Hi,

I finally got a good recording program that would let me triple track and mix my recordings.

So i'm just testing it out at the moment, I recorded 2 solos to backing tracks.

http://www.m4rk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ctsolo.mp3 - Crazy Train

http://www.m4rk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/doammsolo.mp3 - Diary Of A Madman

The lead sound seems to come out alright, but the rhythm sounds dont have very much "oomph!" as it were.

Any help or criticism welcome.

Mark

what I love about you, is that you have tastes and you try to learn from the masters, not from the low-end guitar players, either if they are succesfull or not.

I think you are a good guitar player, but what it's seems weird to my ears, is that in the first song, with all that tapping stuff...are you out of tune, or is your guitars octave setting gone? I mean the pitch from the tapped note is a few commas away from the played note. So either you need to tweak the guitar a bit, or you are playing the wrong notes.

Also I have a feeling that you have, just a little bit of a problem keeping the tempo after a metronome. You are a bit in a hurry, then you realize this and try to get after the metronome(you are doing it well) but the feeling is still the same, that you have little bit of troubles keeping the pace.

Other than these I would say that they are pretty good solos, and also you chose the randy rhoads solos that are not above your skills :)

good work

Thanks everyone for you're kind comments, but this one struck me the most because I am ABSOLUTELY certain it has something to do with the program i'm recording with (Sony Acid 5.0).

Its really strange right, because when I record, i do it fine, all in time, but then the program tries to adjust what i've just recorded to the backing track. It stretches or does something to it to try and fit it to the tempo of the backing track, amazingly strange, I dont know how to stop it doing this, because when i play things back, it sounds in time... but not in time at the same time?

and the out of tune business... i recorded crazy train as soon as i picked up my guitar to test the program, so i didnt tune it, but i dont really tune it when im messing around at home on it, because gibson les pauls tend to stay in tune quite well, so that may be why it sounds slightly out of tune.

I hope you didn't feel offended :) I really think that it is very good.If you are using acid than it is clear. When you insert a track, in the track properties, set it to track only or something like that, not looped or beats. Set it just to play the track so it won't adjust the tempo(it resamples the sample by shorting some of the offtempo beats in the sample for the entire sample to match the tempo set in the song). Or put the track in Soundforge or Cooledit. So then you explained the tuning thing too. It seems these are really tehnical details so in this new situation I would have to say that they are excellently played solos :) just tune the guitar. I personally cannot play with a not tuned guitar. It doesn't feel well and it hurts my ears. Not in your case tho, it was just a notice :)

cheers~
