the strangest thing happened - yesterday i had a jam with my band, which i haven't done for 4 months. it used to be a weekly thing but since i started uni we decided to call it quits.
i still sing pretty much everyday with my acoustic and made sure i warmed up for yesterday. however when i sang into the mic, my voice felt constricted, and my throat went very soar, very quickly. i wasn't singing much louder into the mic than i do everyday with my acoustic in my room, so what was happening?
i still got through 4 pints of water, and it only felt soar when i sang (not any other time).

I got the same thing, so not much help over here. I just bought some vocal sprays, waiting for them to be delivered postal mail. best thing to do is to quit testing your voice and give it some rest. I am doing humming notes right now when driving in the car...I want to build back up and then take lessons. zinc losenges, humidifer, peroxide, listerine help some. for me, it is just the right side in the back of the throat. It used to feel like I had a little cut in the back of my throat, but it is better since. my ENT said I am 100% fine...
if you got the bucks, see a vocal teacher/therapist...otherwise, try some of these suggestions...you may be better off then me...

If you have to rely on vocal sprays, something is wrong.
If you have a sore throat, and it's not caused by illness, you are hurting your voice by singing. Excess tension is the main thing that singers fall back on when their technique fails. This leads to everything from improper support and breathing to bad tone to...nodes.
So when your throat starts to feel constricted and tight, you know you need to stop and focus on using your diaphragm properly, and relaxing your upper body. If you get a sore throat, stop. Singing on top of it will only make matters worse. Rest a while, THEN come back to singing.
If this is a persistent problem, please go out and find a good voice teacher. Otherwise, you may permanently damage your voice.

yer. the thing is i've never had this problem before, and it came out of nowhere. i'm hoping that next time it won't happen. next time isn't for a month or so, so it should be okay.

just got all of these (above) in the mail, I am stoked!!!!
of course Kristina always speaks the truth - I plan to get a singing teacher...on the other hand, I know that I damaged my throat not my vocal folds (per ENT) ...and it was from toolian/godsmack/slipknot screams...so I know what NOT to do for me...I have had lessons plan to get more...Ill keep ya updated on the sprays!
yeah for sprays coming in the postal mail today!

Leviate,
let me know how the sprays work for you. I think VOCAL EZE tastes extremley bad but it works really well. Try CLEAR VOICE if you ever find any; its the best i've found.

sweet, I might try CLEAR VOICE. Right now, I payed $40 for these three, so it has a pretty good placebo effect :)
j/k actually they feel like lip balm, but I got really chapped lips...I decided to stop taking meds for acid reflux disease because I don't think it is doing anything, I probably dont have acid reflux...I'll keep ya'll updated though, might try CLEAR VOICE.
peace!
