How is that a good thing? You can only use the word in one goddamn context. It's like "keychain".

The challenges are difficult enough when I have to figure out a way to fit "continuum" in stylistically (which is a word that can be used several different ways). It's just irritating when someone picks a completely context-driven word.

Personally... I'm having a LOT of difficulty writing something for this. Actually, I'm just having difficulty writing lately. Writers block really sucks... I've been too lazy and gone out of practise.

It always feels like that. It's felt like that since the moment I got here.

It isn't really that way, it just seems like it. You're only noticing it because you're on more often now.

Also, I got rid of the community thread because no one was using it for what it was: a COMMUNITY thread. Several people continued to spam it to hell, even though it was quite easy to use correctly. I was not about to let those people off the hook.

Actually, morissey does tend to give a lot of in-depth critiques, from what I've seen. I can't say that for the rest of them because I haven't really noticed one way or the other from them. So at least he does try to boost the morale of the forums.

This is where I would point to the Community Thread as an example had I not deleted it because it was so misused.

Man, you're telling me. Hammy's the best writer I've ever seen on the site, gaslight was awesome, and I really like the rest of those guys.

And I moderate here, I have to come in every day and put up with the fact that we don't have a lot of great writers anymore.

Wow...I didn't even realize they went back to Challenge 37. I was actually looking for the song that I won my only challenge with, but I couldn't find it. Oh well. Just wanted to see how I actually won a challenge, and what I wrote to win it.

Oh, and as far as the depletion of good writers on this forum go, I think we still have some potentially good ones around, but they're just not as steadily good as some of the ones you listed JMunk.

I think it's not as much a trick or a joke as much as it is a good way to insure that people aren't just aimlessly voting, which I'm sure has happened in the past. Or we can ask for justification. That works too.

Nope. Its not about someone on the verge of death at all. Its more cliche than that.. Don't you just love how I critise everyone for being cliche then always write about cliche topics myself. Haha. I just write them so vaguely and just a bit off-center. I tend to wander off-topic into language and images that don't really have any purpose other than to express a certain emotion I'm feeling.

Oh my song topic is so cliche. Its about me breaking up with this girl I was going out with. Its about me being torn between thinking "Wow, this girl is wonderful" and "What the f.ck am I doing? I'm just using her" and "But she can deal with it, its her choice" and "I'm still not over my Ex" and "Can I get someone better? Is there someone better?" and etc. etc. and stumble into confusion.

But really, just like always, I'm mostly just writing about how the subject makes me feel rather than the actual subject. Therefore this leaves the piece open to alot of interpretation, like always, because I leave it so vague. That's pretty much my goal; just to write an abstract piece that emotes the feelings that I explore as I think about a subject. My mind's complicated and messy and confusing. I don't understand much of what I write myself... who cares about what it means? It must have a subconscious meaning somewhere or else I couldn't have wrote it and I wouldn't be happy with it.

d0ped0g, dude, i'm not overly mysterious when it comes to songwriting. its a pretty simple theme, plot and all. i'm big on plot and setting, and other assorted things.
just about a guy finding love, which is the head over heels(chorus) but constricting(verse) kind, and then wanting to get out, knowing anything he does will ruin whatever they've created together(bridge). i bet its happened to a lot of people, not just me.
people look for love for themselves, but when they do, they find its more than them, yada yada yada..the whole cliche romance thing. finding the way love actually goes isnt the way its in the books etc etc.
i should turn off the temple of the dog i've been listening to all week. a similar theme's in a song off that. aside from two words, there is no other similarity but still, i likey that song..a lot. beautiful lyrics. i wish i'd written it.

I apologize to anyone who thinks my song is jumbled and moved around. I didn't mean for it to seem that way. Oh, and dOpe, at the end of the song where he (I guess, unsuspectingly) lives, it was meant to be that the whole song was leading up to him being so badly beaten, and you see what it would have been like had he not faught back. The end part is sort of an "alternate ending" of sorts, where he does fight back and becomes better because of it. I know, that **** sounds really trite...but I can't help it.

Oh, and DF, I wasn’t trying to be clever with it. Not really. And this wasn’t all to be as it was happening, only the italicized parts. Everything else was supposed to be reflective, but it’s going through his mind as if it’s happening in the moment. I guess reliving it would be a better description. So therefore, the kid is not trying to be ironic. The kid, by the way, is supposed to be in his pre-teen/early teen years. And he wasn’t weak, he just never tried to fight back until he got completely fed up with it. As for the kid drinking alcohol, it was supposed to reflect that he was doing what he saw his father always do. That same idea is expressed in the end when he fights back against his dad. I guess you could say monkey-see, monkey-do…if you’re a douchebag, that is.

There is no black/white definition of lyrics. Its all subjective. When I read an entry here, I vote on what the piece envokes in me. Your points, as stated, are all valid. Someone could put the rules to this challenge to music and probably have (see cytoplasmicglob) and who is to say if they're lyrics or not. Your entry did not envoke a musical/lyrical sense in me. I thought it very interesting piece but got much more of a spoken vibe than musical.
