View Full Version : I blocked my first ever extra point on Madden 05

I have a franchise, and I'm using the Falcons
It was amazing, I was up 10-3 with 1:30 left in the game, and the Chiefs just drove down on me, torched my defense and with like 4 seconds left, they scored a touchdown so it was 10-9.
I was getting ready for OT, and I do what I normally do, take the dude way on the left end (Deangelo Hall, 98 speed) and run across the middle, This time I jumped the snap count perfect and dove right in front of the ball and blocked it. I was so happy! This wason All-Madden to.
To give this thread a point, talk about amazing things you did on Madden 05', and I have a question about general football. What's the difference between a "west coast offense" and a normal offense?

On a basic level, a West Coast offense runs lots of short, high-completion-percentage pass plays. Helps to have a quaterback who can scramble and a running back who is a good receiver. They often try and control the clock a lot. 'Normal' offense throws downfield a lot more and usually have pocket-passers. I'm sure there's more but I'm no expert, that's pretty much the extent of my knowledge.

I blocked extra points like a mofo on '04. It's easier to just blitz the LB or Safety down the middle. My playstation broke a few days after I got '05, so I've barely played that at all.

It's impossible to go through the middle. For me anyway..!

I blocked my first PAT like two days ago, with the Falcons even.

I just blocked another PAT today with my Dolphins.
Of course, my Dolphins have virtually nobody on the real roster anymore, thanks to my wheeling and dealing and cutting of people who suck.

I can't block a FG or a PAT, but I've blocked like ten punts for some reason.

Funny, cause I can't seem to block a punt.
I can rough the kicker pretty well, but I have never blocked a punt.

Roughing the kicker > Blocking kicks
I've never blocked a kick on Madden, but I've blocked a few FG/PAT's on Gameday. I usually just go straight up the middle with a a big fatty defensive tackle and knock someone over and jump.

Not when roughing the kicker gives the other team a first down.

Odd.
Actually, it isn't. I may not be kidding when I say I'm probably the only person on the planet who has blocked more than one punt in Madden.

In NCAA 2003, I would block 1 out of 3 PATs
until my bro found out you can hold the kick button and release when you want to kick

It's not impossible. At least on '04 it wasn't.
I averaged about 3 a season.
I know I got one on '05 before it broke.
Odd.

No way, man. It was easy on '04. I got like 10 a season.
It was harder in '05, I think I only got 3 or 4.

I might want to mention I have blocked PAT's in ESPN 2k5, not Madden
i blocked a PAT in madden with the titans against my friend, it was pure luck, on ESPN 2k5 i have blocked a billion of punts and field goals becuase. Because I have officially mastered that game. franchise mode on ESPN was easy to master, simulate a few seasons start over get the guys that get good (brian westbrook, eli manning, carson palmer, fitzgerald) trust me they always get good even if they never play a down, unlike madden where they can go bad really quick. anyways on espn everything is easy, if you lose on any level of espn you suck at it. and on madden 05 the gameplay is crap you can beat anyone as long as you have a qb and recievers, i can just throw it up in the air and someone catches it.
back to the point.
espn is easier to block punts/field goals/pat's with

On Madden 05? wtf
You can't throw it up in the air in Madden 05 and catch all the time. Hell, you probably wouldn't catch it all just throwing it up. It's hard to catch a deep ball on All Pro and All Madden, you have to have a solid running game, which is hard too. Once you get a good running game, they bring 9 guys in the box, you do a PA, lead your receiver and hopefully he gets it.
You can't beat anyone on Madden, have you ever played on All-Madden, the sliders heavily favoring them? It's pretty damn hard.
I can block punts really easily on 05, just take your DB and run him down the side.

You must be playing on Pro. On the higher levels, passing is brutally unforgiving.

I love playing on All-Madden, because for me, I can kill a team like the Browns, but like the Patriots can totally own me. That's why I like it. You have to be skilled at it.
My favorite thing to do is get a good solid running game down, then have the package to stack strong the slots with your best recievers, do a PA and throw a deep ball to them
It works 45% of the time though.

When you're playing in 2 player and do a PA, it's hard to get it off without being sacked. A lot of the times I don't even have a chance to get the pass off.

ESPN 2K5 is a good game, the reason I play Madden more is because it's realistic. In ESPN you can break like 6 tackles in one play and in Madden you're lucky to get by 2. The passing in Madden is hard and in ESPN you can find easy ways around it, like if you send your slot or main recievers to do a zig zag, or simple out route, they catch 90% of the time. You do this in Madden, the AI will react, play cover 2, and it gets pic'd off.

I find passing a lot easier in Madden, but that's probably because I play it more. In Madden, the pass will most of the time go right where it's supposed to. The times the i've played 2k5, passes are a lot of the times overthrown or thrown short.

Cause I'm doing my 3rd season on All Pro and it's not nearly as easy as you make it out to be.

well what i hate is when im playing a great team i lose 50-0 and when i play a bad team i win 50-0 but what i did was lower the CPU's attributes a little bit to make the game more exciting

Though this has nothing to do with madden....the best defensive play for NCAA college football (94 or 95) is te punt block. Every play, the defense would break the line and dive on the quarterback for -12 yards. Truly amazing.

I played that game twice at my friends house, so I'm a total n00b at it. And in the second game, I blocked one of his field goals. Might have been lucky, but it didn't seem that hard. I could probably do it again if I actually played it.

Nah, Tim Dwight is real fast on the game and he's white.
Does anyone else have trouble stopping the pass? I'm always like 29th-32nd against the pass and like 1st-3rd against the run. I always feel corners don't play up to their potential or safeties never come over and help you out.
I usually go 15-1 or 16-0 and I play on All-Pro...usually give up a lot of yards on D through the air, but I can own teams with a good O. Though, I like having a well balanced attack, with a strong passing and running game.
