Im more into the MKII's tbh
Na, i didnt like the sound clip as much.
The only downside I can see is are they really worth nealy £100 more then the K Rides. Which is leaning me more towards a K.

They may cost £100 more, but that's because they're about £100 better than a K ride.
I'm planning on eventually getting either a 22" Signature Dry Heavy (custom order) or a 22" Dark Energy Mark II ride for my primary ride, and moving the sweet ride to an aux position.
Those rides are just so damn awesome.

True, but im going to wait and see. Im just going to go there (in two weeks), and try with my ears, and see which goes better with my hats. I have a basic sound in mind, and hoep I dont come away with something I will regret.

what do you say about sabian vault artisan ride??? Is it worth that money...I want very clear and bright sound!!!

vault artisan rides are very jazzy rides. if you want bright, u might be better of with the regular Vault ride or a A Custom ride

umm....damn.....uhh......well......get the vaults and the quick beats.....then give me the quick beats.
seriously though, play all 3 and buy which ever you like, because they are all great hats
I've played all of them minus the Quickies, but I'll try those the next time I go to guitar center. What type of sound do they have?
HeLLmO
07-02-2006, 01:40 PM
well, i'm not sure exactly how to describe it, but somethin' is up on the bottom hat, i can't recall if it is drilled, or if the edges are wavy, but you get a very fast sound with a very good chick. they're very versitile, and just sound great

Hey I'm looking for pro-level Hi-Hats and a pro-level Crash. I don't have any decent quality cymbals as it is, so right now I don't have to match them with any existing cymbals. But I'm trying to find cymbals which fit most styles, but they can tilt towards rock. I also much prefer cymbals with tone. My budget is something like $300 AU for the hats and $300 AU for the crash, but I could (but obviously dont want to) stretch the budget on the hats to $500. I'm thinking of getting HHX Evolution 14" Hats and a Meinl Byzance 16" Crash, which I think are out of the budget, which means I should start looking for bargains here and there. Do you think these would suit what I'm looking for, or would you suggest something else? Thanks in advance.

Nononononono.
Stay clear of ZBT, ZXT, B8, and PST cymbals. Personally, I think you should buy yourself an advanced set of hats and a ride, if you have the money that is. And if this is something you know you'll be doing for a long time, just get advanced cymbals. Beginner cymbals are a waste of money.
Look for-
Zildjian K, K Custom, A, A Custom
Sabian AA, AAX, HHX, HH, Vault
Paiste Signature, Traditional, Rude, 2002, New Signature
Meinl (Sean can elaborate)
Bosphorus
Istanbul
Alchemy
All those make great advanced cymbals.
Otherwise, go Wuhan.

I <3 Meinl, Byzance are incredible, buy them, they sound like Ks and K Customs, but their cheaper, so they kick ***. but i have to disagree with u on 1 thing george, PST5s are actually really great cymbals, ask Thugs(where ever he is, i do not know, but if you find him you can ask him).

if you can spring some cash, i would look into A/A Custom, or AA/AAX packs, because your gonna get great cymbals(i think the A pack is new beats, medium crash and medium ride, and the A custom is regular hats, medium crash, medium ride, and AA is the same as A Custom pack, and AAX you get stage hats, stage crash and stage ride(i think)
if you want to buy seperatly, then look into all the above mentioned cymbals, but also check out meinl stuff like Amun(good cymbals, fairly cheap), Byzance, and the soundcasters/soundcaster custom, for paiste, 2oo2 and Sig are all you will ever need, but sigs are EXPENSIVE

Since that ride is very crashable it is probably medium weight.
If you look closely, you can see that there is only one word "ride" at the opposite end from the K logo.
So that means that ride is a K Ride. Looks like 20" or 22". Could be 24" possibly.

Does the 20" AA Medium Ride weigh more (in physical weight) than the 20" AAX Stage Ride? I know they are both "medium weight" rides but that is cymbal weight.
Does the AAX Studio Ride make for a good crash?
How hard are AA Rock crashes to move? Is crashing a rock crash like crashing a medium ride?
Thanks for the help.

about the AA medium ride it has less wash than the stage, about the weight i don't know, but i like the AA medium better. The studio ride weghts the same as the studio crashes you can get a 20" studio crash, probably you'll get the same sound.
the AA rock crash are nice you just have to hit them a bit harder but the sound it's great, the 16" has a short decay, a 18" or bigger it's a cymbal to have next to the ride

Hello cymbal finding machine! My current cymbal setup consists of:
13" K/Z combo Hi hats
18" K Custom Ride
19" A Custom Crash
16" Stagg Crash (SH or DH)
12" Stagg Splash (SH or DH) the crash is on and the splash is the other
10" Zildjian ZXT Ti Splash
13" Brandless china (loud mothaF though!)... like a gong
Anyway, I'm looking at possibly getting a few more cymbals (we'll see what I can afford), but I was thinking at least a crash and a china, maybe 2 crashes and a china.
I want something that goes well with my current cymbals, as a crash I'd like something like a 16", 17" max. China... hmm... probably similar size. I've always liked the sound of Sabian cymbals, but I've ended up with mainly zildjians from various second hand auctions (all cymbals in good nic though, except the 12" stagg splash.) I'd like the china to have a fast decay (or at least not have a long decay).
I play mainly prog/rock/metal, but am looking at getting into the jazz and latin styles more...
SO! cymbal suggestions? (thanks :thumb:)

china id suggest a smaller wuhan, am 10"er maybe, for crashes, i cant help you, i just can support y0ou turning your kit in to one of those trivium or ttnsb kits, where theres a thousand cymbals, and theres only 3 utilized in the entire song.
but i guess if you must, the paiste 2002 17" i really versatile, and just about any crash in the a custom line will go with yours.

Its not just the genre you play, there are different sounds in cymbals that you might like, so you have to either figure out the sound you want, then find it, or try out cymbals and see which you just like the best.

lol yeh sorry guys, im really not sure how to describe it but i want like a bit of power but with a clean crisp, "nice to the ear" sort of sound. hmm sorry i dno how else to describe it, sorry.
hi hats, 2 crashes, ride
Hihats- Get something with some nice cut to it but versatile just in case you decide to change genres in the future....I would highly recommend AAX stage hats, AA regular hats, A new beats. Those are the hats that will go good with just about any type of music.
Crashes-As for crashes i would go with something no lighter than medium thins but no heavier than mediums. AA medium thin crash, AAX stage crash, AAX plosion crash, AA medium crash, A medium thin crash, A custom crash, A custom medium crash and the list goes on. Again like i said i wouldnt go with anything heavier than medium since they will be hard to move in fast paced music like metal and such. I would highly recommend medium thin crashes in 18inch.
Ride-20 is the basic size to go but i love 21 inch rides. Dont get something too heavy because in loud music like metal and rock a *ping* will more than likely end up sounding like a *tink* because there isnt enough wash to go through the sound or blend with it. go with a medium heavy or a medium ride. AAX stage ride, AA medium ride, AA raw bell dry ride, HH raw bell dry ride,A sweet ride, A medium ride. just stick with teh weights i listed and you should be fine.

I need some help. Im currently saving some money, and even though im doing my best at not spending money on stupid things, its very difficult for me save. I dont have a job. So i was looking at some cymbal pack, and my primary option are b8 pro. I know they are not very good, but its the only thing i can afford. Besides, im pretty sure they're better than the cymbals i have currently.
Im also thinking of instead of buying the b8 pro pack, getting a good hi hat. So, can someone recommend a good hi hat that costs between 200 - 250 $ please. Thanks for any help.

china id suggest a smaller wuhan, am 10"er maybe, for crashes, i cant help you, i just can support y0ou turning your kit in to one of those trivium or ttnsb kits, where theres a thousand cymbals, and theres only 3 utilized in the entire song.
but i guess if you must, the paiste 2002 17" i really versatile, and just about any crash in the a custom line will go with yours.
I use most all of my cymbals in all of my band's songs, and even if I may not use a certain cymbal in a song, I certainly will use it in another one.

definately jsut get a pair of hats because in the future you will want to upgrade those b8 pros. So just build up your cymbals slowly. Usually hihats from zildjian and sabian in 14 inch are aroudn $240(A, A customs, AA, and AAX). What genre if music will you be playing?

Hey I'm looking to completely replace my current cymbal setup.
I'm looking for very jazzy cymbals. Very thin, dark, and with lots of wash. I want a ride (probably 20") that's good for crashing, and a crash (probably 17") that's good for riding, and I DON'T want a crash ride :p. Also looking for a big china (18-19") and a smaller, dark splash (6-7").
Appearance-wise, I love the looks of Istanbul Agop Signatures, and Turkish's.
Price-wise, anything averaging around $200 CND per cymbal.

14 hats.
16 Crash.

20 Ride, although those go on the bit of the ...expensive side.
Might I suggest some HHX Manhattans as well ( Knows nothing about Sabian ).
Or try an Armand Zildjian 19 Beautiful Baby, some quickbeats, and thin and medium thin crashes.
You can take the recomendations that George said too, and you can go to Zildjian.com and check them out at their "sound lab".
Sabian has the same thing with Manhattans.

If your a jazz drummer....you might want to look into a sizzle ride. Alot of jazz drummers have more rides than crashes. You could get a light crispy ride and then a sizzle ride and have a large(r) crash to accompany that of the K series or Manhattan Sabians.

Maybe some like 14/15 New Beats ( Although those might be out of your price range ).
Do you mean operating the high hats with your feet? You'll get more sound out of a larger high hat (and heavier) I would assume.

I've been looking at a new ride cymbal.
Here's what I've come up with so far.
Zildjian A Breakbeat.
K Custom Dry Ride
K Custom Special Dry Ride
K Custom High Definition Ride
A Custom Flat Top Ride
A Custom Sizzle Ride
K Custom Dark Ride.
Basically I want a ride that is not a high pitched ping sound, but I want it to have some stick definition, so If I play like 16ths on it, it won't lose it's presence.
Help Please? I was looking at the Breakbeat, and Ludvista said I might regret it later, so I came to you guys.

Try out the HHX groove, limey boy
The rest of those are good rides (from what I've played) and you can't make a bad decision on them, I'd just say nix on the breakbeat, because I doubt it'd be as versatile as something like a K dark or K dry. Also, the bells are great on most dark cymbals, so I'd think twice before getting a flat pie.

AA Regulars = Lifeless = No Soul.
They're too bland, They're good for hard rock, or something where the hats need to b heard (reggae). But in that case I'd suggest like a 15 K or something.
Meh.
My opinion though, they're very ordinary those Sabians.

People who use Crashs as rides rule.
Before I got my K Ride, i use to use a 20" UFIP Class Crash (Medium) as my ride. It was great, loads of wash, with alittle ping.
Shame it sucked for recording.

I think I figured it out. Today I went to the shop and picked up a 20" HHX Stage Ride, and a 16" HHX Stage Crash. Along with those I picked up a Gibraltar Moto-style throne (9600 I believe).
I still have a few hundred dollars left, and I think I will buy an 18" Istanbul Mehmet Sultan Series Jazz Ride, 14" Sultan Series Hats, and MAYBE even an 18" Sultan Series Crash.
When I set up the set with everything, I will have everything listed above + what I'm moving from my other drumset. Which is most likely a 12" Wuhan China, and my 10" HHX Splash.

Oh, and also I'm moving my 14" Paiste Full Crash.
Howdy here, this is my first post here, just so you know ^^
Anyway, I'm looking for a nice hihat, I dont have alot of money to my disposal and thus ask your advice. I was thinking about the Paiste Innovations, but I'm still not sure =(
I mainly play symphonic rock, like Rush, Styx and Yes, so I definitly need a nice chick. Open sound should be like a shhh that sounds quite soft and well...uhm, I guess sweet would be a good word? I would like as little ring as possible and the closed sound, well, I wouldnt really know honestly. I dont like the real dark sound, as I said before should be 'sweet' orso
Grtz, and as you might have noticed, I'm not that good at describing cymbals ^^

So I have an 18" Paiste 2002 Classic Crash, and an 18" Sabian AA Medium Crash.
I want to get a third crash that can not only compliment those two, but also provide a dark, warm alternative to these two 'loud bright' rock crashes.
I'm thinking of something along the lines of a 17" Istanbul Agop Traditional, probably a Medium-Thin. I have a 14" Thin right now, but I'm gonna replace it as its just too small to cut it as anything more then a large splash.
Any ideas?

i was looking for a darker crash than my 18" as a second crash that would be used mostly on the offbeat and for crash riding if you get me, when i need something heavier than pinging the ride. money isnt really a problem, i just need some idea of what to get. im guessing people will be saying K custom, around 20"...but yeah, advice please. excuse my lack of techinical terms for playing, ha.

I have 14'' Class hats (Medium). They are your classic hat sounds, really nice. Though one issue I have of recent, is that they are really bright, though this may be from the room I played in last.
Listen to my bands songs, http://www.myspace.com/thesingletons I used my Class hats, a Natrual crash and a Experince Vintage Ride (the old model of the Boinic).

Boinic and Class are different. Boinic have deep hammering, where the class dont.
Class series, are the 'A' of UFIP. They are the most musical series that they offer, and are great cymbals.

If your looking for new cymbals and money is an issue, the A custom and A trad box sets are a solid choice. Theyre like $650 american at GC and in Musicians friend(same thing), and you get a 20" ride, 16" crash and 14" hats, plus a free cymbal bag(which is pretty sweet I have it). Plus, the A customs pack comes with both the free bag AND a free 18" crash.Heres a link, theres some other box sets, too. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/perc/navigation?N=100001+304981+11&page=1
