Hey guys and gals. My band Johnny Deformed started recording some demos and we're looking for some criticism on them. We are a rock band out of Champaign, IL. Our first song is called 'Fade Away' and it's more or less a ballad.

Any comments or criticism are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yea it's pretty retarded. I forgot to remove it from the mp3.

Anyone else?

We're going to be re-recording it with some changes in late December. Any other comments/criticism?

Quite good song. I wouldn't really label it rock though. I guess it's mostly the singer's voice that makes me think of pop. Good voice though, sounds a little bit as The Cure's singer. The song gets a bit boring at the end, but luckily you end it at the right point. Yep, quite good.

Yea sorry, we only had so much time in the studio and this was the only song we had refined enough to complete. It's definitely our "ballad" if you will. We hope to get all our tracks down before xmas and post them up here. Thanks for the comments!

i liked it...reminded me alot of matchbox 20 and other pop/rock bands along those lines.with my pc speakers and the washer and dryer running, i didnt really hear everything that well but it was good.

i hear what u r trying for i think.the structure of the song was pretty common, maybe add a lil guitar solo and a bridge that is a departure from the rest of the song , give it a lil bit more spice! a nice break can add a lot to a simple song.

overall i liked it...the singer sounded good and the drummer was solid.the guitar sounded a little "nervous" i think. maybe in-experience, i dont know. but it is a catchy lil tune.

good job

I liked it.. it was good pop-rock. Your singer reminded me of Maroon 5 in some places... he was quite a good singer. I enjoyed his voice. I couldn't hear the bass at all, but I was only listening on one speaker, maybe it comes through on the other one? Drums were standard, and I agree with what they say about the guitarist: he seemed a little nervous, tight (and not in the good sense of "tight"). He needs to loosen up, maybe jam a little before you start the song. But other that that I enjoyed it.

i thought it was really good, i hope to get some of my band's songs up here if we ever get them recorded, how did you guys record your stuff? i agree that the singer's voice kinda reminded me of maroon 5, but hes an awesome singer, keep up the good work!

No profoundness but a solid performance. There's nothing to complain about here.

Thanks again for all the comments!

morrissey: Yea it's possible that the bass is only coming out of one channel ... then again there aren't any profound bass parts in the song anyways :)

rhcp: Our singer's brother is in a band called Zang (check them out at www.zangrocks.com) ... they have a mini-studio setup in their house where we layed down the tracks. I can give you more info on the specific equipment if you want. This is the first song we've ever recorded, so we were all kinda shaky (i.e. hungover) at the time.

As I said before we are going to finish laying down our other tracks in the next couple weeks and they fit much more into the rock genre than this one. It just happened that we got this one done first.

Okey, it's not my music taste but I'll crit it without my personal taste:
Great. The singer can sing, yay. It was a nice chill song. If I was in to this kind of music I'd prob love it. You sounds pro to me. Would fit in to MTV actually. I mean, it's so well done that it could be played there if it had a video.
Good job.

the bass drum is drifting throughout this... not quite in time. Also it is to hard... make it softer and less up front - this song doesn't need it so much in your face. I would also lose the overdub on the chorus doesn't add to the song in my opinion. Also second verse lose that overdub again taking away form the song not adding to it.

Great voice good tune just a few mix issues IMHO. Also did you use a metronome for this songs or is it a live recording... feels a little to loose

i think its really good man, quite... jazzy? i think thats a good way to describe it. It sounds good, i'd say that the vocals should be the easiest thing to hear (i.e. sing louder), but overall its ****ing hot :D
