Well here's a thread to discuss anything going on with baseball, except steroids, because there is baseball news than the steroids issue.
Some notable baseball news:
Diamondbacks signed Russ Ortiz
D'backs sign Troy Glaus
Cubs re-signed Nomar
Red Sox signed David Wells
Angels sign Steve Finley
Brewers trade Danny Kolb to the Braves for a minor league player, which will move Smolts to the Rotation.
Carl Pavano close to signing with the Yankees.
Red Sox close to signing Edgar Rentaria.
Discuss.

Marlins sign Al Leiter to replace (to an extent) Carl Pavano.

I'm so happy the Red Sox are getting some people, did they re-sign Varitek, Pedro or Lowe yet?

No, no, and no. But Varitek and Pedro are supposed to be close.

That's good, can't lose them. Lowe would be nice to keep but I think the Sox could manage without him.

Since they did just get Wells.

!!!!!
Smoltz in the rotation again! That gives me warm memories.
And Pavano is close to signing with EVERYBODY. I don't get the hype though. He's a guy that underachieved every year except his contract year.
The Cubs also re-signed Todd Walker.
The Phillies overspent to get Jon Lieber (3 years/$21 mil), and to replace him the Yankees overspent to get Jaret Wright (3 years/$21 mil for a guy who was in a contract year and had Leo Mazzone).

He is very hyped, but he said winning is his #1 priority, and of all of the teams interested, the Yankees give him that opportunity.

Pavano is hyped because he has the ability to dominate (see 2003 playoffs and World Series), and is an innings eater.

He's good, I didn't say he was over-hyped, I'd love to see him as an Oriole, but he's not a top-tier pitcher. Yet, I guess.

My post was to Disconnection Notice because he said he didn't get the hype.

Ah, well either way he should be in an Orioles uniform and not pin-stripes. :(

Every team is bending over backwards to get him. When he goes 9-15 next year with an ERA of 4.92, I'll laugh.
Overall, this is a weak FA pool. Delgado, Beltran, and Ordonez are the only free agents I'd feel comfortable about paying top dollar for.

It's highly doubtful he will get worse, since his mechanics and pitches have improved since early in his career. He has filthy stuff.
