Hey i'm wondering what some if someone knows what type of gear i would need for at home hip-hop recording. I have tonnes of recording and production experience with rock bands, but i was wondering if there are certain things that should be looked at if recording hip-hop or other computer produced recordings

I dont know much about recording but get something that samples(for private use or you got the cash to pay royalts). I am sure if you looked around the internet you could find a program that you could make beats too.

from issue 69 of computer music magazine...
"Hip Hop
Minimal basslines, heavy loops and a rock solid groove define the biggest leap in pop music since the arrival of the electric guitar"
"its still all about a rock solid, fairly minimal groove, often with a big, fat hi-hat chunking away on the eights. Loops had a certain sound and as these loops got chopped up and arranged over the pads of an MPC, for example, a more drum machine=based sound evolved"
"...the main thing to remember about programming hip-hop is to not quantise everything, and keep to a minimal bassline. If it feels good, leave it, but make sure you have a firm foundation to build on"
then they walk you thru a tutorial on how to get a "copywrite groove" and a "dr dre sound"

i guess you should get a sampler of sorts, some pre-made loops cd's, a drum machine, a midi keyboard, a bass guitar but don't need it as you could do *everything* on the computer.
my 2 cents
