by all description, the AAX should be tighter and more direct. the AA is the all around model...have a 16" myself
the AAXtreme, is a more trash kinda Chinese. very tight, but lacks the normal sizing. of course, you could always custom size the one you want...but that takes a while

Looking for a new ride! I want something clean and crisp, not too washy, bright or with major big build up or long decay. At home I play anything from jazz to metal and hip hop to punk. In my band, we play art-grunge/punk so I'd want something relativly versatile. The AAX Stage ride seems to fit but I only heard it from the recording on the Sabian website. There are no good shops round here for me to try stuff out so I'll have to order off the net. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Ok, I've been listening to the MP3 samples on the companys websites all day and have narrowed it down to this as a potential new cymbal setup. I know its really all down to personal preference and opinion but I was interested in other peoples point of view. Do you think the choices would compliment eachother, go with my bands music (some weird art-grunge genre), have any other suggestions etc?

Looking for a new ride. Something with a less resonant bow, but enough to cut through the music (like The Darkness and Led Zep kinda music) and a loud and pingy(is that the word?) bell. Anything except the Sabian 21" handhammered Raw Bell Dry ride cause its not available in singapore.
I have in mind a sound like the bow of the Sabian 22" Paragon Ride and the bell of the Sabian AAX 20" Stage Ride. Thanks.
stage rides have almost no bell. you should look into the AA rock or heavy ride maybe even the tight or dry rides

I'm having trouble decieding between the 22" K Heavy ride and the 22" K Custom ride, which of these do you think is more versatile and would complement 14" A New Beats or Mastersounds the best? Also, any information you could tell me with your own experience with these cymbals is welcome and appreciated.
the K heavy would be more versatile. Its heavier than the K custom.
anyone know the cymbal gigner baker (from cream) uses. they have the little things dangling through them around the edge

Oh, and what finish do the HHX crashes come in?? They don't have a choice between brilliant and traditional on massmusic, and I'm thinking they're probably traditional... but I wanna make sure so that other cymbals I order match up.
I beleive HHX are just traditional. K equivalent would probably be the HH heavy

for the china the 17" AAXtreme china is excellent. If you don't want to spend the money though look into Wuhan.
Well what would be a good Wuhan china? I don't know anything about Wuhan so I really need help in that area.
Also how do the AAXtreme chinas, the AAX chinas, and the AA chinas compare to each other?

I've never heard a Wuhan china but they get much praise they are a must to try out though because of the hand hammering and individual sounds.

for £120 you could get piaste 101s or sabian solars they are both quite cheap althought the 101s are better.. you would also have enough to say get a 14" crash or 12" splash say.. or you could save up some more for some zildjian Zbts as they are pretty good to start with:thumb: :chug:

As far as wuhan chinas go i beleive they are made the same way just different sizes.
AS for the AAX chinas.....The AAXtreme chinese will be a bit more fast and not as "trashy" as the reg AAX chinese. the AAXtreme and AAX chinas are different sizes the aaxtreme is 15, 17, 19 and the aax china is 16, 18, 20. Also the AA chinese has slight trashyness to it but still is kinda bright as are the other chinas too. the AA chinese has a decent attack to it. I own the traditional AA chinese in 18inch and i love it. Something to look into. I want to get a 20inch AA to add onto it. I dont know anything about the AA fast chinese other than it will probably have a faster decay than the other chinas.

I'm looking for a bell effect with a full ping sound, I've already tried the Ice bells and i was not satisfied. Both LP and Sabian ones.

I'm looking for another ride. Currently I have a K custom Dark Ride (20") and I love it, but it's too washy for some situations, and a little too dark for some. I want a ride that is clear, defined, and somewhat bright. If you've heard the bell of an A custom Projection Crash, I want one with a bell somewhat similar to that.
I'd like some names of possible solutions before I head to the shop, because they have hundreds of cymbals there, and I could spend weeks trying every possible way of striking ever cymbal they have, and then they'd get new ones in.
Thanks.

try the zildjian efx zil bells. those are nice. same with the stagg ones.

Does the A Custom Mastersounds have a medium-thin top and medium bottom, or medium-thin top and extra heavy bottom?
Because the zildjian website says both.
And i'm looking for a ride that's similar to the 21" A Custom Projection ride, but with a bit brighter and louder bell.

might wanna try u a 22" A ping
some other favs with ur attributes ur describing
21" hh raw bell dry ride
22" k heavy ride
the splash, maybe think about either a 10" wuhan splash or an 8" AA china splash, most likely the china splash
the groove hats are very distinct, ull definitely wanna listen to those on the sites at least if u cant try em out. also suggest 14 k hats, and 13 hhx groove hats

i don't like zildjians :P, is the 22" K heavy like the 22" HH heavy?, i don't like the raw bell... because everyone has it, is like it's some sort of "the latest fashion cymbal" :P,

People like it because it sounds good. If you want to make an "anti-good gear that's common" statement go buy a setup of ZXTs...
Anyway, to whoever mentioned it, I have a 22" A Zildjian Ping ride, and it's a fantastic cymbal. The bell is clear, bright and defined, while the bow is dry, bright and articulate. Fits in a lot of music. I would recommend it to anyone.

18" crash with a good wash whist "riding", yet bright on single hits. Medium to heavy weight, no pref. on mfg.
Heavier than A Custom, lighter than AA Rock crash.

21" AA Rock Ride or 22" AA Rock Ride for rock/metal...
I'm kind of leaning towards the 22" because, I kind of want that extra bit of cutting ping, but will it be overpowering durning moderately soft rock parts?
Is it still capable of being a dynamic ride?
22" A ping ride maybe?

I've been looking for a China to get...Bare with me as I don't really know many of these cymbal terms..
But basically, it'll be one for heavy rock, and maybe a little goofing off with soft stuff on the side.
I'm thinkin this'll have to be pretty loud. Nothing too high pitched, so probably something biggish. 17", 18", 19"?
I guess my want in sound is pretty open and broad, so, if anything, you can just point me in a general direction and I'll head down to GC sometime to give a little sound test. :thumb:

the projection has a pretty good bell, but the overall cymbal is really bright and sounds like a dog if u crash it :p id recommend the aa rock ride even though i have the projection. as for hats, i think the stage is the most volumous of the three, and it gets my vote for brightness
mmm AA rock ride. soon to be mine. hopefully.

how do you have a bad experience with sabian? if youre talking about breakage then you will probably have the same problem with zildjian. anyways i have never heard of alexisonfire and the term watery isnt exactly helping either.

The crash I had cracked after about a weeks worth of playing, and the hihats Ive played sounded terrible. That was a few years ago though, so dont ask about the model because its been too long :p So far I havent broken a single zildjian and I beat on them like there's no tomorrow. I dont really know how to describe his hihats, except for watery, and the fact that they sound really smooth, not jagged at all. A clip of the hihats is here (http://www.files.bz/files/745/hihats.mp3)
