I like Evil Empire,
If not as much as the debut or Battle Of Los Angeles.:)

IMO, Evil Empire>ST>Renegades>Battle of L.A

I really like Revolver. "Hey revolver, don't mothers make good fathers?" Cool lyric I'd say. Nice riff as well. First riff I learned off of Evil Empire, if I'm remembering correctly. I also really like the breakdown right before the solo, where it's just random string mutes. :P
I'd probbably say Renegades is the worst, out of the other 3 I couldn't choose a favourite.
By worst I mean "not the best" if you understand..

For me: Rage Against the Machine, Battle of Los Angeles, Evil Empire, and I haven't heard Renegades. :upset: Maybe I'll get it off of Amazon or something.

Hmm..
I dunno, Battle of L.A is a more enjoyable listen.
Renegades is a bit slapdash if you understand.
I like the song Renegades Of Funk though,

I really liked battle of LA, i think renegades was their worst although it still kicked ***. By the way, i was in camden (London) the other week and i picked up this 'Civilian demos' cd. Its pretty cool and its got a good few which audioslave never did, i just wanted to know if its really common in the US or not and whether anyone else has got it or if it really really rare and i got a really good bargain. (for anyone who's totally lost at the moment, Civilian is what audioslave called themselves before they called themselves that). My favorite track of it is monstereo, i can't believe that didn't make into audioslave.

Why? Just wondering.
IMO it was a decline from Evil Empire and the S/T, which were top of the list albums. BoLA still is a good album, it just doesn't compare to the other 2, and Renegades as well for that matter. The singles were poorly done by the band, and the sound of RATM just wasn't as good as they were before.
This could be argued with, and I'm sure it will be, but BoLA could've been a lot better if they just took more time and put more quality into it. (still a good album though, don't get me wrong there)

BOLA was my first rage album, and I loved it at the time. It just got "old" faster then the others. Theres just not as many good songs on it, the first 6 are amazing 7 sucks 8 was ok 9 sucked 10 was ok then 11 and 12 kicked major *** but they lose to many points from 7-10. These are just my thoughts though.

Great song. I'd say one of my top 3 off of Battle of Los Angeles. Along with Testify and Ashes in the Fall.
Anybody diggin the double octave whammy effect on Ashes in the Fall? Very cool.

Ashes In The Fall is one of my favorite songs by anyone. Blasting the last minute and a half of that at full volume through headphones is great, it's so aggresive.

And Take the power back doesn't stick in my head as easily as other songs do for some reason.
At the moment my favourite Rage song has to be "Know Your Enemy"
Allthough it was written a while ago, the lyrics still actually mean something.

I love RATM's power.
Brad Wilk is on my Top 5 Favourite Drummers List.
As for my favourite album, don't have one, when it comes to RATM. :thumb:
Audioslave are also good, but of course, don't have that power nor energy, drumming is pretty lazy on the self titled album.

The sound isn't why they were great live. Try atmosphere and things along those lines. You can't capture it on a live recording which is why they don't apear to be very good.

i personally think everything they did was pure genius... RATM is and always will be my favorite band... they are the one band that if i get sick of my other 124 cds i can just pop in some RATM and be perfectly satisfied with what i hear... favorite album prolly Battle of L.A. for me... however favorite song is prolly No Shelter... or the Minor Threat cover they did on Renegades... the title is slipping my mind at the moment... but i liked it either way... by the way... my name Arm_theHomeless... Arm The Homeless is what is written on one of Tom Morello's guitars...

Inside Out was pretty good too, I bought No Spiritual Surrender. If youre into hardcore/punk check them out Zach's old straight-edge hardcore band.
As for RATM being considered rap-rock, everyone who listens to rap at my school hates RATM and most people who listen to rock don't like them either because they hate the singer...I like them their very unique.
I don't understand why Zach/Tom are into Marxism/Communism/Anarchy and are on a major-label, do you think RATM would have been a better band without a major-label on their back? I do think so, but then again, this band was pretty big and I don't know what independent label they would've went on.

Why did Rage not release songs like; Darkness, Clear the Lane, Autologic...?
These songs are excellent and contain some of the few amazing shred type solos Tom performs.
I think they were on the "Live & Rare" album but I'm not sure... Anyone know?
Anyways people need to start talkin in this o'l RATM Thread... :chug:

Hmmmmmm thats a hard one to say. I wouldn't go as far as saying they kicked their ***. They are two different bands really, but with the same energy, MC5 was always more of a punkish rock band and RATM is more of a rapish rock band (or rockish rap band, depending on the song).

Rage is just an amazing band. Musically they get use thier sound to drive home the point they are trying to make and use alot of dynamics to achieve this. I would have LOVED to have been able to go to some of the "Super Shows" in the early 90's when Rage and Tool were not as big as they are to watch thier shows. Amazing band.

It was originally a custom, and he pretty much pulled it apart and re-did it from scratch. If my memory serves correctly.
Although Ibanez did make him a copy of it for back-up purposes.

On a school camp, I was aimlessly walking around in the hall... and then I had a sudden urge to jump. Jump, and scream HOLY SHIAT!!! Jump and scream ROCK DIS MUTHAFUKKA!!!
I then went to one of my friends "man... what was that riff!" and he says "Know Your Enemy by RATM... you haven't heard it before?"
Went home.. downloaded song, and after about 3 listens it became extremely bland.
LAN, a few months later. "Oh come on, they're not bad. I'll get em". I got all studio albums except for Battle For L.A.
Listened to a few songs from self-titled. Same blandness.
Listened to Evil Empire. My mind was blown. One of the most excellent albums ever.
Now self-titled has grown a tad, and I enjoy them much more. Evil Empire can't be beat for fun and anger.

I agree I mean at the very least I wished that Audioslave would have done somthing political, one of my dissopointments with the band.
But there are plenty of bands that talk about political issues, you just need to open up to Punk Rock (not that pop punk **** on the radio, I mean the real ****).
And eh I get the impression that Green Day put out that political cd just to "be a cool punk band and hate Bush" I don't think their hearts were truly into it. If they were they why no political message for so long when countless other punk bands have been fighting the good fight.

I think that their S/T was easily their best album as well...I know a lot of Rage fans think Evil Empire is their best work, but personally I'd say that's their weakest studio album of original material. I don't know about Rage being all that original...they were influential, and there's no two ways about that, but they got quite a lot of their act from Public Enemy in my opinion, albeit with heavier riffs, which the emphasis was normally on.
I agree about the S/T being the best, and Evil Empire being the weakest. From song to song, it's very incosistent. I really don't like Zack's vocals on that album. At some points, it sounds to me like he is trying to sing(lol) lower than he should. Also, it's definitely their rawest album musically. Morello's riffs are choppy, and he uses way too many effects, IMO.

No, that was the creamy and black coloured guitar that he used on Calm Like A Bomb live.

That's how i view The Battle Of Los Angeles. I find that as Rage progressed in their career, Morello used more and more effects. Comparing the more heavily effected BOLA and the more straight forward s/t shows this.

It has grown on me to quite a large extent. I don't like Zack's screams though, especially the ones in Freedom.

And Vio-lence, about how you think Morello used more and more effects, I think the same thing, however on BoLA, I think he refined his riffs more. On Evil Empire they're just kind of, well like I said, choppy. I am finding it hard to explain what I am trying to say, but I hope you know what I mean.

I don't mind Audioslave. I throw the cd on once in a while, but ofcourse the only reason i got into them was because of my RATM roots =}
Morello's tone (the big, phat sound he +timmy, get, everyone know what i'm talking about) goes well with the Cornello's voice. Besides, Cornello's a great singer hands down, so i usually don't care much for the lyrics and listen to that relation. Guitar and Voice.
But yeah, definetely like 'em...
But back to RATM, gotta love Evil Empire...so many good tracks on there that people just don't seem to give a chance. Down Rodeo, Boomerang, People of the Sun, Bulls, Without a Face, gah...almost the whole thing.
It's guessing thats its not liked because its overshadowed by other RATM classics, but that might just be me.

I wasn't all that impressed with the new song which I heard the other day though. To me it sounded like some of the blandest moment on the debut album.

I'd prefer to do Killing in the Name. The effects are easy enough to pull off (just whammy) and it's fun to play. SNitF is harder because the solo is basically a one off solo. I could just tab it out instead of using feedback. Testify is also hard due to the extensive amount of effects and such, mainly in the verse and solo.
my vote goes for KitN, as of now. I could do BoP, but that would take some toying with for the solo. I'd have to try and work out the pickscratching on the solo. :p

You would think I could find someone, being that I am from a town where the population is 3/4 hispanic, but I don't know any.

Alright thanks. Be sure to palm mute those muted strings. :D Lay down the drums first, then I'll do the guitar once I have the drums to play with. Then the bassist will the bass.
As for vocalist, there is someone I can ask who could do an extremely good job of it, but whether or not he'll agree to do it is a different story. But I'll ask.

RATM are the reason I got into rock and metal.
S/T is without a doubt my favorite, followed by Battle of LA and then Evil Empire.
Tom Morrello is a somewhat underrated guitar player, and Zack deserves more credit for his lyrics.
"It's set up like a deck of cards
They're sending us to early graves
For all the diamonds
They'll use a pair of clubs to beat the spades"
From Freedom has to be my favorite lyrics from him. Ever try to decode the message?
I understand it to mean that the diamonds = rich people
Clubs= police who beat the poor/working class people(spades, also means shovels) at the rich's commands

Zacks best lyrics are on Evil Empire IMO.

I'd say that my personal favorite RATM lyrics are from Ashes in the Fall. That song is just so powerful. The double octave whammy and the lyrics just create such a forboding atmosphere. It's one of my favorite RATM songs, methinks.

You know I actually think that...
Rage Against The Machine > Evil Empire > The Battle Of LA
Freedom is the best song especially "Anger is a gift!"
Some stupid idiots in the SOAD thread think Daron Malakian is beter than Tom Morello.

they're pretty pissed @ me now.

I know one can have his own opinion, but that poor soul must be on more drugs than Daron himself. :p

Darons a joke compared to Tom IMO. Alot less creative, rarly solos, uses drop C# tuning, riffs aren't as good etc. Toms just an all around better player. Daron doesn't suck though.

I just got Toms amp EQ settings, and I'm ganna set it up to get a good Tom tone tomorrow.
When can we expect to see the drums?
Dr. Jake Destructo

Wanna share those settings?
I've got a pretty good tone as far as gain and effects. Gain and chorus sounds a lot like him for some odd reason. The EQ settings are way off though, so that would help lots.

well, I can get his tone control from a GuitarOne issue. It has "Killing in the name" tab.
That is if you guys want it.

- I really Rage Against The Machine. But I don't like Zack Dellaroach (however you spell his name), he's an *** hole and isnt doing **** for his career now. Unlike the rest of the members who are in Audioslave with Scott (the lead singer of Soundgarden). Rage only had like two really good albums, their first self titled one and Battle of Los Angles. I didnt really like the others. But I like both the new Audioslave cd's.

Their S/t, Evil Empire, and Battle of LA are amazing albums. Though I'll admit I didn't like Renegades as much, it was still decent. And who cares what Zack's doing now, that doesn't mean he wasn't a big contributer to the band in their time.

I would prefer to do a RATM song that is more hip hop than heavy, I would do better vocals that way.

I'm cool with Vietnow, that's got lots of hip hop in the verse.
