OK, heres the situation. My guitarist and drummer are up in Fresno right now, but they are recording our demo. Obviously I'm not going to be on it, so its bassless. Well, is it possible to copy the songs onto the computer when I get the cd, then record bass onto them? Anyone know of any programs that can do that? If so, it would really, really help us out. Thanks.

You probably can, but a few problems may arise.
If you don't record your bass in the same way, then the different recording may show up on the final product, buzzing , peaking e.t.c.

You can do it with audacity, but the results won't be the same as if you went into the studio again and added the bass like that.

If you get the "data" CD from your producer (if he has one), it can be opened as separate tracks. We were able to do this, and edit it with an Adobe program (I'll get back to you on the name, can't remember it off the top of my head). This is probably the best solution, but your producer may not have a CD like this available, as he may have a different recording style than the one we used.
Otherwise, you can do what Kocaine suggested and just record on your comp along with the CD (which you can do with any mp3/CD etc., by the way).
Good luck.

Is there no chance you can get back into the studio at a later date and finish it?
If not, then i'd find out how the demo is being recorded - what software is being used etc. I think most (profesional) studios now use ProTools for recording, but I may be wrong. If that's the case, you'll be forced to use a cheaper program to finish it off as I'm pretty sure ProTools is not regularly available to consumers.
Audacity is good, but i'd recommend ripping Cubase from Kazaa. It really is the beez neez :thumb:
