We all love glissandos, but small amounts of people know how to do it correctly.

Part 1: The starting base The note you begin the glissando on should compliment or harmonize with the ending result. If your just doing a big glissando that goes all the way down/up the keyboard, start on the root note.

Part 2: Do it! The glissando itself is easy. A correct glissando takes the right technique.

WRONG: Sliding the palm of your hand down/up the keyboard. This sounds messy, with all the notes being clumped up together.

WRONG: Simply taking your finger pad and going down/up the keyboard. This is slower and hurts your finger.

RIGHT: Sliding with the FINGERNAIL on the index finger. NOT THE PAD, THE NAIL. This accentuates every note, has ajustable speeds, and does not hurt your finger.

Part 3: The ending point This is the note you are giving momentum to. Use it wisely or don't use the glissando at all. Unless its a big glissando, hold the final note (make sure its the right one!) and play with the notes around it. The way you USE the note you glissandoified to is more important than the gliss itself.

Actually, the standard technique is UP with the index finger nail and DOWN with the thumb nail: You forgot down. Also: I think you're too fussy about ending notes. Rock-and-roll glissandos typically don't have distinct ending notes nor should they, and non-rock-and-roll glissandos are fairly rare--with good reason. Check your spelling.
