When I sing it sounds almost identical to my speaking voice.... why is this so?

sing from your tummy. Go to the little merkaba voice hotline thingy and it has something on it

Maybe it is because you talk when you sing?

You're probably trying to control your sound with your throat, instead of singing with a throat that feels tension free and controlling your sound from your diaphragm. This would limit your range, and give you a tight, talky feel, among other things.

I have the same problem.

Kristina, you just reminded me that I need to ask my friend to give me some tips on singing.

Don't worry about it, if you've ever heard of the band Cake, their singer basically just talking. But if you really want to change it listen to the other people's advice.

you cant just wake up and start singing. Just like everything else you gotta practice. I sing for my band and its taken me a little time to be able to hit those notes you need for 80s metal.

Well speaking talking is not that bad when you sing. There's a great band you should listen to where the singer just talks. the band is "Me without you" they are one of the greatest bands ive listened to and seen live.

Sometimes when I sing I can tell I am using my throat, now this will sound dumb and weird but how do you use your belly or diaghram? I'm tryin to find a way to practice my singing because i recorded myself singing and I SUCK! lol, but I think i could be pretty good.

well maybe your "sing-talk" is just your normal singing voice. the thing is you are probably comparing yourself to those great bands who have professional singers. (some of them!) you know you cant sound like them (no one can, well.... with the exception of a few people) Find a style that suits you, and practice.

Well, I just sound crappy, it's not that I sound like I'm talking.

How do you not use your throat...

Looks like Tim needs to take vocal lessons.
