Okay, so I just made this blisteringly fast and heavy song, right. I noticed that it's in C Dorian (I tune down 1 step, and play in the "D" position). I noticed that the Dorian Mode is usually used for like blues, rock and Country. How did I get my song to sound so dark and heavy using a country mode?

forget your setereotypical views of what modes are for. In most situations, a mode can give many moods.
however, the dorian is a fairly bright scale. I doubt that your song is in the Dorian mode.

Dorian is a minor one...it's a natural minor with the major 6th.
It's used a lot in medieval music.

Yet I was jamming with it over some funk with my guitar teahcer yeaterday, I think. I seem to recall the one we were using had a minor 7th though.

A commonly used mode in church music, also called a "church mode". My 2 cents :)

If you want to make medieval music, D Dorian is the way too go. Its almost impossible NOT to make it sound medieval if your in that mode.

Dude, that is exactly what our lead guitar player said. He was all "We should call it 'Hammer of Thor'."
