Nymphetamine has a killer chorus.

That's the only good thing I've ever found in any of their music.

Might as well have titled this "Nymphetamine" because that's the only thing that they've done that has much value to it.

To each their own, but I can't stand that cd. The title track is the only one I can actually listen to. They've been steadily going downhill since Midian.

I find that the reason some have trouble understanding CoF is on 2 things: vocals and lyrics. Indeed I appreciate their early work, but I am personaly grateful Dani expanded his vocal capabilities, rather than sticking to a single repetitive vocal key and half-growl, half-yell. Had he the band wouldn't have gone far after The Priciple's of Evil Made Flesh. For those who don't understand pick up Principle's, listen and you'll get my point. Now on the lyrics spectum, Dani's subject matter changes with each song and/or album. Most of the inspiration comes from from events/people/things he has read about and studied, some based on fact, factual, and fiction information. ****ation's focus was of Lucifer's expultion from Heaven and what he experienced in the aftermath, Cruelty was based around the life of the Hungarian Countes Elizabeth Bathory, after which she was believed to have been transformed to a vampire, and history has a rather brutal memory of her deads in the search for eternal youth, Principle's,Dusk, Midian, and Suciubi are mosty based upon myths and legends he read about, and I believe a few on some true incidents. Who knows. Anyone wishing to further pursue looking for the motive for his lyrics, study and memorize names mentioned, go into a search engine and type in the names and see what you come up with, and if you really want to shine this new insight then put it in this forum so mabye people willl come to understand and maybe even appreciate the past and Cof. Hopefully this will stop some people blindly critizing CoF until they actually know what the hell there talking about, then say what they want.

Comment, anyone?

very true
also gilles de rai (sp.?) who was a supposed vampire is mentioned in a couple of songs
"he lets me prey
a gilles de rai of light
where faith leads truth astray"
cradle are the most literate band I know and their subject matter is always v. interesting and poetic
anyone who reads H.P lovecraft will recognise the subjects

any U.K tour dates to support Nymphetamine?
need to see them
anyone going to see them in the U.S please review the gig!!!

cradle of filth quickly became my favorite after a short while listening to their music.

cof questions:
what happened to Danni filths skin? plastic surgery? i saw something like that on dimmu borgir vocalist

is it true that Danni Filth is a writer? what are some books by him? where does he get inspiration for writing books and song lyrics?

The only Cradle of Filth albums that I really care for are The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Dusk and Her Embrace, and Dark Faery Tales In Phallustein. Dani's voice really irritates me, but I think they are all talented musicians (especially the drummer), and they really have some great songs. My favorite songs are The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Dusk and Her Embrace, and Funeral in Carpathia.

I don't like em. Mostly its like Slipknot- all the fanboys running around saying how good and talented they are, how they are the most evil thing to ever exist, and so on. The actual band is pretty bad too. I mean, people are calling them Vampire Metal. WTF? Thats stupider than all the -core genres, IMO. And as far as talent goes, belive me, there are WAY more talented and better bands our there.

Dimmu I don't really mind. I don't like them, but I don't hate them either. They're just up there with all the other Symphonic BM I don't listen to. From what I have heard of them, they sound like your average Symphonic BM band, which is cool. I know a lot of people are sliding away from them for becoming more Mainstream, but I think thats cool. i agree the whole vampire metal is a little chezzy and that there are more talented bands out there but they have some cool melodies with the integration of the keyboards plus i really like their drumming. that doesn't mean that people cant like bands because they are becoming slightly mainstream plus there is always gonna be a more talented band but if everyone listened to music based on maximum talent we would all be just listening to the guitar gods like micheal angelo, yngwie, steve vai etc..

Yeah, I mean I'm not saying you guys suck for liking CoF, or your music taste sucks. Different people like different things, though I bet if you knew more bands you would probably come to see why people here don't really like CoF. And I don't really have a problem with bands becoming mainstream. Some of my favorite bands are really mainstream (Metallica, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Emperor, so on).

The violen (I think) at the begining of Fear of the Dark was pretty cool, I'll give them that, but...

1) Dani can't sing.
2) Hallowed be thy Name shouldn't have an organ in it.
3) The guitars at the very begining of the Fear the Dark are waaaay too unclear/distorted than they should be.
4) The vocals should be some what understandible. I have nothing against screaming or "black metal" vocals, but Fear of the Dark shouldn't sound like "Fee arrry ahhhh!"
5) Never put bag pipes in an Iron Maiden song.
6) I hate you Dani.

I love Cradle of Filth! They are my life! i listen to them everyday...i go to sleep to them! They are the best! I think the new album Nymphetamine sucked...read the lyrics from Cruelty and The Beast and compare them to Guilded Cunt. Its terrible. They changed there lyrics so much its almost intollerable. D4mnation and a Day fuked everything up. That cd sucked! i would have to say Midian was the best! All the cds behind d4mnation actually had stories behind all the lyrics, now its just doesnt make any sense.

4) The vocals should be some what understandible. I have nothing against screaming or "black metal" vocals, but Fear of the Dark shouldn't sound like "Fee arrry ahhhh!"
5) Never put bag pipes in an Iron Maiden song.
6) I hate you Dani.
If you can't understand him screaming Fear Of The Dark, You need to open your **** ears up, its so easy.

Nymphetamine has a killer chorus.

That's the only good thing I've ever found in any of their music.

I agree, that song is soooo awesome. Dimmu Borgir is pretty awesome too. Did you know that their drummer has the fastest double bass roll in the biz? 800 bpm! Amazing.

They obviously have talent, but i find it hard to sit through a whole song. They have a lot of cool riffs and things like that, but i often find myself having to fast forward my cd to get there. They put on a really good show though and i respect them.

800bpm is nothing, some guy can do 1024.
And Gary from the Berzerker owns him at snare/hat/tom drumming.

D*mn, this thread is overrun with goth wannabes.

Some guy can do 1407... but any extreme metal drummer can beat 800 no problem. What a bunch of idiots - the band, the label, and anyone who beleives they have the fastest drummer on earth.

Kiilerich is widely considered to be one of the most skilled speed/grind drummers around, having won the title "fastest feet in the world" with more than 800 hits on the pedals in one minute at the NAMM music convention in the U.S., according to published reports.

To put this into perspective, listen to the famous drum break after the solo on Angel of Death. The bass drums there, and throughout the song, are going at approx. 840 bpm or strokes per minute... so Dimmu Borgir's drummer isn't doing anything that hasn't been done long before.

Cradle of Filth...black metal?

Bathory are black metal(early) viking metal(later). Dissection are melodic death/black metal, and Suffocation are brutal death. pfft.

COF is most definately not the most evil band out there. but you gotta admit they aren't half bad. i can say they aren't my favorite band out there but they do deserve some respect
I Indefinitely agree on the point of "not the most evil band out there." there is one band that can make almost every other band look tame. Anyone familiar with Mayhem? If you are then you know what I mean. If oyu don't then look up their history. Some morbidly interesting ****.

There's also the kind of people who hate CoF whom i dont understand. Example: there's gonna be a big metal festival during March 2005. And CoF and Dimmu Borgir are said to be present there. So what i have read on one forum? things like: 'oh nooo, therz gona come lotsa stupid kids who think there goths they dont know what prop'r black metal is CoF and DB suxxxxx a$$!!!'

Bathory and Dissection aren't the best examples either. Early Bathory was in the first wave, but no way definitive of what it is today.

There are two songs that have been remixed as such.

Dance Macabre (Based off of Safron's Curse)
Both can be found on the Lovecraft and Witch Hearts compilation, on the WH cd.
Have fun if you get it.

I like Cradle. And also for the last few days i've been appreciating some downloaded music by mayhem, at the gates, emperor, gorgoroth and akercocke... Theyre quite similar in style, but Cradle seem more... seem to have deeper lyrics and artism in what they make their instruments (and throat :) ) sound like. um i'm 14 and those people i've mentioned are mostly about 20 years old. and they goquite a lot 'drinking beer is the best a metal gig gives' they're just annoying, and having knowledge of presence of such people close to me during those gigs will be quite... annoying. i know i'm a bit repetitive but i have a limited knowledge of English vocabulary:)
