Ok for recording into your computer your going to need to get a mixer that has about 5 or 6 imputs, Next your going to need to get 2 micraphones for the drums into the mixer. your def going to need software to record from the mixer. Iam useing Cool edit pro 2 it will cost you arrounf 200$ for the soft ware but it wil be worth it in the end. Your going to need a pair of headphones to plug into the mixer to controll effects to see what it will sound like. and your going to need a bunch of blank cds and maby pick up on some reading abou mixers and stuff and you will be all set

Use audacity as a program, It's free, and great, it will serve you perfectly for this purpose.
When buying your mixer, You will need to remember what kind of mics you want to use with it.
It is always best to use mics with XLR connections, Jack inputs for mics just doesn't cut it and you get alot of background noise in the mic such as buzzing.
The Behringer UB1202 is about £60 and has 4 XLR inputs.
This is enough to mic a kit.
Secondly, Mics come in two types, Those that need phantom power, and those that don't.
The mixer will have a phantom power option for the condenser mics that need phantom power.
At your range you are probably best using cheap mics.
The Superlux DRK-A4 kit http://www.baldbeat.com/shop/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=243
Will be great for micing the drums and it is amazingly cheap too, there is a link to the sound on sound review of that kit at the bottom of the page.

you go out of the outputs of your mixer into the input of your soundcard in the computer.

you go out of the outputs of your mixer into the input of your soundcard in the computer.
That output usually consists of RCA connections or 1/4" connections. You probably just have 1/8" connections, so you'll need to find a 1/4" female to 1/8" male connection for your cable. You can find this at Radio Shack for a few bucks.
[mics]--XLR-->[mixer]--1/4"-->[computer]
