O.K. I need to create a Drop D song for my band cause we need a new song to play for the battle of the bands. And we want it to be u know a metal song. Now, i've already created part of one but when it comes to the first guitar solo, i'm having problems. I'm having problems because i dont know what key its in... It's kinda chromatic. I have an F and an F#, a G and a G#, A# and D#, everything else is natural. I would like to know what key this is in if u can help me. its very important. i was wondering if i should just create a backing track and try and solo over it and see what notes sound good together, but again it would help a lot if someone could tell me what key this is in! Thanks to whomever can help me :) If u want to talk to me personally, IM me at Solidsnake3725, or email me at Solidsnake3725@aol.com

I'm a drummer, so this may be retarded, whatever.
The notes in a F chord are: FCA
The notes in a G chord are: GDB
and bla bla bla
Can't you take these notes and use them higher up an the fret board and solo with them? It only takes a minute to figure out.

Well chromatics can work well in almost any scale or chord progression if used right. Id say the key of E major would work good after the chromatic part. If you wanted to do a sad sounding solo put it in C# minor (same as E major but start on C#)

drop d does not automatically = metal.
Just write a riff, in whatever tuning. The heaviest music there is is usually in standard tuning (early metallica, etc.)
