Alright, I'm new to the whole "live sound" deal so, which would be better for a high school rock band's singer: A guitar amp with a mic or just buying a PA.
I'm not looking for anything too expensive, so that's why I asked.

Don't run a mic thru a guitar amp. It's not good for it.

Run a mic through a cheap-arse guitar amp if you can't afford a PA, but if you do it with some regularity in a few months your amp will sound like ****.

I run a mic through a guitar amp, it's not as bad as everyone says it is. Just make sure it's a **** amp which you don't mind ****ing up. Don't use one live though, definately use a PA for that. A guitar amp is a cheap alternative for practices, better than screaming your lungs out without a mic anyway. :)
