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose was released from a Swedish jail at approximately 7:00 p.m. (local time) Tuesday (June 27) after paying 50,000 Swedish kronor (approximately $6,800) in fines in connection with an incident early Tuesday when he allegedly bit a security guard in the leg at his Stockholm hotel.
Axl admitted attacking and threatening the guard, as well as causing damage to the Berns Hotel where the alleged scuffle took place, according to prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad

Guns N' Roses W. Axl Rose was released this evening after having been arrested at 8 a.m. this morning in the lobby of his hotel in Stockholm. The arrest followed an altercation with a hotel security guard. Guns N' Roses had just played a triumphant show to a sellout audience of 15,000 at the Globen Arena and had enjoyed the city's hospitality until the morning hours when the incident occurred.

Axl Rose commented, "We had a great gig in Stockholm and I am not going to let this incident spoil that. My assistant Beta and I were talking in the lobby of the hotel when security started to give us a hard time. My only concern was to make sure she was ok."

Axl Rose is now in Oslo, Norway and the Swedish authorities are no longer pursuing this matter

GUNS N' ROSES manager Merck Mercuriadis released this statement following the band's sold out show in Oslo, Norway last night (June 2 — their first since frontman Axl Rose was released from jail in Stockholm on Tuesday:

"We are very unhappy about Tuesday's events in Stockholm. To put this in context, we are in the middle of a tour — with sold-out shows last night in Oslo, tomorrow in Copenhagen, and Saturday in Zurich rounding out this week alone — and continuing until the beginning of August.

"The Swedish authorities were very aware of this, yet continually threatened us over a 12-hour period with between 5 days and 3 weeks incarceration without bail if Axl did not 'cooperate.' They were fully aware that there were millions of dollars at stake, not to mention the hopes of tens of thousands of fans who had paid for tickets to see GUNS N' ROSES.

"The point is, the police report should not be taken at face value, and if one were to be explicit, this experience is tantamount to being held for ransom. If the context were any different, Axl would probably have preferred to spend the time in jail in order to ensure that all the facts were a matter of public record.

"In addition to this, we are also not happy at the treatment he received. He was arrested after being accosted by a security guard in his hotel, following which he was physically mistreated by the arresting officer in the process of which a valuable bracelet went missing not to be returned. While in custody, he was held down by 5 police officers while a doctor tried to take blood to administer a drug test 3 different times. This illustrates not only the level of incompetence, but malice involved. The results of the test were negative, but the exercise was a clear example of an authoritarian approach trying to flex its muscles. This is the same draconian approach that assumes the security guard in question is telling the truth just because he has a badge.

"Here you have a situation where authorities are skewing information their way, with the media all too ready to run with the biased reports. I did not receive a single phone call Tuesday to verify or comment on any of the reported events. There is a long history of claims by law enforcement, media and others against Axl that have not held up against scrutiny, legal or otherwise. He has had countless baseless lawsuits brought by numerous attorneys and nothing of any merit has ever held up.

"This is not a criticism of the people of Stockholm. The 15,000 people at the show Monday night were amazing, and everyone we met before and after were terrific, until the encounter with the over exuberant security guard. That is where encounters with real people stop and the authorities attempt to take over. There were a number of people involved who treated Axl well, while the conduct of some was questionable and others still deplorable. Regardless, GUNS N' ROSES will return to Sweden where they will play once again for the people, not the authorities.

"Love him or hate him, don't get it twisted."

He even looked pretty crazy back in the 80's. I watched a few live videos last night that I have and he's going overboard on that hip swaying thing, I'm suprised he didn't snap his ankles.

Guns N' Roses news site GunsNRoses.us has posted the following message from GNR guitarist Richard Fortus:

"The [European] shows have been going well. Axl's [Rose] voice is better than ever. Everyone is looking forward to the record finally being released. We are all very excited.

"Thanks to you and to all of the fans that haven't given up on us! This is the year!"

As previously reported, Guns N' Roses looks likely to return for more U.S. shows this autumn, possibly starting in September, according to a press release. Following the band's recent four-night stand in New York City, their first live shows since late 2002, Rose said, "We've just finished our four shows in New York and had an amazing time. New York has always been special and it feels great to be doing this again particularly in front of so many friends. I am very excited about Europe and getting back over here in September."

The group, which features no original members from its classic lineup other than Axl, began a run of European festival shows on May 25.

Rose has been saying that the band's long-delayed new album, "Chinese Democracy", will be out later this year.

I'm hedging my bets for a November/December release. The big rumour was for September, but I don't think there's enough time to do the neccessary promotion now. I'm probably being Naive again though to be honest, next year might be more realistic.

I have now decided to hand in my notice and quit work ending on the day before I go see GNR, making it all the more sweet. Which is 18 days, without trying to rub it in too much!

If it's going to be this year, a Christmas period release would be my bet, since more people are likely to be buying albums around then.

Don't expect Civil War, they havn't played that all tour, except Dizzy has included little bits from it in his piano solos. But they will definitely play Brownstone and Nightrain, and most likely Patience too.

Awesome, Newcastle is my roots, my family originates from there :D Never been to the Newcastle Arena though, but I'm sure it's better than Wembley Arena, which is awful.

Kyle
07-18-2006, 11:44 AM
To fill you in a bit, here is the typical setlist they are playing, this one was in Prague;

Welcome to The Jungle
It's So Easy
Brownstone
Live and let die
Better (new song)
Robin Finck guitar Solo
The Blues (new song)
You Could Be Mine
Bumblefoot's Solo (With don't Cry instrumental)
Chinese Democracy (new song)
Beatiful (Christina Aguilera cover instrumental with Robin and Richard)
Sweet Child O' Mine
Out Ta Get Me
November Rain
Knockin On Heaven's Door
My Michelle (w/ Sebastien Bach)
Think About You (w/ Izzy) - This won't be here if Izzy isn't there.
Patience (w/ Izzy)
Nightrain (w/ Izzy)
----------------------
I.R.S
Robin's Solo
Paradise City

That's a kind of generic setlist which has been played throughout the tour. They might throw in new songs There Was A Time and Madagascar aswell, and maybe remove Patience and one of the new songs. They've also played Used To Love Her sometimes when Izzy has turned up.

Kyle
07-19-2006, 01:16 PM
Eww, I always thought that cover was pretty lame. A couple of cool solo's from Slash, but otherwise really quite annoying.

Edit: I've been hearing all is not well in the GNR camp. Apparantly there is serious friction between ron and the other band members, people on the GNR boards were saying that he was really drunk at the sheffield show. And I have heard that Axl walked off stage during Nightrain tonight, and although came back on to finish the song, didn't do an encore or Paradise city.

Lord Abortion
07-20-2006, 04:14 AM
Yep, this is true, they were an hour and a bastard half late coming onstage, and got booed for alot of the time.
Apparently the Nighttrain walkoff was co-ordinated, as Josh spoke to a security guy and they knew it was going to happen.

Okay...Well apart from the various problems, the show was pretty great, The AFD stuff was excellent, Patience and November rain, also were personal highlights.
Unfortunately, the whole thing was offset by the obvious problems these guys are having, they were very late, and there was no Paradise city, which I got annoyed about.
November rain was superb though, played by Axl in a pair of Elton John glasses:D so were Brownstone and Nightrain, when they actually played it, Axl said it was "because of some person throwing stuff at the band" that they went off... at which everyone sighed in exasperation and told Axl to grow up.
Axl himself was on top form, and so were the band, but there was no need for the stupid, frequent not very good and boring solos, each guitarist took at least one lengthy solo, while the crowd shuffled their feet (we had been standing for over seven hours by that point.) and In my case went for a drink, and to stick my head under the tap.
When they played songs, they were excellent.
When they didn't, it was boring.

Sebastian Bach was brilliant as the first support, but Bullet for my wankstain were absolutely awful, as was heartily expected, and the horrible twelve year olds in their shirts were annoying.
But at least we got to make Welsh jokes. Someone had a huge inflatable sheep, which says alot that it was probably the highlight of the night.

All in all, brilliant in parts, frustrating and boring in others and offset by personal problems...sounds like a microcosm of Guns' career, right?

Kyle
07-20-2006, 04:43 AM
I wish they would cut down the solo's, it's so uneccesary. Especially when they could use the time spent soloing to throw in a couple more tracks from Use Your Illusions or something. Don't Damn Me and Civil War would go down much better with audiences, than the time spent on solo's. They look great from all the internet clips of their shows, but I don't have to endure the horrible gaps in-between songs online.

Did Izzy show up again?

Lord Abortion
07-20-2006, 04:47 AM
Yeah, he did.

Came on and played a couple of songs, which was nice. Some thing where Axl used Maracas or somesuch and You could be mine, which was excellent.
He was wearing a shirt and stuff, which was odd...looked a little like that guy out of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Speaking of which, Bumblefoot looks Like Johnny Depp.

Dave de Sylvia
07-20-2006, 04:51 AM
Izzy :(

I wouldn't lend much weight to the Ron rumours, most people who claim to have inside knowledge of GNR are full of it. The solos are necessary to give Axl a chance to breathe, plus I think they're kind of cool, especially Ron's Don't Cry.

Glad you had fun, Ollie, but I hate you for seeing Izzy. Die.

Edit: you saw Sebastian's band too? **** you!

Lord Abortion

Hmm so they weren't having technical problems at all?
What was with Ron Thal aswell? He looked miserable the whole time and didn't come on at the end to take a bow with the rest of the band.

Bfmv were absolutely terrible, they had like a minute long pause between each song with just silence or some shuffling around yet all the emo's were still swaying, cheering and screaming that they loved them, and the girls weren't much better either.

No one booed GnR at the show I went to and they played Paradise City. Everyone who had seats (me) stood for the whole thing too which I've never seen before. People in seats usually just sit quietly.

Lord Abortion

Mars Volta

Yeah they were late in Sheffield as well.
Sebastian Bach was an hour late, which made BFMV an hour late and then Axl's known for turning up late and going on stage even later so that was another half an hour.
They came on at 10 and it was supposed to be 8:30.

Why did they keep going off stage if there were no technical problems?

Guns N' Roses want the people of Newcastle to know that the crowd at their sold out show Wednesday night was terrific. The band played a sweaty two hour show on the hottest night in a lifetime bolstered by the audience's incredible support. Unfortunately, the band was not able to give the crowd the encore they deserved due to the behaviour of a couple of cowards in the audience.

Guns N' Roses keyboard player Dizzy Reed explained "Newcastle was one of the best gigs of the entire tour. I had puddles of sweat underneath my keyboards and loved every second of it except when some idiots decided to throw things at the stage. When Axl got hit the first time, the audience pointed out who threw the object and security tossed him out so we came back. Then Axl got hit in the mouth with another object, so thanks to the behavior of two morons who obviously don't know how to behave at a rock concert, the show ended with no encores. I've been in this band for sixteen years and stupid **** like throwing stuff at the stage is something we won't tolerate. We're not targets, we're musicians."

Guitarist Robin Finck stated, "We had a great time Wednesday night and Axl sang his *** off but you do not wait around to get hit in the mouth for a third time."

Guns N' Roses vocalist Axl Rose had this to say, "Getting hit wasn't a big deal. We stopped the song and gave a warning. We came back and started the song over and completed it. We then said goodnight. The house lights went down and I got hit a second time, in the mouth, by a solid object thrown by someone in the audience. After having warned the crowd that we would leave, and having played more than two hours, we left the stage and called it a night with the full support of everyone in the band, our guests and Management. Izzy was the first to immediately support the decision verbally to me personally before I had physically left the stage area. Tommy and Frank came to my dressing room to say how much they appreciated the decision to not continue under those conditions, and express their support for not tolerating anyone throwing items at the stage with a negative intent. This has been GNR's policy since playing Donnington in 1988. We thank everyone for coming, we hope everyone got home safely and we hope to play Newcastle again - hopefully without those looking for enjoyment at others expense. Cheers!"

Guns N' Roses look forward to continuing their sold out UK tour in Glasgow tonight.

This was the best sentence. It's like all the "ly" words in the world condensed into one sentence.

Which one?

I have them both, but I always preferred number 2 more. I don't know why though, because I haven't seen them for ages and I can't remember the setlists exactly. Slash playing the Godfather theme was always awesome though.

/shudders after thinking about Axl's choice of pants on said DVD's

oh man, the pants! THE PANTS!

I just looked at the setlists (tracklists) I have no idea why I preferred UYI 2. UYI 1 looks just as good, if not better, on paper. I suppose I always disliked the number of time Axl changed costume during Civil War though, so I'm going to blame my preferences on that.

Are his pants black on UYI 1? The white ones on UYI 2 are way worse. :upset:

Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach sang lead vocals for the last two songs ("Night Train" and "Paradise City") of Guns N' Roses' set at the Wembley Arena in London, England on Sunday (July 30) after singer Axl Rose was taken ill and was unable to finish the show. The band performed an abbreviated set which reportedly featured no new songs, a departure from the rest of the tour where several "Chinese Democracy" numbers were regularly aired at every performance.

In other news, Guns N' Roses played a special acoustic gig late Saturday/early Sunday at a small London club called Cuckoo, featuring a crowd made up in part of audience members from Guns N' Roses first Wembley Arena performance on Saturday (July 29) who had their names read out by Axl during the show. The acoustic gig reportedly started at 4:00 a.m. and finished at about 5:30 a.m.

The July 30 Wembley concert was the final show of Guns N' Roses' lengthy European tour, which kicked off May 25 in Madrid, Spain.

Guns N' Roses will headline KROQ's Inland Invasion 2006 on September 23 at the Hyundai Pavillion at Glen Helen in Devore, California. Additional U.S. dates are expected in the fall
