I think that it is a time between kotor and Morrowind. But morrowind is so addicting. If you have ever played it, you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, how do you guys feel about it? This is the official Morrowind thread. :thumb:

Great game, but it has its flaws. All NPC's look basically the same (age, weight, ...) and without mods, your character is fugly. Cutscenes could help give the NPC's and unique artifacts some real presence. The combat system isn't terribly exciting and the whole game is clearly designed towards fighters.
Dagoth Ur was a wimp and Akulakhan looked very cool but when it collapsed it made absolutely no sound at all, which is a shame
Nevertheless, it's the game that I probably spent more time on than on any other game. :thumb:

I think the title of best RPG ever still goes to Fallout 2, so far.
Morrowind was good, but there's three things that stopped it being great. It was too easy to exploit the experience/level up system (e.g. crouching in a corner for hours, jumping everywhere you had to go, etc). The second is a personal thing, really: the first person view got really annoying. Thirdly, and most damaging, it was too directed; for example, there were times when you literally had to just fight your way through.
Good game though.

That was my favorite game at one point, very fun. Cant wait for "the elder scrolls 4-oblivion"

Morrowind is so great, because you can play 80 hours, have a kickass character and be about 0% through the storyline. Nothing's forcing you to do anything.
I remember the first time I attained vampire, except it wasn't through any of the clans, it was through a rebel vampire. So no matter where I went, I was hunted
I wiped out an entire village when the guards attacked me, vamp boosts rock.

for a free-roaming sort of game, it does get boring and repetitive. I love it; its a great game, but I did get pretty bored after awhile (as someone said earlier, due to repetitive NPCs and such).
But there are periods of times when I just can't stop playing it. (towards the end of summer I was playing for a very unhealthy amount of time and had to break free).
but I'm tempted to start playing again now...

the first person view got really annoying.
you can go 3rd person i just dont remember how offhand
and mods really help this game out but i actually prefer daggerfall{if it had been updated to morrowind game standards}

I played it and finished it with 3 different characters. I loved it. I still have it installed, and I do play it every once in a while. Mods for it weren't very good, or weren't finished properly so that part was cool yet frustrating.
Among the best I ever played for sure, but people listed very good reasons why it failed to be the best ever.

Hell yeah! I don't know about best ever, but it's certainly my personal favorite. I've had it for like 2 years and I still play it on a regular basis. I've played through the main quest 3 or 4 times with different characters. I've also played through the Tribunal and Bloodmoon main quests. My current character is probably the best I've done. Right now I'm level 75. All of my stats maxed out except Luck. With enchantments all of my stats are well over max. My strength is something like 195. Shall we post character info? Weapons and what not? Sorry...I'm a Morrowind freak to the point it's almost sad.
My current character's equipment:
Weapons: Sunder, Deadric Long bow
Armor:
Helmet: Helm Of Oryen Bearclaw
Pauldrons: Her Hands left and right pauldron
Gauntlets: Wraithgaurd, Fist of St. Randagulf
Cuirass: Dragonbone Cuirass
Boots: Ten Pace Boots
Shield: Deadric Tower shield (enchanted w/Fortify Strength 45 points constant effect).
Misc clothing with constant effect Restore Health/Fortify attribute enchantments.
I've got a huge stash of everything I've found at the Balmora Fighter's Guild. I've got about 4 complete sets of Ebony armor, at least 5 complete sets of Glass armor, the rest of the "Her Hands" armor, Lord's Mail, Cuirass of Savious Hide, a full set of Deadric armor...the list goes on and on. Weapons too. A couple dozen Ebony maces/longswords, Deadric weapons, Glass weapons, special weapons I've found/received through quests. Plus tons and tons of other misc. stuff.

I stole a bunch of stuff real early in the game and got all kinds of armor and weapons that I shouldnt have had early on, so I was able to kill pretty much everything. I got kinda bored of the game but oh well, good times :thumb:

i love this game. It really is very addictive. but, it doesnt work very well on my computer. Every 30 seconds or so, i get an incredibly annoying message thing saying 'Loading Exterior', or interior. It's very stuttery, and nevers runs smoothly. I can normally ignore it though, so its not too bad....Is there any thing i could do to make it run more smoothly, and get less of those stupid messages?

it's flaws are pretty strong.
-bland characters
-bland envirements (ooo, do i want to go see sand, dirt, or maybe a light grassy patch on dirt?)
-useless missions (go deliver this letter to a wizard in a ruin on the opposite end of the continent that you must find on your own, then take his letter, deliver it back to me, go back to him, convince him to do something, go to a town on TOP of the map, find a man there with a certain item, convince him to give you the item, and come back to me. ok, good job, here's 100 gold)
-bland fighting (slash slash slash slash slash slash.....)
-nothing to do after a while (do i want to do a pointless mission, wander around, or kill something?)

Morrowind is a great game. i never got too far on it really, i don't have the time for it. but when i do play it i enjoy it. main flaw for me was the combat, as it is with most RPG's. i think they need to find a way to intergrate the style of combat found in other shoot em' ups etc. into the RPG system. it would just make the games so much more accessible :smoke:

I quite agree. Hopefully the combat is better on Oblivion.

For me the main problem was that it wasn't open-ended enough.
Not best ever, that would be FF7. My friend liked this game when he had a comp, I never saw it as fun though.

Yeah! He's piss drunk when you go to talk to him! And he's a merchant. He gives you face value for items up to 10,000 gold. That's how I got all of my money. I sold a bunch of high value items to him. Him and Creeper (in Caldera) are the only 2 in the game that I know if that will give face value for items.
And yeah...I play it on XBox. I got the regular version 2 years ago and then last christmas I got the GOTY edition. I started another character a little while ago, but I haven't played much. I started a mage character with the goal of completing the entire game without ever picking up a weapon (except where required by the quest of course).

well, i think me playing it for a while was the problem. it took me until AFTER starting 12 characters, joining all the different guilds and houses, leveling up in the wilderness, to realise that i was only leveling up so i could fight bigger monsters and level up on them. i was only completing crappy quests to simply find out what the next quest would be, which also sucked as bad.
all-in-all, this game is good in VERY small doses. i still play it, but only in between other games.
