He said it was unintentional, and he was fined $75,000. No suspension.
He went over to the sidelines and get mentally abused by his team.

he should have gotten suspension(s) instead of a fine. that was a deliberate clothesline. and ferguson was temporarily paralysed and he still gave the crowd a thumbs-up.

Yea, I think he was just going for the ball, I mean he didn't celebrate after the hit like most players would, he went over to the sideline and with stood all the ridicule he got, he realized what happened and regretted it

yea but that doesnt mean he was going for the ball. he may have done it on purpose, realised he done something wrong and took the stick for it.
Plus im never gonna stick up for him cos im a titans fan.

I'm a Titans fan and I think people like Darius Jones are treated horribly unfairly. This is FOOTBALL. People hit other people. He has NEVER had any history of doing this. Why would he start now? He was trying to knock the ball out of his hands and he hit the guys head instead.
The NFL MARKETS big hits and bone crunching plays. They sell it. And then they fine a guy TEN TIMES the usual price for making an unintentional hit on a guy? What the heck is that?
Darius Jones was obviously remorseful, if he had been MEANING to hurt a reciever, he would not have been apologetic.
Now, I think he should be fined--they have to discourage these hits, even if unintentional. But TEN TIMES the usual fine? He didn't deserve that,

The move deserved punishment.
But in all seriousness, think about the situation. Two grown men are running in the same direction at full speed. One guy sticks his arm out to attempt to hit the ball. Is it possible for him to pull his arm back in a split second? No. He would not have had time to think about doing that.
The object on defense is to prevent forward motion by the offense. He was just doing his job, but he should have just leveled him with his body.

1. fines don't do anything. suspensions do
2. we can all say that he was going for the ball. but the fact is he seriously injured ferguson.
3. the hit just even looked dirty. if he was trying to swipe the ball, why did he swing his forearm parallel with the ground into him?

I don't agree with the move either, and I do agree with the fine (also agree that a suspension should be handed out), but why would a player who had no past violations do such a thing? I honestly believe that the hit was accidental. Darius is a clean player.
He still deserves punishment though. Just to reinstate to the "dirty" players that excessive roughness is intolerable.

exactly, whether this is fair or not it will serve as an example. players in the future will hopefully think twice before clotheslining a WR.

Did he fall asleep in the air? There was no way he went for the ball if you watch the replay his helmet is turned towards the other guys helmet not even looking at the ball. Deliberate plain and simple.

If he really meant it to be deliberate, it would've been far worse than it was.

I am not sure if the hit was intentional, I've not yet made up my mind, but I think this hit does point out a seemingly unnoticed problem in the NFL: Wear the safety equipment how its meant to be worn. Had Ferguson's helmet been strapped as it should have been, and fit like they a helmet should, It never should have come off. I'm not saying that the helmet staying on would have prevented this injury, but this sort of thing could have more serious consequences. I think at least once a game I see someone's helmet fall off, which is totally inexcusable, I mean, If you're a lineman, and you ahve your chinstrap attached half arsed, and it falls off halfway through the play, and you get a helmet knock to your head, that could be life threatening. And really, take a look next time: how many WR's knee pads cover their knees? About none.
Unfortunately, this will probably be one of those things where a player will have to be seriously injured before other players think twice about it.

Agreed.
If he wanted to injure the guy, he would've tackled his knees.

I highly doubt it was on purpose. It's not like he's a dirty player, so he should have gotten off with a warning. It was pretty sweet though, even though it put the guy in the hospital.

I dunno it was a very sketchy tackle nonetheless you can always control how hard you hit soemone. Also whoever mentioned his helmet should have been properly strapped I have to agree. Though I still feel it was intentional he made no effort to avoid his head it may just not have been meant to intentionally injure him.

..not when two guys are running as fast as they can at each other.
