They gradually got worse IMO, BUT the first 3 are still really close and are all classics. I just listened to BOLA for the first time in one year... good stuff. Tom is such a wicked player. Ashes in the Fall is still my favorite off that cd..

Definately, when he starts whacking off the whammy bar...classic.

I wouldn't call it a classic because not too many people know about it, but it is still awesome.
NP - RATM - Calm Like A Bomb
I just found RATM's four album for sale. S/T, EE, BOLA and Renegades. I am getting them today, for like $40. Score..:) They had the live at Grand A for sale too...but only the CD, I would prefer getting the DVD. ;)

I can't pick which one I like the most. Selft Titled and BOLA are pretty much tired.

I meant classic as in RATM classic, not music in general.

Ahhhh, I see. I still don't think it's even a RATM classic because I've never heard about them playing it at a show before. A real RATM classic would be something like Killing in the Name, Sleep Now in the Fire, Bulls on Parade, Freedom, etc.

Ashes has been played live once, in London. I have the bootleg, not very good quality, but still good. I also have a Darkness (Of Greed) bootleg of when they play in a small record shop in 91. Pretty rare..

Enough ratings already. Anyway Audioslave is coming to town so the local station is having a RATM/Soundgarden/Audioslave weekwnd, but I haven't heard one RATM song yet. Not surprised, that station is terrible.

They didn't before this tour but now they do, I know that they have covered:

Spoonman
Bullet in the head (I think)
I am sure they do some others as well but I can't remember any.

They do an instrumental version of Bulls On Parade
Sleep Now in The Fire
Killing Of The Name
An instrumental version on Bulls on Parade would be rather repetitive and boring.

Saw them last night, they played Testify. :D
I did a quick/small review in the Tool thread..
An instrumental version on Bulls on Parade would be rather repetitive and boring.
After the intro (wah part) they kick right into the solo then carry on from their and end it. At the part with wah right before the drums, the whole crowd went 'COME WIT IT NOW!'. It was the best moment of my life. :p
I love Rage! Brad Wilk is one of my favourite ever too.
That's kind of weird, because Brad Wilk never really did anything that insane with the drums in RATM. He would always lay down solid beats, but I never heard anything from him that made my jaw drop.
Dr. Jake Destructo

He can definitely groove though. Some of his riffs and fills are just perfect. Namely Vietnow.

Just got back from seeing Audioslave. They were ****in awesome. They played Bulls On Parade instrumental and Sleep Now In The Fire. And Killing In The Name for one of the encores. They also played Hunger Strike and a bunch of Soundgarden songs. Practically everyone was standing and head banging to Killing In The Name.. They didn't play Testify to the concert I went to though :(

Really? Sweet!!! :thumb:
In this extraordinary concert, Audioslave performs in front of more than 50,000 fans in Havana, Cuba. Audioslave is the supergroup fusion of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello. They perform songs from their self-titled debut album and upcoming release, Out of Exile, as well as surprise cover versions of Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" and Rage Against the Machine's "Sleep Now in the Fire." Don't miss this opportunity to see Audioslave, the first American rock band to play in Cuba!

I am impressed by the originality of this band.
In addition to that, what did they do to reach that unbelievable high level of groove which appear in many of their songs (ie. Bullet In The Head, Snakecharmer, Bulls On Parade, almost all of them!)
I haven't heard many bands with a similar sense of rhythm.
They are talented, obviously, but could it be 4/4 swing rhythms that I hear opposed to regular 4/4?
Any inputs?

Audioslave is also another groovy group, not very surprising considering it consists of 3/4 of Rage Against the Machine.
There's something about Zack De LaRocha's aggression I like, however, you can't deny the fact that the Audioslave vocalist (Chris Cornell, correct name?) sounds pleasant to the ear. Maybe more so than De LaRocha, but it all depends on what you are aiming for; aggression, musical perfection, creativity. No point in jumping on that discussion.

I don't think it sounds silly. It's a very jazzy intro and it's one of Tim's more difficult basslines on the entire BoLA album.
Rage won't reform. It would go against Zack's beliefs. People could interpret it as "selling out" or "doing it for the money". Zack won't go through with it.

If they did get back together, it would ruin them. If Zack didn't think that speaking at the U.N. or protesting outside of Wall Street and the DNC wasn't effective enough, what would happen from their revival? Nothing in the eyes of Zack. It'd be like they're selling out because they knew they were popular. What is there for them to do anymore? All the other bands have taken political turns, so what could they possibly do? "Show 'em how it's done?"
It'd be like repeating everything someone else has already said. There's nothing for them to be original about right now.

Just to throw in my two cents, I don't think that Rage will ever get back together again. There would be no purpose because both Zack and Tom (the most politically active) are both allready pursuing political goals without using the band.
If they got back together again it would just be to tour. and hey I absolutely loved seeing Black Sabbath live, but quite honestly, when you get to the point that you are a reunion band, you do lose a lot of your relevance to anyone who is not a fan. It would be great to see them live, but Rage were never just about touring. And if their members can't be allowed to attempt something different then they will simply fade into the background with thier legions of fans, but without the means or importance to make their message truly heard.

rage against the machine are my fave band and i listen to every album but sometimes my opinions fluctuate in what i think of as the best.
ST - classics all the way, its got a great rawness to it but sometimes i feel that the production could have been better but as far as one of the greatest debut albums go its no 1 in my opinion
evil empire - brilliant album its in my opinion zach seems to be at his most angry which is great i think tom was amazingly creative using the allen key liste to the solo to snakecharmer
renegades - truly amazing i know a lot of people havent heard it coz its a cover album its more than that its not just a cover album its rage making the songs they love rage it unbelievable. the production on renegades is amzing it is an amzing album. highlights for how i could just kill a man, renegades of funk, in my eyes, the lot its brilliant.
the battle of los angeles - what an album how can people say they dont like this album. the only thing in my opinion is that the first seven tracks are some of the greatest i have heard but the rest arent on the same level which is disappointing still good though.
i think it has to be ST at the moment

Bad news, boys and girls.
At Zacks show last Friday, (see the thread on zdlr.net for details) a guy at the Tom Morello porject website said he met up with Zack and talked to him for a bit. Zack stated that he's just going to live a normal life playing small shows here and there around L.A, and that there will be NO SOLO ALBUM. Tell your friends.

I actually agreed with you, but on this part that would be good. It would take away all the posers who are there because of the trend and leave all the true fans. Still good post.
But the message would be limited, they would be preaching to the converted.
If they were gonna get together, I would say that the best thing would be to do a one off show, for a charity or in support of a cause, do it in a huge venue to, like where they held Rock in Rio, so that they could bring as many people as they could.
As for cause I'd saying restoring the democratic government in Burma is a good one. Perhaps Tibet.

I would definatly be for RATM coming back together for one last tour, i can't see it happenin for another few years though. I've never seen them live, (I was 13 when they played their last concert :upset: ). I'd eat a Babboons *** to see them live and im REALLY Pis*ed off that i didnt see audioslave when they came this year, it'd be the closest thing to RATM. please tell me Audioslave are **** live coz i didn't go because it was a festival and they were the only good band, and i wasnt gonna pay €120 to see them unless it was gonna be REALLY good.
So i think that if RATM got back for a tour it'd give all the people who never got to see them live in the flesh a chance to cum their pants!! I know i would  !!!

Have anyone noticed that Morellos solos with Audioslave arent half as good as the ones he did with Rage? Back then he balanced effects with technical ability, now he seems to be content just wanking off a waa pedal
He still has good solos IMO.

Apocalyptic Raids

Know Your Enemy
Songs:

Vietnow
Bullet In The Head
Wind Below
Solos:

Bulls On Parade

Very good choice, but if you could choose solos from Rage and Audioslave... would the list be the same?
Top 5: No order.
Bulls On Parade.
Take the Power Back.
Darkness.
Guerilla Radio.
Township Rebellion.

Most of the Audioslave stuff just isnt in the same clas IMO, but the solo in Out of Exile is a good un
That's the problem Tom has with Audioslave, what hasn't he done already with RATM?? ...as far as soloing goes anyway. If you listen to "Drown Me Slowly" from "Out Of Exile" the solo is a mixture of the "Bulls On Parade" scratching and a "Take the Power Back" shred.
He has a harder job because he's trying to combine effects more than he used to.
He also has a harder job trying to please us (the fans), because we're expecting these fcking amazin, extremely original solos. Whereas from you're everyday Metal guitarist, you really only expect shredding.
Apocalyptic Raids
01-11-2006, 02:49 PM
I think it is good when he does some more traditional solos every once in a while.

Apocalyptic Raids

I found Live and Rare in a tiny record shop in the Netherlands who has some old guy in a leather vest blasting Dream Theater through some huge speakers.
If looking for it look in small, independant shops which have less customers and therefore more chance of you being the first to buy it. Also be prepared to pay a large sum for it. I payed over 40 Euros.

The DVD Live at Grand Olympic came out, i immediately HAD to see it. I picked it up, and it was everything i hoped a Live concert could be, all that AND a bag of chips. All their best songs were on it, and even the Cypress Hill thing was tolerable (barely). Seeing Timmy C pumpin' the bass in Calm Like a Bomb was amazing. just the pure energy of the crowd got me going.

Haha, I thought that bit was awesome. It is a great show, but I think the best performance is the Battle of Mexico city, that show is insane. Just a shame the DVD wasn't edited to great (over use of fancy camera effects).

I'm of the oppposite mind. 'Audioslave' was the best album a new band from different styles that was still cementing together could release. i agree completely, his voice doesnt give the sheer raw power that Zack gave. For that, and because Rage experimented with guitar and bass effects, and because of Brad Wilk's funk drummin w/ ghost notes, Audioslave will never be as good as Rage

Audioslave (with vocals) is more of a outer world experience with feelings and emotions. More imagery and spiritual lyrics.
Rage Against The Machine, well the main focus of the band was too be political. In which they were, but they used alot of names and places in the songs, because they need to let the listener know just what they are talking about.
Personally I like Zach's vocals more out of the two.

True, I didn't like Audioslave when I first heard them because I saw them as RATM watered down, instead of looking at them as their own band. Now I like them. But RATM will never reunite, IMO. Nah. Outshined, Rusty Cage and Jesus Christ Pose are better than any of the tracks on LTL, but I never really liked anything else off Batmotorfinger.

Hey, whatever happened to Zack?
I remember months ago some n00b made a thread in either the Pit or here saying that he heard Zack got shot close to where he lives. Everyone flamed the hell out of him, like most people here do, but that got me wonderin', what's he up to these days?
Well, I'm out.

Who cares how old they are.
Thats true. But he said it first, I was showing that even 40 year olds can still rock out, RATM style.

^For sure, I mean Maiden still do it.
Morello has got to be one of the coolest guitarists ever, no one else can wear their guitar that high, wear geeky clothes and pull it off.

Morello is so awesome in his Boy Scout shirt in Battle of Mexico City.
And even more awesome for starting the interlude from "Township Rebellion" at the end of "Freedom". SUCH AN AWESOME ENDING TO A SHOW. My fav guitarist.
also please keep audioslave discussion to a minimum, this is a rage thread after all. And NO Soundgarden discussion at all!

Yeah, that part at the end is amazing. I would do almost anything for a chance to see RATM live.

The thing that turns me off about this band is the rapping.

Would you kill a man....
Here is something you just can't understand... how I could just kill a man.
I put Renegades on my comp and the name of the song comes up as "How Could I Just Kill A Man" anyone else get that?
rage is awsome...i started getting into them just as they broke up so i never got to see them live...but then i heard that audioslave was comin to town and they played some rage songs so i jumped on the chance to maybe see part of rage live.... i must say it was awsome...they played instrumental versions of several songs and the whole place lit up and the crowd was all singing the lyrics.....it was beautiful ..lol... to bad the arent together anymore

Who cares how old they are.
I think I worded my post bad, of course they still rock! In fact, I started guitar because of RATM.
I think Zack's working on this solo album, but who knows what's gonna happen with it?
This has been discussed loads. He was making a solo album ages ago. I've heard a song on the radio not long ago which was a Rock song with Zack singing.
Don't think the solo album is happening though.
I also started guitar because of Tom. :chug:

Cool to know.
I think, and this is just mo, if Zack released a solo album, it would blow.

Actually no, but I'll just say that.

I lost faith in Zack ever releasing his solo album a couple of years ago.

Actually I read that Zack made a guest appearance on a couple of songs, on the new Blackalicious cd. Just putting it out there.
About RATM ever regrouping, here's a quote from around the mixing stages of OoE:
Touching on Rage for a moment, did you feel you had seen that band come to its logical musical conclusion?
What happened was very simple, the singer quit the band. Period. Rage Against The Machine was a band until the singer abandoned his comrades on the field of battle.
It's from this really good Tom Morello article off of Ultimate-Guitar.

Tim Commerford also expressed in Bass Guitar magazine that he does not miss RATM and that he thinks Out of Exile is the best album of his career. So RATM are over. Period.

From what I've heard, Zack left because he didn't feel the band was taking enough political action as it should. I respect the man and his work, but that excuse seems oddly fishy. R.A.T.M. is why I love politics. I think they touched the minds and souls of many a teenager and young adult.
R.A.T.M. is one of those bands I listen to while doing my homework/playing a video game/working on the computer and I just wish they were back. I miss the funky riffs, the funky vocals, the kickass bass and guitar and drums...
My biology teacher loves Rage and the main thing he hates about Audioslave is how soft Cornell's voice is compared to the rest of the band. He hears the music, gets pumped, and then Cornell starts crooning and he loses it. He just can't get into it.
Give him the self-titled Rage debut, and he becomes quite possibly one of the most kickass teachers in the state.

That seems like a stupid excuse from Zack, seeing as since he's left Rage he's done pretty much nothing in terms of voicing his political opinions, something he certainly would have been able to do if the band was still together.

My thoughts exactly. Maybe Zack just wanted to get out of it. Maybe he felt as though he could do more without three other people involved.
He obviously cannot.

The amount of times I've bumped this thread to save conversation on my old favorite band is extremely high. It's good to see others bump it to. :)

The link didn't work. Go to ultimate-guitar tabs. Go to the Audioslave tabs. Click on Audislave news. It's the second story.

I always figured it was mostly just tension between Zack and the other three. Mostly bought on from creative differences.
I remember reading an interview with Morello, and he said that for BOLA it was often just the three of them rehearsing and writing, and they would just send stuff to Zack for him to write lyrics.
meh
Did Zack think he'd have a better way to voice his political opinions without one of the biggest Rock bands of our time?
Has anyone heard any "Nightwatchman*" songs? "Until The End" is class.
*Tom Morello alter-ego.
