On the American version of Renegades, the live versions of "How I Could Just Kill a Man" and "Kick Out The Jams" are hidden tracks. The Australian version has them listed.
There's another version of Live & Rare where they have "The Ghost of Tom Joad" as a bonus track, I believe.

the aussie version of Renegades contains 3? extra tracks from the live at the grand olympid audiotorium DVD, only converted into music instead of video
What other song is there?

Live & Rare. I picked it up from Barnes & Noble online.
It's not hard to find, it just contains two "rare" tracks and 10 live tracks. It was used to promote Rage for a tour of Japan.
The two rare tracks are "Darkness" and "Clear the Lane". "Darkness" was used on the soundtrack to "The Crow". "Clear the Lane" was used on their demo tape. It didn't make the cut for the first album, obviously. I wasn't surprised, it didn't really stand out much to me.

I didn't like "Hadda Be Playin' On A Jukebox". It gave some insight into Rage's influences, but it just wasn't Rage. It does make me want to look into Alan Ginsberg, though. I'll do that someday.
I liked "Darkness". It had a nice jazzy feel to it and I hadn't really heard a song like that from Rage before I bought the album.
Oh, and the lyrics booklet murders the lyrics. You gotta laugh at the translator. It just doesn't make sense in some parts.

I never learned all of them except "Bombtrack", "Know Your Enemy", and "Freedom". I didn't even bother learning the entire songs. I just had fun screwing around with my Digitech, which I now hate to use.
I never bothered learning the solos as Morello played them. I improvise a lot, often too much. It's all fun anyway.
How come I don't have them on mine? Mine is the U.S. version.
Well, they come after "Maggie's Farm" but I'm not really sure. I have the American version, and they hid the tracks just by not listing them. I don't know why you don't have them if they're not after "Maggie's Farm". Sorry.

Brad is pretty good, I think. I don't play the drums, but he sounds cool.
For some reason, I've been getting annoyed with Tim on their later basslines. On more than a couple of tracks, he keeps the bassline reserved for the 1-5 frets and usually uses open strings a lot. True, it can make a bassline catchy and nice and fast, and it's really coming up more in Audioslave, but I noticed it first with Rage. I think he did his best work on that first album. I especially liked the "Take The Power Back" bassline.
Anyone else sort of feel this way or am I the only one?

I really think that Tim is one of the better bassists of today. Listen to How I Could just Kill a Man. He plays a couple pretty technical lines on there. It's about as technical as good ol' Tim Bob gets. :p

I gotta admit, the intro to "Calm Like A Bomb" amazed me when I first heard it. I bought the live DVD "The Battle of Mexico City" just to watch him play it, and in doing so, I was exposed to their earlier works and I became a fan.

Dr. Jake Destructo

I've used a pick on "Bombtrack" when I get to play a bass. I can play it on my guitar, but with a bass, I just have to practice with my fingers more when I get the chance.

Yeah I think its pretty easy to...

Shaft!
06-24-2005, 11:48 PM
It is easy, the only thing is that I get tired after repeating it. I kinda wanna switch to the verse nice and fast after once or twice. I don't like to play something like that over and over. Just some weird thing I've got. The reason I have to use a pick is because I have to work on my fingering more for it. My friend is losing his bass because he's moving and so I'll have to invest in a Fender or something.
Bombtrack isn't my favorite off of the s/t anyway. My favorites are "Take The Power Back" for that funky bassline, "Know Your Enemy" for the solo, and "Wake Up" because of that darned Matrix movie.

Even if the basslines are easy, everyone still wants to learn to play them. I want to start working on the bassline to "Darkness" and that is one of the smoothest, jazziest basslines I ever heard from Tim. I figure that if I'm in jazz band, I'l pick it up quickly, but it still sounds cool.

The basslines caught me, and I did find "Year of tha Boomerang" catchy, but once I listened to the s/t(I got it the week after I got E.E.), I wondered why Tom wasn't soloing like he had before. It sounded like more of a rap album to me than rock, although there are obvious rock tracks.
I'm a bit more open to it now. Tom's effects are pretty awesome. Tim's bass is catchy. Brad's drumming gets the beats stuck in my head, and Zack's political rapping got me into politics.

It doesn't cost much. I liked "Tire Me", "Down Rodeo", "Vietnow", "Year of tha Boomerang", and "Revolver" so I'll end up getting it again.

Tim>>>>>Feidly (sp?)
Children of the Korn- Some pops in there drenched with effects
Justin- Flows very well to me, still too low in the mix
Seed- has a creepy feel to it
Cameltosis- more popping/slapping, this time without the effects.
Blind-the little bass in the beginning is just so phat I can't tell you. Also the outro has a latin bassline in there.
Ball Tongue- No need for explanation there, the slapping/popping.

That's only off of two albums. I really must agree with you on Tim > Feildy though.

You guys are comparing too totally different bassists. Sure, they both do some slapping, and use more effects than your every day bassist, but Fieldy isn't really utilized in the typical fashion. He's almost a percussive bassist, really, whereas Tim Bob actually provides the melody occasionally.

However, if I had to be stuck with one's tone and ability, I would take Tim Bob over Fieldy.

I can imagine as to why they got so angry, though. They were being kicked off for promoting their style. They couldn't hang the flag upside down on the amps because of the presidential candidate hosting the show.
Still a brilliant move by Tim. About as brilliant as his move during Durst's speech.

This is my first real account. I've just been on other forums before.
I figure I should bring up Tom, mainly because I think the man is a genuis and he inspired me to start playing guitar. I think he was underrated after he began creating the heavily effected solos he's famous, or infamous, for. His work on the s/t was definately some of his highlight solos, but he always ended up keeping catchy riffs throughout his entire career. I wonder what made him want to just use sounds as solos to begin with. I understand he wanted a more unique sound, but it's hardly unique after so long. This is probably why he's gone back to melodic solos rather than effects, but I've always been curious as to why he wanted his solos like how they were.
I was wondering if maybe he was trying to create the sounds of chaos to bring the point across over each composition. Hendrix did the same thing for his Woodstock performance of the National Anthem. I've wondered if that was why he did it, other than the need to give a more unique sound.

I think there's another reason to it though. I should start buying these guitar mags where they interview him and Tim. I bet my answers are in there.
Then again, you most certainly could be right. I'd just think it was an expression of chaotic rage expressed through sounds of...well, chaos.
I think it'd be cool if he did his own version of the National Anthem. I'd like to hear that.

Defniately "TTPB". That bass riff was awesome, and after my friend compared it to some of the RHCP's basslines, I got into them. I also checked up on some Jaco, whom I believe Tim does list as an inspiration. I'll have to double check.
I like his one jazz bass. I think it's a Fender '72 in natural finish with black block inlays and black binding on the neck. He took the pickguard off, I believe. I really wanted a bass after I saw that. It looked beautiful to me. I wish they'd give him a signature edition from Fender. I think with the number of fans he's gained through Audioslave and Rage, it'd sell quite well. Built to his specifications, of course.

I gotta say, I like the performance of "Take The Power Back" and "Settle for Nothing" off of that album. I like "Darkness" too.
I really wish they hadn't used "Hadda Be Playin' It On A Jukebox" for that album. That and "Clear the Lane". The poem is a nice reference towards their political influences and influences overall, but it doesn't seem to represent Rage. I think that's why I'll buy the s/t DVD because Zack recites an original poem he wrote, right?
"Clear the Lane" was scratch from the demo for the s/t. It had good bass, a good solo, but the sound wouldn't have worked well if they used it on the s/t. I've even mixed it in the playlist for the s/t in Windows Media. It just doesn't work for me.

Japanese translators. I wrote my first review for this C.D. and I mistook the first comment as a polite attack on a comment I made in the "cons".

"All your government is belong to us

Nice review"

But essentially, I said it was terrible because the Japanese translators didn't know english well enough to transcribe everything correctly.
But it was a promo for a concert of Japan, so as long as they got the idea of "we're good", I think they were satisfied.

What's everyone's favourite custom Morello guitar?

I love that one with the design of the Kenyan flag on it. Don't know the brand.

I learned two very important things from that video:
1) MuchMusic better put that spotlight on again or I'll burn them down, and
2) System Of A Down stole the helmut thing from that video and not to mention half the lyrics of B.Y.O.B. are from War Pigs.

Also does anybody have the Sleep Now In The Fire video?
I'd like it please.

That's an Ibanez Talman, if I remember the article from whatever magazine I was reading.
My favorite one is his "Arm the Homeless" guitar, followed by his "Soul Power" Strat and his Les Paul.

Ditto for the "Sleep Now in the Fire" vid.

Of all the guitars he has...I can only remember a few.
-Fender Telecaster, Made in Mexico
-Fender Strat, I'm sure this one was custom made. Actually not an Aerodyne, but with different hardware.
-Ibanez Talman, the Kenya flag colored one.
-Ibanez Hollowbody, used for Guerrilla Radio
-Gibson Les Paul
-Gibson Double Neck
-His "Arm the Homeless" guitar. Someone help me here, the headstock design looks like a Jackson. Can anyone confirm that or tell me what it really is?

Adding on to that, I think he uses a Fender Jaguar when they played Calm Like a Bomb during Live At the Grand Olympic Auditorium.

I was wrong. It's a custom made by a professional in California.
The design was originally like a Stratocaster and they decided to take it to another level.
I was correct on the Talman.
Never saw him with a Jag for "Calm Like A Bomb". I'm gonna really have to buy that DVD. The one he used for BoMC had a cool and funky headstock, which is all I remember it for.

The "No Shelter" vid is my favorite. I like how it's set up. The "Testify" vid is sorta weird, but it works as an "anti-Bush/Gore" statement.

Ok, I'm gonna hunker down and try to record KITN tomorrow. I had some time to do it today, but I chose to record a solo. Tommorow is July 4th, so I may be busy, but hopefully I can get something done for you guys. :)

The wah-pedal is used the whole song, except the beggining riff thats played at both the beggining and the end. Mainly its just pushing it all the way forward or all the way back.

On a Rage related note...
I'm listening to "Mindset's A Threat" from LimeWire and it's...different.
Zack sounds like he's trying to mimic a Jamaican accent. The song is so slow compared to a lot of Rage's work.
Tom's solo is excellent. Starts out bluesy then bam, serious shredding.
Nothing defining by Tim, or Brad.
I'm downloading "Degeneration X" right now. It doesn't sound like Zack at select points. Did Rage really do this? I'm skeptic.

Zoom > Digitech.

I can't stand the tones that you get from a Zoom pedal. Sure, they may be less expensive, but with my Digitech pedal, I can get very solid definitive tones. Plus, my RP300A has a built in Marshall JMP900-Same amp as Morello.
