I dont know if some of you noticed, but I havent been on the site in a really long time because me and my band have just started really getting into it. I got a new drummer and wrote a couple of kick-*** songs that I really want to produce...and the farthest Ive gotten was getting into a local recording studio for free(but only for a very select amount of time) because I have conections.
Anyway I really feel that I have a potiential career, and Im not the cocky type that think every **** song they write is the next huge thing. I would just like some tips about what direction I should be going in now. Thanks! :thumb:

First of all - practice your arses off!!! It won't matter how good your songs are on paper or in your head unless you can pull them off live. Once you feel the songs are as tight as possible, look into getting some studio time booked and get a demo done.

Then find out names and numbers of all the local places that have gig nights for unsigned bands and send your demo in to them. If they like you, you'll get a call back and be asked to play.

Repeat ad nausium for the rest of your life :thumb:

and don't sign ANYTHING until a lawyer has checked it out

My guitar teacher learnt that one a bit too late, to his peril...

I agree with gigging, but I think it's worth promiting through media if you think you can handle it. Talk to EVERY local radio station, apply to advertise your EP (if u have one) on a newspaper page, ask websites kindly to put your websites banner on their website, posters, bus side poster things.. posters flyers, heck even tv. I suppose money comes into play but if you realllly think you have 'it' then i suppose you will be willing to sacrafice!

And of course! Don't forget to send your bands 'stuff' into every record label you know of, no matter how small or big. To be more specific I recommend making a small package with stuff like, a demo of your music, a page with info about each member and your bands history.. Someone once told me to emphasise small things about each member. i.e.

Joe bloggs and his natural ability to keep time, provides an essential backing umph to the bands so and so and yar yar..
