Music recording and samples

I've been playing guitar for a while and wanted to try some improv playing to a backing track. What are some good programs to use to give yourself a backing to play the guitar to?

So far i've been using the MTV music generator(dont laugh), got it when i was 14, but it doesn't provide much flexibilty.

Also, where could I get some good samples(drum loops, bass...etc) for (hopefully) free.

Try googling and look for samples, i've downloaded some before for free but unfortunately i can't remember the sites.

my comp has a ****ty sound recorder i usalluay record simple rythms if i wanna improvise, they may be ****ty sound but it gets the job done
