My band is reforming, and is better than ever. We plan on doing several Battles this upcoming year. One of our objectives is shut down this cocky band that needs a reality check. Above that though, we want to leave an impression on the audience so they remember us. What are some things that would really pump the audience and the judges up?

Wow, this is a dumb thread. Do what you would want to hear if you were in the audience.
By the by, registered Dec 01 and you have 23 posts?

Play some stuff legatto and hold the guitar up to your face so it looks like you're playing with your teeth :thumb:
You can always put up some horns with your free picking hand too.

I posted this in a similar thread
Crowd communication is the key. You didn't mention if you have had other gig experience, so I will assume that you haven't any.
1. Practice, Practice, Practice!! If you have originals, know them top to bottom. If you are playing covers, make sure you either completely change them up, or keep them almost exactly the same. Otherwise people with think you don't know how to play the song. As for covers to choose, do something fun that the crowd will love, like "Basket Case" or "When I Come Around". Really easy songs (hopefully they are easy for you), but they can get the crowd going.
2. While on stage, look like you are having fun. It isn't necessary to jump around or headbang while performing a ballad... but no one wants to see 4 John Entwistles (sp) on stage. Move around, bop your head etc. This will make the crowd want to bop to the music too.
3. If you screw up, keep going. Hopefully your band has enough experience to know this, but remember: with originals, nobody knows exactly how they go if you are a new band. If your singer forgets the words, they won't know the difference. Just don't act like he forgot the words.
That's all I've got for now... just have fun and enjoy yourself

I like that. Then we only get people saying something when they have to.

I think the first thing to do, Is to get the want to shut down the other band out of your heads.
I know it is annoying to have to work with people with massive ego's, but delibrately setting out to beat them isn't what the battle of the bands is about.
It is about seeing who can work the crowd best, It is very rare that cocky bands win these things, or even get applause in gigs.
As for pumping up the audience, Get them involved, talk to them inbetween songs, walk around the crowd and sing with them, headbang with them e.t.c.
The key is to make the crowd feel you are there friend, there is nothing crowds love more than to have a band friend.

involve the crowd, use mini pyrotechnics, and if you wanna go for impressing them do lil stunts like jumps and guitar spins. but most of all, sound incredible..

Don't bother wasting your time with all that flashy crap - it's more important that you're well rehearsed and comfortable with all the songs in your set. Get everything as tight as it possibly can be and the audience will respond.
With lots of practice comes familiarity, with familiartiy comes confidence, and with confidence you will win the crowd over :)

Very true, It's easy to assume that Rammsteins live gigs are only good because of pyrotechnics and stunts, but if they were playing out of time, it would all be for nothing.

jump around like all hell and make sure you guitarist plays his solos behind his head or on his knees. Get your singer to say cool things between songs. But most of all make sure your songs kick arse. Also, just a little tip, as i have a friend that judges battle of the bands finals sometimes, Originals score you points, covers don't.
1. come out with cameras and take pictures of the crowd
2. have an on-stage bust-up. envolve the crowd
3. do the partay boy! (jakass)
4. play something heavy and then break down into some drum n bass
5. wear tight lycra like back in th' day
6. stop playing to do the YMCA (followed by the can-can)
7. pull a rabbit out of a hat
8. get some volunteers onto the stage, give them each a torch and tell them to put on a light show
9. tell the audience theyre crap and need to loose weight
10. come out with glasses and say "has anyone seen my laptop? i need to check my emaaaail"
11. tell them the show is cancelled and that the band you wanna get revenge on is giving out refunds
12. fill up a big bucket and shout "free peanuts for everyone!!!"
and im done *yawn*

Dont listen to him stormer, I respect that you only post when you have a valid question or something important to contribute to a thread. Far too many people on this board are complete post whores that contribute nothing.
