Background Info:
The first metal release by The Berzerker, which used to just be Luke
who was a gabba/speedcore DJ.
It blends death metal, grindcore, industrial and techno all into one.
This had 3 session musicians on it. It was originally intended to be recorded
in Canada by Devin Townshend of Stapping Young Lad, and have Jed (SYL)
on guitars, and Chris Valagao from Zimmer's Hole in the place of Sam
on vocals...unfortunatly the Canada recordings didn't work out because
of financial reasons, and Luke was forced to record the album at home
on a PC...

The Review:

Alrighty, lets get started.
Track 1, Reality (4/5) starts off with a sample "And know what I have
witnessed...now it is your turn, prepeare yourself for a journey into a world,
where each new step may give you a better understanding of your own reality"
Then the guitars and drums come in.
The kickdrums are distorted techno type ones on this album, but they sound good.
There are three different vocalists on each song, on here Luke is the guy with the
'Gollum' type voice, Sam is the growly guy, and Toby is the guy who screams.
t one point the drums on this song almost drown out the guitars:(

Forever (5/5) is one of my faves. It starts off with a simple guitar riff,
which then goes into a tremolo picked one.
The vocalists on this song like kind of duel with each other vocally.
The sample on here is quite sickening, some people talking about some guy
who killed college co-eds then raped their decapitated bodies...ok

Burnt (4/5) is one of the more techno/gabba influenced songs.
It immediately starts off with a teachno drumbeat, then the guitars come in.
I like a part around 0:36 where the riff suddenly changes into a brilliant
death metal riff. At 1:14 it goes into a gabba style thingy again

Ah, Pain (3/5), the first industrial track of the album.
Now, there are guitar and bass on here, but I cannot hear them.
if you've seen the DVD, you'll know that the riff isn't played in their
usual A tuning, they tuned it to A, then slipped a cassette under the bridge
to drop the tuning to D2:eek:.
You can hear Sam and Luke's vocals separately instead of being mixed with each
other's for once.

Cannibal Rights (5/5), I love the guitar riff!
Now, the vocalist doing most of the vocals on here is Toby, you can hear
his brutal scream more clearly on this song...pity he isn't still in the band.
he'd've kicked arse on Dissimulate:(

Ahahaha! Massacre (5/5), the Soul Destroyer (if you've seen the DVD
you'll know what I'm on about).
This has quite techno-y drums, the guitar riff is good.
Then we get to the sample "An endless panorama of desolation and death", and the
song kicks into gear and goes full speed.
The vocals go as fast as ****, and the riff...if you've
seen the DVD, you'll know Luke wanted the guitarists to play it downpicked!
I'm attempting to cover this soon!

Chronological Order Of Putrefaction (4/5) is...hang on, a slow
Berzerker song, and where's my guitar bitch?
This is a slower techno based song, which I quite like, synths on here sound nice.
Then the guitar comes in (still slow), and the vocals are pretty solid.

Deform (5/5) starts off with a sample from The Elephant Man.
The kicks are quite viciously panned at times on here. Great riffs, once again,
gotta love that one at 1:16.

Slit Down (4/5)
Another great song.
I actually prefer Sam's vocals on here, Luke gets a bit annoying at times.

February (5/5)
I love this one, dunno what category it comes under, I guess techno-y symphonic doom/death
metal!
It starts off with keyboards, then Luke comes in, not screaming but talking about his
hatred of the world:eek:.
It picks up pace later and becomes more aggresive "I HATE THE WORLD, AND EVERYTHING THAT IS
INSIDE!".

Mono Grind (4/5)
Ahh, some straight up grind; short and fast:thumb:
I have to admit, the drums on this song sound a bit like a helicopter for some reason:confused:.
M! O! N! O! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRIND!!
The lyrics that are screamed after the MONO GRIND have not been released for some reason.

Ignorance (4/5)
This is a black metallish song (it was titled Black Metal on the demo btw) with a repetitive
riff and drums.
You can hear Toby more than any of the other vocalists on here, Luke seems to be lost in the
drums.

Humanity (5/5)
Ahh, an instrumental. It's doom/slugde with techno sounding drums.
It also goes into 6/8 and 11/8 time sigs near the end:eek:

95 (2/5)
Ah, ok. Most people hate these last two tracks. They are noisecore basically.
This one sounds like space invaders a few seconds in, pow pow pow!

Ode To Nash (3/5)
The second noisecore track, but I like this one a little.
It has vocals on it, but you can't understand a thing they are saying.
For people who are wondering, Nash is one of Luke's friends, who was present during the
recording of the album.

Good review, nice layout, good length in total.

Maybe a tad more elaboration on the song details ? not a problem, but it was hard to differentiate aspects of each song.

I've only heard a couple of songs of this, but heard the full Dissimulate album; i *think* i prefer the latter ( so far ).

Out of interest where is the sample from No One Wins from ?

A lot of the samples are from some thing called Executions 4 or something.

I prefer Dissimulate to this really, this is a good review though, I'm glad you put Gabba in the genre ;)

Cheers.
Yeah, I prefer Dissimulate, it still has the techno drums, but it's more metal.
The drums are what makes Berzerker the Berzerker, it would sound odd with normal drums I think.

I have heard one of these songs, and I hated it. I like your review though. :)
