Assuming that the porta02mkII is a tape-deck style multitrack and not a digital...Tape head cleaner and Q-tips. You can get the cleaner at radio shack. It should come with some instructions, but basically you just moisten the Q-tips with cleaner and swab the heads. Swab at least twice (once to dissolve buildup and again to wipe it away.) If you really use the recorder a lot, you might want to get a degausser to de-magnetize the heads.

"I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of cleaning your tape heads EVERY TIME you record. Nothing reduces the sound quality of a 4track more than dirty heads. I mean it. You can buy a cassette cleaner and a bottle of fluid at the record store (get the combo head/capstan pincher roller cleaner). Or just buy some q-tips and a bottle of denatured alcohol and clean the heads by hand. (Look in the manual if you're not sure which little bits are the heads, capstans and all that.)
The other thing you'll want to pick up at the record store is a demagnetizing cassette, a cheap but necessary bit of business that helps maintain your 4track.
I know all this technical stuff is tedious, but in the long run it pays to maintain your gear regularly. Not too rock n roll, but neither is having to shell out for a new tape recorder two years from now. "
Some parts need to be cleaned with cleaner, some bits with alcohol, I think its the rubber sections you clean with alcohol.
However I'm not too sure.
