Not a song
By what standards do you crit other's song? By what standard SHOULD WE?
Do we crit them with an international standard, pitting them against lyircal masters such as opeth?
I guess we need to set a standard here at mx, to crit songs, i'd suggest to set it high, so that everyone will improve.

I suggest you read people's songs, explain to them what you do and do not like about it, and try not to compare it to other artist's songs. Just take it as it is and say what you think, and everyone else will try and do the same.

every song should be held together by a common thread. laden with many metaphors and imagery is not what i am talking of, but a constant theme being maintained through every line. does it stay on path? or am i drowning in the shallow end of a metaphor pool?
all songs are not the same and should not be treated as such. do not grade a comical or whimsical song on it's quality of metaphor or imagery. also, quit complaining of "forced" rhyming, no rhyme structure (or rhyme for that matter), or song length. i can name far more bad songs with childish rhyming than i can bad songs that don't rhyme.
we should all strive to look past the subject (as mindnumbing as that may be), and even spelling and grammitical errors, and grade it according to content. if it's good, it's good, if it's bad, it's bad; cliche doesn't matter.
