I'm a major fan of old GNR, and listening to Slash solo was the reason I first started playing guitar, but new Guns N' Roses sickens me. I've never heard any their songs, and I never intend to. Serously, Axl Rose calling his band Guns N' Roses is ****ing heresy. Velvet Revolver is pretty good, but not as good as old Guns. Haven't had the chance to listen to any Snakepit. This may have been mentioned before, but did anyone else hear abotu Slash touring in a band called "Slash's Blues Ball" or something like that? I like blues too.
Edit: And to the person who said Rocket Queen was good live, I have the UYI Tour DVD's and I was very unimpressed when Axl started rappigng halfway through the song.

Snakepit is awesome, I love them. It's some of Slash's best work imo, Guns N' Roses are one of my favourite bands too but it's pretty ignorant to say that new Gn'R suck when you have not heard anything from them.
Slash's Bluesball was basically formed to keep him occupied during the 'downfall' of Gn'R. There was no original material it was all covers of blues songs. I saw Slash say in an interview that they were originally called "Slash's Blue Balls" but decided that was too stupid and not an appropriate name for touring.

Is this the wierdest picture of Guns N' Roses ever or what?
I think that this is the current line up:
* W. Axl Rose - vocals (1985-present)
* Dizzy Reed - keyboards (1990-present)
* Robin Finck - guitars (1996-present)
* Tommy Stinson - bass (1998-present)
* Brian Mantia - drums (2000-present)
* Richard Fortus - guitar (2002-present)
And you know, i wouldn't put it past Axl, heh. But y'all are probably right, it's most likely coincidence.

Why would you need 3 guitarists and a keyboardist? Seriously. I think 3 guitars is pushing it by itself.
Edit: Wait. That's 2 keyboards. Jesus

Edit: Wait. That's 2 keyboards. JesusApparently the keyboard parts are 'so complex' that 2 keyboards are required, at least that's what what Axl said. Buckethead was just a live guitarist and pretty much all he does is solo's through the entire song. His departure was neither good or bad considering he was only used on the tour..
EDIT: I don't think the guy on the right is playing a keyboard, I think it's a midi controller for synths and stuff.

I thoguht earlier i nthe thread someoen said that the guitar parts actually needed 3 guitars.I can't see why, I have some bootlegs of there most recent tour and Rock In Rio and they played all covers except for Madagascar, Chinese Democracy and The Blues.
Slash and Izzy managed to play Gn'R songs with 2 guitarists and the new songs aren't amazing in terms of the technical ability required to play them.

There is no third guitarist anymore.
EDIT: IMO they never needed a third guitarist all they needed / wanted was a new gimmick, Buckethead's bucket kinda replaced Slash's top hat.

Thank you very much. I think this thread (other then the Glam Rock/Hair Metal thread) is the only real safe haven to discuss Guns N' Roses around here. Shame their isn't much to discuss though due to all the secrecy and moving around behind-the-scenes with Chinese Democracy.
I think except the die hard fans everyone has gotten really pissed off with G'n'R. But nobody really flames in FA threads because people put so much effort into them, I remember when you first did this it's a really good read.

Well, I doubt most people care much about GnR anymore (at least, not enough to bother flaming them anymore other then die hard fans that got tired of waiting). I've ceased caring about all that petty stuff because in the end, it's just about the music. If GnR never release another album, so what? I've still got the classics to listen to from time to time to remind me why they're my favourite band. However, I would be a little pissed that Axl dirtied the GnR name with all this Chinese Democracy mess.
Yeah, In a perfect world I think after the original line up split, Axl should have formed a new band under a new name, that way we could just enjoy the music without having to think about how it's not G'n'R.
I think if Chinese Democracy ever does come out it will be better than Contraband, because I just don't really like VR lyrics at all. That being said I am expecting better things from VR's follow up though.

Heh, well guys it doesn't bother me that Axl is using the GnR name either, it bothers me that he uses it and then drags it through the mud by not releasing anything after a ridiculous amount of time. For sure if CD comes out it'll blow Contraband out of the water (but then again, that's not exactly a hard thing to do) and I hope for VR's sake they come out with a much better follow up album.
Anyway, on a more positive note (according to recent rumours) Axl has apparently lost the braids. Sad that Axl changing his look is all I really have to say about the band right now other then the other members of the band have been given an order of silence about GnR (and thus have stop answering fan questions).

Some Gn'R News:
Shannon Hoon
On October 21st 1995, Blind Melon singer Shannon Hoon was found dead, due to a heroin overdose. Shannon provided background vocals on a few Gn'R tracks, including Live And Let Die, November Rain and The Garden and shared lead vocals on You Ain't The First and, most notably, Don't Cry. Blind Melon released just two albums, 1992's Blind Melon and Soup, released in 1995, shortly before Shannon's death. A posthumous album culled from outtakes and demos, entitled Nico (after Shannon's daughter), was released the following year.
It's sad to think what he could have achieved had he not thrown his life away. :(

Patience Goes Country!
Jasy Andrews, Nashville-based singer/songwriter, has covered "Patience" on her Little Girl album. The following is from an album review where her cover version is mentioned:
---
The three covers are interesting. "Private Dancer" is solid next to Tina Turner's original recording, though different in tone, but the best of the three is the cover of the Guns n' Roses song "Patience." It's a song familiar to many, and hearing this throaty rendition gives it a whole new feel.

It depends really on what you're expecting from Axl. If you're expecting more progressive/experimental kind of stuff CD probably won't disappoint (assuming it ever gets released) whereas if you're expecting Appetite For Destruction: The Sequel there's a 100% chance of being disappointed. Although to be honest, I don't think it's going to be nearly as industrial as people think (I think the industrial direction was just a short phase Axl had).
Oh well, can't judge till we see it.

I wish people would stop covering Guns N' Roses songs. So far every GnR cover I've heard blew chunks.
Sheryl Crow's SCOM = Major sucking.
Kelly Clarkson's SCOM = More major sucking.
Anyway, as far as videos go I think their worst were probably Estranged (although I love the song) and Since I Don't Have You. Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, It's So Easy, Sweet Child O' Mine, Don't Cry, and November Rain are probably their best videos too. Although in the long run I don't think GnR will be remembered much for making killer videos as they will for making killer music so it doesn't really matter much to me that they made a few bad videos (everybody does).
Regardless, November Rain video was great if only for Stephanie Seymour's wedding dress (which I drooled over the first time I saw the video), Axl's hilarious wardrobe (those jackets were hella funny), and Slash soloing outside of a church.

At Last, Guns N Roses Confirm New Album
Geffen records have announced a release date of December 5th for the new Guns N Roses album, the bad news is - it’s not the long awaited Chinese Democracy but Volume 2 of their greatest hits.
Geffen records had immense success with Volume 1 last year despite protests from Axl Rose about its release. An announcement about the official track list is expected soon.
www.albumvote.co.uk/news/news.php?id=821
2. Sanctuary was asked by Splat about this GH Vol. 2 and they would not comment:
According to Kjell Petter Askersrud, head of Universal in Norway, the new GN'R Greatest Hits album will be released in March 2006.
As mentioned earlier, Polydor UK ruled out a December release date after California based music site, Music Tap, rumoured that a GN'R Greatest Hits album was being planned for release on December 6th, 2005.
Sanctuary are refusing to comment on the situation, bizarre in itself considering their openness over the new unofficial GN'R DVD release, and some fans are starting to smell a possible cover up related to the Guns forthcoming new album, Chinese Democracy.

As far as I'm concerned about this Greatest Hits Volume 2 bs, there are several possibilities.
1. Since there aren't enough "hits" to constitute 2 albums, it might be a best of (possibly with a new unreleased track thrown in).
2. This is all a big mistake and is completely false.
3. It's Chinese Democracy in disguise.
It occurs to me that this could be CD in disguise (advertising it as something else so as to prevent the album from leaking onto the net). I'm hoping that it's either option 2 or 3 as another "greatest hits" or a "best of" collection is completely redundant and is an obvious cash grab by Geffen to make back some more money they lost on investing in CD.
What do you guys think?
As a side note, Guns N' Roses have done a cover up like this before when the UYI's were announced as Greatest Hits packages.

Anyway, I haven't heard her cover of SCOM. I like her voice though, but I don't have very high hopes :-\

UYI was a necessary evolution and progression for the band. Doing another Appetite would have just stunted the band's growth. One of the things I admired about Guns N' Roses is that need to keep evolving and keep changing rather then just repeating yourself over and over again. It was innovative and at times the albums easily beat AFD. Excluding a few bad tracks on both albums, UYI I and II probably would have gotten a lot less crap from the critics and the fans.

I'd pretty much agree with that. That's why it annoys me that people have a go at Axl for ruining the band. If he wasn't in the band Slashd have made another straight up hard rock album which could have A)made AFD less special or B) completely failed and too much of the same thing might have made AFD boring to listen to. The constant progression of the band is what made them so interesting to watch.

I wouldn't say the UYIs easily beat AFD or anything close. I think everyone's performances bar Axl's dropped. Sometimes I listen to AFD and Lies and wonder what went wrong, other times I recognise it was a huge step.

Although the track list has yet to be announced, Geffen has set a Dec. 20 release date for the double-disc set "Welcome to the Jungle -- The Very Best of Guns N' Roses." It will be the second such GNR package since the spring of 2004 and follows "Greatest Hits," which has sold 2.5 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Guns N' Roses, which now features lone original member Axl Rose, has been at work for years on a new studio album, "Chinese Democracy." It is unknown when the album will see the light of day.

Pretty ignorant to give Slash all the credit there, pal. Not saying Axl made the band what it was either because that would also be ignorant. Axl, Slash, and Izzy made Guns what it was, everybody else was replaceable (albeit Duff did make some important contributions).

The record company (Geffen) is trying to recoop money they plunged into Chinese Democracy (about 13 million or so).

i foudn this interesting article.
Many people have noticed that Amazon.com is now listing "Chinese Democracy" among the GN'R albums:
Audio CD (December 31, 2025)
Label: (label name not provided)
ASIN: B000CCBC6W
Amazon had this to say when asked about the release:
Our latest information indicates that "Chinese Democracy" has not yet been released and the expected release date is not known. Our suppliers have supplied the 2025 release date simply as a stand-in until they have more definite information.
As soon as an actual release date has been determined for this item, we will add that information to our web site.
---
You can see the listing here. Sometimes it might say "Welcome To The Jungle" as the album title. This might be an older listing. Try clearing your browser's cache if that happens.
At this moment it's not known why Amazon is listing the album since the album's actual release date is still unknown

news update. a gnr tribute album is being relased it is all instrumental involing the cello, vilons. here is the article
"Hated N’ Worshipped. Pompous N’ Talented. Wild N’ Reclusive. Confrontational N’ Paranoid. Guns N’ Roses. A band fueled and torn by extremes, Guns N’ Roses started as a gang of street toughs and became the biggest band in the world. Their debut album, Appetite for Destruction, is a raw nerve of emotion and performance. Despite its slow rise to the top of the charts, Appetite proved to be an instant classic. The subsequent Use Your Illusion albums found GNR successfully exploring the peaks of rock grandeur and valleys of base excess.
At the height of their creative powers, Guns N’ Roses began to incorporate lush and complex textures into their songs. The String Quartet Tribute to Guns N’ Roses continues to explore the epic soundscapes first heard on such songs as “November Rain” and “Don’t Cry.” Emotive cellos and violins take the emotional essence of each song to transcendent levels of poignancy. Fans of Guns N’ Roses will cherish this unique collection of fantastic tracks. " www.vitaminrecords.com/web/page.asp?pgs=product&catid=20&id=965

From sputnikmusic.com ;)
Speaking to Philadelphia's WMMR Radio on Friday, ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist and former Velvet Revolver picker Slash (né Saul Hudson) announced he can't wait to hear his former bandmates' new album in March, adding that he's been told the album is finished and is confident of its release.
The legendary guitarist also took the opportunity to clear up some misconceptions regarding his relationship with Axl Rose since leaving the band nine years ago. Slash played down talk of a "feud" as "media hype" and said there is no bad blood between them, explaining they hadn't talked face to face since the group's split.
Velvet Revolver play two dates in New Jersey to bring in the new year, beginning tonight in Atlantic City.

It was cancelled, apparently, which is kind of the only hint that the Chinese Democracy thing might happen. Slash was working on a tracklist for the greatest hits, alledgedly, so if that was cancelled he must have been given a good reason...

The Associated Press reported Thursday night (Jan. 12) that Axl Rose has sued a Beverly Hills auto dealership, claiming that it failed to deliver two luxury cars after receiving $20,000 in deposits and also failed to give Axl any money after selling his Ferrari.
Rose contends in the suit, which was filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, that Beverly Hills Classic Cars took his deposits but violated oral agreements to get him a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo and a 2005 Porsche GT3.
The suit also contends the dealer sold his consigned 1999 Ferrari Marinello but never paid him a promised $135,000 of the proceeds.

The Spaghetti Incident? is OK; I have to be in the right mood to like it. Last night I wasn't, and it sucked. Lies is great, though, as a collection of tracks thrown together in a semi-hurry.
OK, this doesn't relate to Gn'R too much, except that they're one of the best modern **** bands and I was introduced to them through the GnR boards, but Buckcherry's new album is absolutely sensational.

Sometimes I agree, but both the Illusions have too much crap on them to elevate above AFD.
For guitar songs: Everything on Lies is pretty straightforward. Otherwise, You Ain't The First, It's So Easy, Think About You. Aside from the leads, most of GnR's stuff is very straightforward, more punk than metal.

From sputnikmusic.com (http://www.sputnikmusic.com/news.php?newsid=58&genreid=)
In an online interview with fansite BeenAFix, Izzy Stradlin talked about a possible series of releases over 2006 and 2007, including new studio material and a rarities collection, including sessions with ex-Guns N' Roses bandmates Slash and Duff.
In a brief interview comprising of ten user-submitted questions, Stradlin confirmed the band has recorded the follow up to 2002's Japanese release 'On Down The Road,' his fifth studio release. A sixth album, 'Like A Dog,' was recorded and pressed in 2003 but failed to secure a label release- the album is currently for sale directly from the artist, demand fueled by an online petition early in 2005.
Stradlin said the as-yet-untitled album "should be ready soon," pronouncing they were "still workin on it." The veteran guitarist was also asked about a possible collaboration with Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, to which he replied "maybe I should." The guitarist has previously played live with the Rolling Stones at various points in the late 80s, while Stones guitarist Ron Wood contributing a songwriting credit and guest performance on Stradlin's debut album, 'Izzy Stradlin & The Juju Hounds.'
When asked about a possible demos & rarities release, Stradlin replied that he was shopping ideas around, and touted an 06/07 release of "some cool stuff." These rarities may or may not include material recorded in sessions with Velvet Revolver members Slash, Duff and Matt Sorum before that band came together.
awesome, I have always wondered what that session with VR would have sounded like.

They are really bad but it's definately Axl singing so yeah... Anyone heard of them? I doubt they are for CD.

Here's a little update from Kevin Lawrence on the Rapidfire demos, featuring Axl, that were originally planned for release in 2005:
The tracks are still being mixed in Los Angeles and the CD covers are being designed.
Apparently Axl wants to stop the release.
According to Kevin, Axl's voice sounds a bit "more Rob Halford" compared to his voice Appetite For Destruction.

A little Matt Sorum mention in this article about The Cult:
---
Duffy, meanwhile, has stayed busy with a number of projects, including Circus Diablo, a group he co-founded with Morrison and guitarist Ricky Warwick. The trio has recruited Sorum--whose main gig now is manning the kit for Velvet Revolver--to play drums on a 6-track EP due out this summer, according to the band's website.
No word yet on who will handle the drums and bass on The Cult's upcoming trek.
