Hi, im currently writing doom songs a la Anathema ,Katatonia more moody and atmospheric than full on shouty aggresion. I'm fine with pretty much everithing but struggle a bit when it comes to song proggresion and structure especially transitions from one part to another. If anyone has any tips that might help me out i'd be gratfull,

 cheers ,Spinewinder

I'm guessing they will be kind of like stories... just change the moods to fit the lyrics or intended feel. Soft, slow, minor key music for sad bits, more upbeat, major key, majestic feels for the happy bits.

If like some Anathema they are sad the whole way through.. you can still vary the intensities of things.. add ambient sounds too, like whispers or something, they always help the mood.
I'd also like to hear it if you ever make it available for listen, but you can also trust me to forget all about it and miss out.

Thanx for the tips,I think im gettin there now.Youll be able to hear the results when I get round to postin some of my tunes, still not sure what a bridge is though I think its just the bit that leads form verse to chorus (the tricky bit)
thanx again, Spinewinder

Don't get stuck on the idea that you need to have any particular structure to make it work, the song should determine the sequencing of parts, not the other way around.

Try not to set a song around a structure, there doesn't have to be a set of rules that you follow as long as it sounds how you want it.
