Who would you take, and what type of QB's are better?

Mobile QB's like Vick, McNabb, Culpepper

or pocket passers like Manning, Brady, Rothlesberhaber etc...

For me, I'd take scramblers because they can run out of the pocket and get big yards, but it seems like they don't know the field as well as Manning and Brady who take a little more time to deliver the ball. I don't know, I'd take Vick though

If I had to pick I'd say the more mobil a QB is, the better. but staying in the pocket is good as well. If the front line does their job, the QB shouldn't need to run.

I'm a Falcons fan so I have to go with the mobile QB.

A mobile QB, so long as he understands the nuances of the position.

In other words, not Mike Vick.

Im not sure, it depends on the defence. How can you defend a player like michael vick when hes on form. Also how can you defend the big passing game (plus big passing games open up the run).

My favourite is Jake DeLhomme. Hes cool ( i know hes not the best though!)

i think it depends on the line, if you have a good pocket protectors, then a pocket qb works, but if you have a line that gives up after 4 seconds, then a mobile

It depends on the team. If your team has a strong offensive line, you'll have a good running game and good protection. There will be less pressure, so you might as well take a pocket passer. They are less suceptible to injuries, and are usually better able to execute their options. If your team has a weak offensive line, you'll have no running game. Not only will the other team be able to bring more heat, but your blocking sucks, so your quarterback will be guaranteed to feel it. In this case, I'd rather have a mobile quarterback. The QB's running ability would either force the other team to take the heat off and allow more time (as opposed to a pocket QB who they'd murder, example: Ramsey, who gets sacked alllll the time), or make their blitzes ineffective.

I want a quarterback who doesn't make many mistakes. I want him to know what the situation calls for, and go from there. I'd personally rather a QB who knows how to use the pocket effectively, and doesn't have a problem biding his time, but knows how to move around and run if need be.

I prefer a pocket QB, but one who can at least get outside the pocket if he needs to. He doesnt need to be able to take off for a 30 yard run, just someone who can get away from the pressure and buy some time for his receivers. A guy like David Carr or Byron Leftwich comes to mind.

I would not want Vick on my team. He carries too much weight. Without Vick, the Falcons don't win.

I do prefer mobile QB's, but I'd want an accurate QB. McNabb would be a good QB for my team, if I had one.

Obviously a mobile quarterback is better. Imagine if Manning could move around. There just hasn't been a quarterback yet who can move like Vick, but also is as good a passer as Manning. McNabb is probably the closests to something like that, but he doesn't move around that much anymore.

^ he did last week without TO around, expect more running from him

as for me i like my pocket passers, you have running backs to run.

Ever heard of Steve Young? He is the most accurate passer in history, and was pretty much the pioneer for mobile QB's.

steve young wasnt much of a mobile QB actually he ran on short yardage situations, but he didnt do it very often. he did it once in awhile as to confuse the defense.

Mobile quarterback doesnt necessarily mean someone like Mike Vick. McNabb is considered a mobile QB, and he doesnt even average 20 yards rushing per game. A mobile QB can be someone who moves around well behind the line of scrimmage and gets away from the pass rush.

Bullshit he wasn't a very mobile quarterback. I watched his entire career as a diehard 49'er fan from the Bay Area. Just because he didn't put up 1000 rushing yards like Vick doesn't mean he didn't run. He was able to evade so many sacks, tackles, and create so many plays with his feet. His career average is like 6 yards a carry and he averaged 300-400 yards a season, but his greatest asset was evading the tackle and making the play, which he did better than probably any quarterback to ever play.

In the 93 and 94 seasons he rushed for 9 touchdowns and 700 yards, passed for 8000 yards, had a 100+ qb rating, 64td's, 26 ints, and had a 70% completion percentage. He had an epic career, and to say he wasn't a mobile quarterback is just naive.

Yeah, I was thinkin about that, but I forgot if it was Young or Montana, so I spared the confusion and went witg McNabb.

obviously you want a bit of a mix of the two as an ideal, but if i had to go for one i'd go for mobile QBs cause i'm a vikings man.

Well the thread isn't about who's best. I think it's about whether it would be best to have a QB who could evade the pass rush or one who lived in the pocket but was extremely accurate. There are some who do both, but that's not the point, right?

Anyway, Culpepper isn't really mobile. He runs slowly and awkwardly. He's just too big to take down.

being a vikings fan, i'll take mobile qb. it's more fun to watch in my opinion, too.
