View Full Version : Lag Problems--Need Help (concerning WoW)
Hey all
I just bought World of Warcraft for PC yesterday. The thing is, it lags badly. Is this something I should just give it a day or two to catch up?
My internet connection is fine--Cable
My video card is fine
My computer is an HP Pavillion PC that I bought roughly a year ago. It should be able to handle the game, but at the moment it's running extremely slow. Like I said, should I just give it a day or two or what? Do I have to buy some more components for my computer to make the game run faster (RAM, disk space, etc.)?
What do I do?
Thanks for the help

Try updating your ethernet card drivers. That might help with the lag.
EDIT: Also, list what your video settings are at. That might be the problem. Also, what kind of video card (chances are, if it's HP made/intergrated, it's not going to be that great of a card).
Where do I update ethernet card drivers? (Sorry Im bad with computers)
Where do I find my video settings? If you mean the settings in WoW, then theyre default.
My video card-I had to remove the one it came with and by a better one because that one sucked. My current one is a Verto GForce FX. (if that helps)

if you have a Gforce i don't see why it would run slow :-\.
Check video settings in control panel (star menu)
It COULD, and dont quote me on this, be your Ram. How much Ram do you have?

Try lowering the resolution and turning off some environment details, that might make it run smoother.
Also, find out who is the manufacturer of your ethernet cards, go to their website, and update the drivers for the ethernet card that you have.
Ok.
I can lower the resolution (I think) and probably the environment details. So that's cool.
And as for the ethernet card thing, I can probably find out who makes them (I'll ask my dad even though I dont know what one is). But this update--is this a free download from their site or something?
Thanks for the help.
Really if you have any more suggestions go for it.
I really really want to play this game smoothly without moving 2 feet in 10 minutes. And as a paying customer, if this doesnt work then I will (sadly) quit. I really need all the suggestions.
And is this problem sound like a video issue more than internet? because my connection is green and I have cable so it would seem like thats good. And my video card is pretty good.
Thanks

ethernet card is the what your internet goes through on your computer.
you have the modem []--------->{Tower}
the ethernet card is the card that your ethernet cable plugs into. If drivers aren't updated, they can run slow.
Now what I want you to do, go into the game, look at the ping bar, tell me if it's red, yellow, or green. If it's green, it's your video card and not your internet. If it yellow, look at the number it'll say (##ms). Tell me what it says, if the number is small enough, it's more than likey not your internet..
if it's red, it's your internet.
The color is always green.
It was always green yesterday too.
So video card then? And if so, what video card should be my next purchase?

I would probably go with a higher end GeForce, like a GeForce 5600 or 5700, either that or go with a higher end ATI like a Radeon 9600XT, or 9700 pro
Ok.
Thanks so much. I really appreciate it.

We found out my video card--Its a GeForce FX5200
My RAM is 256, which is the minimum recommended level.
My internet connection seems find (in green).
So what could it be?
Should I get a better video card with more memory, more RAM, or what? My dad suggests that it could just be the laggy servers (which I doubt--Im on Daggerspine PvP).
