I write all my own music and record it and stuff and I feel the next step is being able to sing....but at the moment I cant

And I'm really not confident enough to learn

:upset:

Any advice?

Read the "Singing 101" thread. Also, only practice when no one else can hear you, because if you do, you have nothing to be ashamed of.

Just remember that everyone had to start somewhere, All the singers you repsect had to begin their learning process somewhere too.

As the other poster said, just sing when no-one is around, and just sing with all the enthusiasm you can, If you sing weakly through shyness, then it will sound bad and only perpetuate your shyness.

Yea, what everyone else said, and...for a kick in the pants....

Stop being a wuss!
Either you want to be a vocalist or not. Life is short. Decide

If you dont have the mental switch that gives an instant "who gives a shlt" type of mentality...then practice is the only thing that will give you confidence.

Yeah, Just go for it, Every second you put it off, Is another second you will have to make up for when it comes to practicing.
Go for it, and Good luck.

I used to be just like you. I was far too nervous to sing in front of people
eventually i tried it

I am a utterly sh!te singer, and i don't think any amount of practice is gonna change that

But who gives a rats arse? I can still play guitar, and have a future as a "tour technician"...

My singing sucks, but its getting better. And i used to be shy. I started just not caring who heard me because as stated, i had to start somewhere. Just don't think about them hearing you, just be yourself, and let all hell break loose.

dude i think this probably happend to every one here,it used to be the same for me too. just go for it and dont be scared wut others think, i thinking im a shtty singer but a lot of other singers in my school sing like the girl from new found glory. that gave me some wut confidence, so then i was like "screw it, i dont think they are shy bout wut they sound like, why should i."

I think it's important never to hold back, especially where music is concerned. It's one of the most expresive and creative things we as human beings can do, so if you hold back you may never realise your true potential :)

Well, sing alone in your room. That's what I did. And record yourself. Listen to what you've done. Ignore the voice in your head that says "oh my god that SUCKS" and listen for WHAT sucks.

As to singing in public. The best way is to sing with someone else to begin with. There's a tad less pressure that way. I sang at lots of jam sessions and Karaoke with others before I tried a solo. And I still shook. My first few times up there I was SURE my knees would go out. The didn't. And most of the people thought the tremble in my voice was on purpose!

If you WANT to sing. Do it. In the shower, in the car, (although you should really sing standing up if you're trying to teach yourself good singing habits). I love to sing. Stopping me would be impossible. You can sing and never sing in front of another person, and it doesn't matter if you love to sing.

Confidence isn't not caring what people think. Confidence is when you know you are doing your best, you KNOW the song, and you've sung long enough to know ya don't sound half bad. I care what the audience thinks, why else would I sing on a stage? If I didn't want that affirmation, that applause, I wouldn't be up there, I'd be at home singing to the radio.
