Yes, Reggie White, formally of the Eagles, Packers, and Panthers has passed. He died this morning of a heart-attack, just 7 days after his 43rd birthday.

He was a great player, but a great person as well. Wasn't he a reverend?

I heard them say something about this in the Indy-SD game, but this is the first I've actually read about it. This really is a loss for the NFL, because Reggie White was one of the best players in the league for 15 years, but he was also one of their best ambassadors off the field.

Have a good one, Reggie.

what i don't really get is how the hell a nfl superstar can get a massive heart attack? aren't they meant to be really fit? was it a heredatory(sp?) thing?

He was on the d-line, so he had a ridiculously large body mass index. That places people at an increased risk for heart-related conditions. Anyway, I heard that he had sleep apnea and stopped breathing in his sleep. I'm kinda curious as to what really happened. Either way, it sucks. Perhaps 43 is the life expectancy in some African countries, but that's really young for someone here.

He went to the University here (UTK, University or TN in Knoxville).

I guess since he retired he had gained a lot of weight too. Last time I saw him on TV he looked a lot bigger than when he was playing. And I'm sure alot of the muscle he had during his career was replaced by fat after he retired.

I remember watching him in the Super Bowl, he was amazing, and from what I hear he was also one of the best guys off the field.
