WOW! What a great guitar! About two weeks ago i drained out my savings account and bought one. I honestly recomend this guitar to anyone who is serious about being in a band. The tone and bottem end on this guitar is amazing. And it came with a fancy "Gibson USA" hardshell case with a numeric locking system.
here are some specs:
490R and 498T alcino magnet humbuckers (beautiful)
Mahogny Neck
Rosewood freatboard
tune-o-matic bridge
3 way switch
gold hardware
red wine finish

Personally, i am not a gibson kind of guy, i find jay tursers to be better once you get new tuners and pickups on them...i think gibsons quality is slowly going down the drain. they are turning into fender. but anwaya in my opinion the best gibson you can get is a Les Paul Standard, studios (IMO) are crap, and customs are too ..i cant think of a word but they bother me and wouldnt recommend a gibsons, and if you are going to get one get a standard. studios feel like they are going to fall apart, and customs feel too pretty to play so standards feel sturdy but you wont be upset if it gets a little ding or a scratch
Customs are crap? becasue they "feel to pretty to play"..... thats just retarded.
anyway i personally think the Epiphone Customs and Elites are just as good if not better than the Gibson Classics and Studios, but i would take a Gibson Std or custom over any Epiphone of course. and Jay Turser guitars are terrible quality, they are set up bad and no attention to detail is put into them in my opinion.

Buy an epi custom and upgrage the pickups...better that any gibson studio but falls slighty short against other gibsons. unless you have thousands to splash out on a gibson standard, classic or custom, buy a epiphone custom...

don't like gibson??starting to turn into fender? you actually prefer jay turser?what is wrong with you????? fenders and gibson are top notch IMO and i have a jay turser and its not horrible but i also have fender and there is absolutely no comparison

personally, i can see a big difference in quality of construction between the Studios and The Standards. just look at the wood at where the neck and fingerboard are attached, it isn very appealing to the eyes on the studios

i havent played both long enough to decide on how close they are in sound

I have a studio and love it. In just normal play (distortion or clean) they sound about the same (no guitars sound completely alike) . I sort of didn't have the extra grand to put on top of the 1250 I paid for my les paul, but I dont mind. I dont like any of the finishes the standards come in(creme binding is ugly, I would like a white one for the ebony). The pick ups are the same. The difference is the quality of wood and the cut of the top as well as the finish. Of course I would take a standard over a studio, (2000 or 1250, you pick) but think the studio is top quality and has enough features to be used for live professional play.

you probably have a lower model turser then, im not saying they are the best guitars in the world, i just prefer them over gibsons, and yes gibson is turning into fender...they seem to have adopted fender's motto of "quantity, not quality". my turser is a JT-200DLX QMT thats a lot of crazy numbers and letters but its insanely beautiful with sound to match...mine was set up PERFECTLY from the factory (and im picky) i changed out he pickups not because they were bad, but because i wanted MORE. so i put in a tremonti trebel and put some other pickup in the bridge...its a duncan..i dont know the model or whatever. its all personal preference, but i would recommend a higher model turser over a lower end gibson any day.
and no i did not mean customs are too pretty to play....and yes i think most gibsons are crap, i dont think customs are crap, but i hate the way gibsons feel over all...the standards are nice, but everything else gibson slaps together feels horrible to me. like i said its my personal preference and i was passing MY opinion onto the thread starter because thats what he wants..other peoples opinions. so how about you flame someone for posting a GOOD post that was actually helpful.

The only thing i dont like about les pauls is that its hard to play them sitting down because of all the weights at the bottum.

Man i've never heard of it! And I would never buy it, but the auction is over so it's ok!
Hahaha, made in the same factory as Ibanez. Yeah, in the store rooms? The bathroom? Nah it isn't that bad, I would take it if it was for free though :thumb: .

I wanted a Gibson Les Paul, but after playing a Strat for a few years I decided that the Standard was too heavy, so I got a Studio Plus, which is just a lighter version of the Standard with no binding. All Studios are great guitars but I got the Studio Plus because it looked really nice and I got it used for a reasonable price.

I have a '97 Les Paul DC Studio that is far and away my #1 gigging guitar. It takes a beating and sounds great! And it was cheap enough ($700 out the door) that I don't worry about it like I would my PRS...
I'd buy another if they were still making them.

i got a great deal on a honeyburst :naughty: gibson :naughty: les paul classic, funny story. i bought a bass for £250, never used it, and sum guy had bought a les paul classic but couldnt play it so his mates says that really he shud try bass playing. i saw his add in the paper and the bass that he wanted was acctualy the one that i had, so in the end i ended trading a £250 bass for a £2000 :naughty: gibson :naughty: les paul. :thumb:

If you can get get a good Gibson, they're awesome guitars. They're a hit and miss though in the Standard and Custom lines. I played a Gibson 'Root Beer' Les Paul Standard at a local shop some weeks ago, and it was without a doubt one of the worst guitars I ever played. The frets were terrible and and very uneven with a couple of sharp edges, the binding on the neck looked like it was done by a blind man, it weighed more than any LP I ever played (telling me that it's the cheap, dense mahogany from the bottom of the tree vs the good stuff that's found near the top) with probably a piece of maple sandwiched in the middle. It was a terrible guitar. I played an LP Custom at the same shop a while before, and it was terrible too, although not as bad.
I've never played a bad LP Studio though. Every one I've played to date has been great.

I went to a music shop to try Ibanez and Jacksons, but couldn't resist trying a Gibson LP Studio. Of course, i fell in love with the sound so i got it.

IMO Standered> Studios
Studios lack somthing your pretty much paying for the gibson name, the quality is probally about the same as Epi Elitist and if you changed the pickups in one of them it would probally be better and cheeper than a Gibson. THen again you may be like me and rather have Gibson on the headstock rather than Epi.

yep, thats me!
If you say to your mate "oh i got an epiphone" they wont be impressed because they are just (good) copies. Whereas when i said i was gettin a gibson, my mates were like "oh wow, you lucky ****"

The Studio IS a real Gibson. Epiphone also make a Studio, but it's a copy of the higher end Gibson model. xshowoff has a Gibson.
And when it comes to quality, the Gibson LP Studio is as good as the more expensive models. It will often have dot inlays vs the trapezoid / block inlays, and no body and neck binding. The body is also thinner, which IMO, makes it more comfortable to play. And the neck joint on the Studio is thinner, making the upper frets easier to reach thatn the Standard or Custom. The Studio is also slightly lighter.

I own a Les Paul studio (ebony) and i love it, wouldn't trade it for the world (except maybie a standard) Anyway it kicks *** against any non-gibson and if you have the 2500 to spend on a standard great, if not a studio is kick ***
