We're gonna have a garage gig next Monday and we need a mic stand but we can't afford to buy one  Is there a cheap and easy way to make one that doesn't look stupid?

steal one from someone you know, or jerry rig **** with lots of duct tape, thats always works, get some pvc pipe , wrap black tape around it and make one.....

I did that before, make a X frame out of 2x4s for the base, make a hole for the PVC, and then either make a hole in the PVC to stick the mic through, or make a divit in the top to set it in. decorate as desired.

Do you have any hooks on the ceiling in your garage? If not you could always hammer some in or something. You see, you could run the mic up the hook and have it hanging down. It doesn't look as silly as it sounds, plus there's no stand to accidentally kick over.

it says he needs one by monday, so i doubt ebay would work in him having it by then.
someone said it already, if your only singing, then hold it.
if your a guitarist or bassist, keyboardist, etc, then try to borrow a friends, or hang it from the ceiling.
when however you dont get money, there is a package on www.musiciansfriend.com where you get a mic, cable, and mic stand for $20. i'd post the link but i gotta get to school, haha. i'll post it later.

I ghetto rigged one once by taking the tray off of a music stand and duct-taping the mic to the telescopic arm. It worked pretty well, although the mic wasn't very adjustable.

Once I went to practice and forgot the stand. THe bassist had a V shaped guitar stand, and we jst squeeked it into that and played sitting down
I had a lamp stand, smashed of the top part, put a plasic tube over it and the holder for te microphone would fit exactly on it. And because it was a plasic tube I could slide it up and down to ajust the hight :D

Mine is Jerry rigged also. I had one that I permanently "borrowed" from my old high school (yea, punk rock! lol). Anyway, it's the basic kind with the round base. I was singing one day and leaning into the mic and sure enough, I bent the bottom on the pole where the threads are so now it doesn't screw into the base. Problem solved! I have an old rusted bottom to a cymbal stand. I yanked out the cymbol pole, jammed in the mic pole, forced some of those clamp thingies on it and tightened the wingnut into place. Shazaam! I now have a rusty tripod mic stand that wobbles some... but it serves its purpose. To comment on the hanging mic idea: when I was 15 and practicing in my friend's shed, there was a chain hanging for a punching bag so we got liquored up one day and duct taped the mic to it. Of course you don't NEED to get liquored up first to do that but we did. ;) Anyway, the only bitch about it was that I was constantly walking in a circle because the mic kept wanting to move around.

just take some pvc pipe and an old wheel from a car or anything else that would work and duct tape them together then duct tape a mic on
