that really depends on alot of things....battlestar scratchulactica (sp?) is a really good one to play with a drummer jamming. science riffs like a certain shade of green or vitamin are really good for getting pumped up, but need a guitar to sound good. and 11 am is a good one too

Can you even buy it anywhere or have they discontinued it....if i could get my hands on a copy i would be extremely chuffed.

OHH YEH, cause i just hear about how talented they are in every forum and
music magazine.

they are a talented band no doubt about it. however Brendon Boyd cannot write to save his life. i'll give it to him though, hes an awesome singer and artist.

"i dont see how people can word all theses things together, i'd kill to do it well. whenever im frustrated i just sing it out or rather sketch still life but i find it near impossible to put all my emotions in word" - Bredon Boyd.

Cheers,

Feign.

Are you serious?

Brandon Boyd is an awesome writer. Granted alot of the earlier stuff was 100% artificial stimulants compositions, but as they progressed so did Brandon. You have to remember they were but a bunch of teenages when they wrote Fungus Amongus and SCIENCE.

I actually like the lyrics to 'just a phase'. Especially the 'women's intuition' line. But really, 4 lines of writing doesn't exactly prove anything about his writing.

Does anybody have "white fluffy clouds? It looks cool. It has some of his poems that weren't made into songs and some paintings and things. I think this is "I Stay" from the book.

I live under a tree.
I balance an apple on my head.
A man with a rusty revolver and a twitching trigger finger stands at spitting distance.
The man is high on gin, cigars and power.
There are few like him.
I was born with the apple on my head.
The gun was a gift to him.
He nods off occasionally:
stumbling, twitching and squeezing off random bullets that graze all but the apple in the process.
I've taken his bullets before:
Hence fear & pain, but never finality.
I am not tied to this tree.
If I turn my head enough the apple falls.
My assailant isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
I would barely be missed.
I could leave at any time.
Yet I stay.

I think the books sold out a while ago but they just started reselling them.

I have found that Incubus have obviously become more mellow over the years but it still sounds good. I only have three albums and i have noticed the difference in each of them. But just because they are becoming more mellow doesnt mean they don't still kick ***. They have a awesome drummer, guitarist, dj, singer and their new bass guitarist doesnt sound bad too. Overall. INCUBUS RULE!

Phaser/Flanger, there's no telling with Mike. His rig includes 2 Boss PH-2 Phasers, an MXR Phase 90, and a Boss BF-2 Flanger; so it could be any one of those. Just got this from the Incubus newsletter:

SURF'S UP FOR INCUBUS!
Brandon and Mike's team won last Sunday's surfrider Celebrity surf jam in Huntington Beach, and Brandon was crowned MVP of the event. This week, Incubus' passion for surfing and music collide with the premiere of the new surfing documentary, Flow. Flow is a feature length documentary covering the life and history of legendary surfboard maker, Al Merrick and the Channel Islands Surf Team. For the film, Mike wrote the majority of the score while Brandon narrates the film. A number of Incubus songs pepper the flm as well. The band will attend the premiere tonight, September 19th, at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, CA.

I highly doubt that will happen. First of all, Dirk Lance is gone, so the funk bass is gone. Second, they have seemed to mature alot musically. It still has an awesome groove, but in case you haven't noticed, they have become more musically advenced from album to album. I am expecting this album to be jazzy and hard rock. I'm imagining there will be more songs like "Make a Move" on it.

That was just a Delay actually. I don't know what exactly the little box with knobs is. It altars the signal of his guitar somehow and I think it's similar to Kilmore light sensor thing that does the same thing when you move your hand in front of it.

But yeah on the pistola solo he puts on a delay and changes the speed to make it sound like that.

It's this:

B -7b-
G -9b-

He holds the bend while changing the delay settings.

He used to play PRS guitars (Custom 22's and 24's, Hollowbody II's I believe, a Custom McCarty Hollowbody which was reportedly his favorite guitar ever at one point) and Mesa Boogie amps (2 Tremoverbs or Rectoverbs if I remember correctly) but he has switched to Fender (Authentic '65 Jazzmaster and an assortment '62 American Reissue Jazzmasters. He also has numerous Strats and Teles of which I do not know the model) and a Vox + Marshall combo (Vox AC30 212, I'm not sure about the Vox).

It's a Marshall Plexi Lead 100 with two 212 cabinets.

The AC30 is his clean amp. The tone driver pedal in front of it is to give it a bit of a high/mid boost.

The Plexi Lead is his distortion amp. Mike's guitar tech modified it to have more gain than it normally would. It kinda sounds like **** in my opinion, especially live.

Er. No.

Why? Crow is full of short, simple solos (except for SSLW and Priceless), power chords, etc... Iīve never seen a single Tab for the "Trouble in The 421" solo, and the "Deep Inside" (from SCIENCE) solo is the bitchest thing ever played by Mike, I think even he himself doesnīt know how to play it anymore... Iīm not saying "oh, their funkier sound was much better", but it was just much more technical and guitar centered. I donīt think the next album will be a lot better than Crow in terms of guitar playing, Mike holds his skills too much, itīs a shame :upset: , heīs one of my favorite guitarists.

A lot of that stuff was improvised, especially when performed live. They can't play Azwethinkweiz anymore because they forgot it (Brandon said after attempting to finish it something along the lines of, "Maybe someday someone will teach it to is all the way through and we can say we played Azwethnkweiz") if anything is technical it's the Crow stuff.

And I agree with you about him holding his skill, sometimes I wish he would just senselessly show off, but I don't think he's all about the shredding you know? I love his solos like the ones in Monuments and Melodies, Neither of Us Can See, and Southern Girl.

That solo does sound very impressive, but in reality it's one of the easier things he's played. And yes, he still knows how to play it. It's very simple.

For the most part, you're right. Crow isn't a very complex or difficult album to play. But compared to their other albums, it is.

Personally, I think Crow is the most complex. They played around with time signitures a little more, there is more jazz influence it seems like, and his chord progression choices are amazing.

+1. However, aside from that, everything else they've released recently seems to showcase the beginning of exploration into the more jazzy rock territory as opposed to metal. Brandon did schrooms hardcore back around the Fungus Amongus/S.C.I.E.N.C.E. days (not sure about the rest of the band, but I know Mikey did it at least every so often). Me I'd pick Kenney, or old Incubus would have to be Mike as he hardly ever smiles or anything on stage. But I don't like to judge book by covers so, meh.

I've heard Ben is really cool. If he's anything like he is online in real life he definitely is.

On the MTV Diary I downloaded Dirk was real down to earth and funny. Ah well..

Mike was pretty quiet compared to the rest of them. Jose, Kilmore, Ben and Brandon were really friendly though.

i chilled and smoked with incubus. actually i only smoked with Brandon, Mike and Jose. this was back in 2001. they said that Dirk was straight edge, but he drank. i dont know if this was just at the time or what. but he didnt stay. brandon was quiet unless someone was talking to him. mike was quiet as well. but Jose was funny as hell. he kept sayin he made the piece that we were smoking out of. i didnt really get to chill with Kilmore. he was playing video games. but they all seemed pretty cool. or maybe i was just starstruck. i havent met Ben yet.

From Kate Earl's MySpace:

I have been in rehearsals with three member of incubus, mikey, jose and ben, and we will be perfoming tomorrow on KCRW morning becomes ecclectic with Nick Hartcort as well as doing a show in LA @ the Mint 8pm. It will be my frst show where i actually get to perform the songs from my album with the players from my album, including Officer!!! I am really happy about the rhodes i'll be playing on tomorrow. I would prefer Brandon sticking to the vocals/percussion thing. Personally, I have a thing against Frontman-Superiority Syndrome - many bands, such as Coldplay, suffer from this. If you're going to call your band The Jimi Hendrix Experience, then Jimi should be far more important and prominent than the other band members. However, if you want to dub yourselves Coldplay, Chris Martin should be no more important than Johnny, Guy or Will.

In this respect, I would prefer it that Brandon stuck with what he does best - singing. Otherwise, it quickly gets to the point where the lead singer gets a big head about things. IMHO, any band that can play a song using only one member is going down the wrong road. A band should be a group of collaborating musicians, not solo artists.

Instead it's just Brandon dancing around hitting on the bongos and trying to look hot for the ladys.

Back in the S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself days, most Incubus fans were male, so it wasn't just Brandon showing off his *** the whole time.

Blasphemy!!!

Brandon has his showcasing moments cause he can. he is getting better at singing and hitting certain notes. vocals are instruments too. if the record companies were exploiting it, they would havegot better press for Crow and they would have defintaly have been noticed on HALO2 better. face it the people that who have heard the movements and know its them is the FANs and if they were trying to exploit Brandon talents they woulda had him sing more on those.
