IMO picking up Ben was a great move for the band, since make yourself the band has been moving in a more straight up rock oriented direction, and Dirk's funky style doesn't fit as well and may have held the music back. Ben plays a few different instruments and has laid down some nice solid basslines on crow. I'm sure he also helped a lot with the odyssey.

I forgot to say with Mike taking more of a lead approach in the band, it is better that he doesn't have to compete with the bass player. His skills get to be showcased.

They're both completely different musicians...but Ben was a great choice not just because of his bass abilities but also his singing. The bridge of Agoraphobia is proof of that.

yeah. theyre different and thats probably a good thing, rather than having another dirk style bassist who would imitate, ben shows his own qualitys on the album and live by using different styles, moving the band forward in their songwriting. i admit, i was disappointed on red rocks when certain shade of green was DESTROYED!!!

I really despise fungus amongus, Its not Incubus to me. Even though most of the Incubus fans adore that album. Dirk was a good bassist, But Incubus are making more serious music to me now.

Incubus as a whole are unique. there is not 1 band i have heard who sound anything like them and that makes them what thye are. Dirk was a good bassist, but you can tell that they have found an excellent replacement by watching the improvised solos on the alive at red rocks DVD. Brandon is possibly the most inspirational vocalsit i have heard. His lyrics are incredibly deep and clever, and his voice sounds amazing, even when performing live. Mikey is a great guitarist, i mean, some of the songs and sounds he has come up with are incredible. Make yourself is probably the best album, and i think that all the songs on morning view a superb. i have to agree when people say that ACLOTM is not as good. Only 4 of the songs i actually enjoy listening to.

Best song for me is just a phase. Brilliant.

That whole album just reminds me of a way more accessible Mr. Bungle, which led to my purchase aswell. They still play 'Take Me To Your Leader' occasionally in shows, which shows me they're not ashamed of their past even though in the liner notes of Fungus it states they kind of were. It's very innovative and probably the bands epitomy of funkiness.

Enjoy Incubus was a sort of EP for Fungus Amongus. But it does have a few tracks that weren't on Fungus Amongus.

Yeah. Windows Media said, "Error downloading Codec" but started to play the files anyway. I thought something was wrong with it but then I just figured they were only audio files. So how do you think I fix it?

I have every Incubus album and they are my second favorite band. I must say I do think that they are on a downhill slide, but definately still amazing. Oh and Ben Kenney is a good bassist, but no one can take the place of Dirk Lance.

Well they said the songs were 100% inspired by the movie and made to fit the movie. I don't really like the songs either but I can see how they would be perfect for a movie.

I actually tend to dislike their ballads a lot more than their more uptempo, high energy stuff, but I think these are two of the best ballad/slower songs they've ever done. Not to sound too gay, but they're just beautiful songs, especially Admiration.

Suzy Katayama's (sp?) string work is fantastic, and Brandon sounds great and actually came up with some solid lyrics for these two. He and Chrissy sound great together on NOUCS.

Admiration gives me the vibe of a MV song, but with the technicality of something off Crow....same thing w/NOUCS, except that the guitar in the main verse reminds me of MY.

Suzie´s work is aways awesome, she also worked with The Mars Volta on Frances the Mute, and it was amazing. I just feel like the new stuff doesn´t have that Incubus vibe, you know? I mean, take a look at Aqueous Transmission, what a great song (Suzie also worked on this one), and compare it to "Admiration" and "Neither of Us Can See". Aqueous has such a deep vibe, while the new stuff, at least to me, sounds kinda "empty".

I owned the new cd Crow Left Of The Murder (gave it away), and i didnt like any of it. I listened to it a few times through and just couldnt get into it. Boyd's voice just seems to get more annoying and his lyrics seems a little more whiney. Dont get me wrong I was a huge Incubus fan I own every album but the new cd. I dont like the direction the band is going, they have strayed from the funkish/metal/ whatever they use to be. I really like Morning View but from that album you could tell they where going in a different direction. More Power to them but if Incubus keeps going in the direction it is i wont even bother to listen to anything they release in the future.

They haven't been funk or metal since SCIENCE people. Period. They had exactly one truly funky song on Make Yourself (Battlestar) and Morning View (Are You In), that's it.

All I ask of people is to give Ben one more shot...wait and see what he offers on the next record. So far he hasn't been up to Dirk's level (though I thought Dirk was mediocre on Morning View anyway, aside from a couple songs), but he's a far superior musician and I imagine he's going to come out of his shell more and more. Hell, his basslines were the only thing I like about Make a Move.

let me just say this i've seen incubus live with Dirk 5 times and live with Ben 1 time and i can say that Ben brings alot to the table. for some of you who dont know Ben was asked to be in TLC as an audition for incubus..once they decided he'd be the new bassist they went right to recording so he had short time to catch on...but from the time that came out to the time i saw them live to the time they released red rocks he has gotten used to them and is adapting well...and how can you get cooler then playin in the roots?? i dont know if your familiar with that band but if your in that band that means your a badass mutha ****a. and just watch the DvD he not only plays bass but drums and backing vocals..and when i saw them live he played guitar. all dirk did was walk a 5 string and step in front of the camera (ahem Morning View Sessions)...all in all i love dirk but i like incubus with Ben.

as for the funk of incubus...if they stayed with it and made just that alot of people would throw them away with all the other Nu-Metel trash that died out a few years ago. but see talent, thats right kids talent, makes you move forward not stay in one place. not tryna be a prick, just tellin it like it is.

the new bassist is fine, if you listen it sounds the same as it did before they swapped out. its not like incubus has hard basslines either, a trained monkey could play bass in 99.9% of rock/ metal bands.........there are exceptions though, red hot chili peppers, 311, tool, and incubus......those are real bassplayers

I think Incubus are a great band as they are. They are one of the first bands that I started listening to when I got out of my pop/rap phase. I don't like their newer stuff nearly as much as the early Incubus. Fungus Amongus and Morning View are probably my two favorite albums from them, but I like every album. It's far too hard to pick a favorite song.
