5.ANGEL OF DEATH

If I ever here those songs in that order I might very well kill somebody.

Next time I see them, I'll be pissed if they don't play At Dawn They Sleep. When I saw them, they played nothing off of Hell Awaits.
I'm pretty sure once their new album is released, this thread will have quite a bit of activity for a while.

Is it just me or Read Between the Lies is a grossly under-rated song? So what was the first Slayer solo you learned on guitar? Mine was the 2nd solo to War Ensemble.

It hardly gets enough mention. It's my favorite song off of South of Heaven. King actually wrote really good lyrics and rythm for that song.
I'm currently working on the solos to The Antichrist. They're the only solos I've attempted to learn by Slayer as well.

Dave is back for the new album...can't wait for it. Dave has to be the luckest drummer in the fact that Slayer has let him back in so many times. That just proves his wacky style is a big back bone of Slayer just like Jeff Hanneman is.
Dave = greatest drummer on earth

Question for BLS_Infernus: What's so special about the S&Key Hanneman Sig?
they made very little of those and they are rare as hell. they go for double the price of a normal ESP Hanneman sig on ebay and then it's even more special if it has a Kahler 2315 if it came stock
Why were the inlays banned?

Yes, and hopefully these new albums will be better than their previous ones (St. Anger and God Hates Us All). Though, Kerry and Jeff said the new material is similar to the material on GHUA, how ever Dave is drumming again so maybe it will add some more kick ***-ery.

lets not forget about Megadeth...rumor is they are back in the studio as well. Exodus as well (I'm guess) because they popped out 2 albums last year. I'm hoping 2006 will be a great year for metal. 2005 was average but it showed a great increase in the interest of metal.

I'm not expecting anything great from this new Slayer record.
The only glimmer of hope is that Dave is back, and I think in some interview Kerry or Jeff mentioned that everyone was having input into this album. The fact that their setlists now seem to have more older stuff since Dave has been back is good. Hopefully it means Dave will put some good stuff into the songs.
But I'm still not expecting anything special.

I just prefer Dave over Bostaph. And I'm pretty sure that even with Dave back the song writting isn't going to be much better especially when Kerry says that the album is going to be like an extension of God Hates Us All.

I'm not a huge Dream Theater fan. I won't say they aren't crap musicians, because obviously they aren't. Dave's drumming is more interesting to me. And I haven't really listened to enough Dream Theater to base a proper opinion. So with that said, I think Dave is better.

Lombardo has rythm. I seriously don't see what you guys see in Portnoy. In this video, he is just randomly hitting everything on his set, not even remotely subject to a certain ''flow''. I have literally seen 12 year olds drum better.

Yeah, but you're forgetting there are 2 guitarists and the bassist IS the singer. Also great is an understatement when it comes to Dave Lombardo's drumming.
I've talked to some good bass players that I know and they say singing while playing is a bitch because the bass is doing a counter melody to the vocal melody or something like that. That would mean that tom arraya is a pretty kick @$$ bass player because he can sing and play high tempo bass.

Just more of Kerry King's babbling of how the new CD is like an "extension" of God Hates Us All. But Dave is in the band, and maybe his drumming will effect how Kerry and Jeff put their riffage to the drumming. Hopefully there will be more Tom and Jeff lyrics and less of Kerry.

In further news, Kerry King will be among the stars confirmed to attend the Hollywood's RockWalk induction of Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde, set to take place at 7425 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, CA on Tuesday, January 17 at noon. The event is open for the public. Rob Zombie, Slash and Duff McKagan of Velvet Revolver, Robert Trujillo of Metallica, John 5 (Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie), baseball greats Mike Piazza and Scott Spiezio, wrestlers Steve Austin and Jericho, Vinnie Abbott and Rex Brown (ex-Pantera), Jerry Cantrell and Michael Inez (ex-Alice in Chains), and Jim Ladd are among the others who are expected to attend this event.
Very nice line-up to pay tribute to Zakk.
Kinda off topic, I still say that the best slayer song to play in a church lyrically would be New Faith.

I'm getting heavily into Show No Mercy. Its gives me such vivid images of death and evil through both the music and the lyrics. This band is awesome. I've had War At The Warfield for ages and revisted that the other day, its pretty good. Damn dvd skipped on War Ensemble, thats my favourite song by them i think, Seasons in the Abyss rates pretty highly too. I got really stoned and listened to it ages ago and saw tanks in my head and bombs being dropped. Man that was insane.

Sounds cool but it is stage blood diluted with water.
I was watching Uranium back in like may or june of last year and they had a thing on the bloodiest goriest stage shows ever. Naturally slayer and gwar were there.
Juliyan (sp?) was talking to the stage crew about how they do the whole blood thing and they said that for certain parts it was stage blood and water and others it was kool-aid and water. I think that they said towards the end (have not seen still reigning like a dumb@$$) they used just straight stage blood.

That was my first Slayer CD. And even though now, it kind of bores me because of it's slower pace, I owe that album for getting me into Slayer. I was actually listening it today on the way to school, it's not as bad as I used to think of it.
Jeff > Kerry for sure.
']SoH is too slow mate. You say it's your favourite album then go on to say your favourite guitarist is the one in Slayer who plays fastest and with least melody.
Hmmm... I totally disagree. I think that Jeff has more feeling and melody in most of his solos as opposed to Kerry. Listen to the second solo in The Antichrist and Necrophiliac. Also Jeff wrote all the music for South of Heaven which is probably one of the slowest songs on that album. Additionally, he has said in an interview (if I find it I'll post it) that he writes solos with more melody, compared to Kerry who just goes out with crazy stuff.
http://www.slayersaves.com/interviews_jeff1.htm
Jeff: I think (Dave) Lombardo summed it up years ago, He said "Kerry writes fast stuff & Jeff writes fast stuff & moody stuff", so I guess I write a bit more moodier than Kerry does.
But it's all opinion. I personally think that Jeff is the more melody.

Ouch, easy man. Jeff is my fav. guitarist out of the 2 because he has more melody. That's just a basic fact that's been established here many times.
Kerry is a more creative songwriter but Jeff has got more skill than Kerry.
Anyways if any ppl need to get into some good slayer take butchers advice as well as mine. Go buy Hell awaits and for those that want the full taste of slayer and money is no problem, buy their $60 boxset (they also have $100 one but that's just overkill unless you're a fanboy like me). From Slayersaves
Slayer Forge 'Ozzfest Alternative' With Mastodon, Lamb Of God - March 3rd, 2006
For Slayer guitarist Kerry King, June 6 holds considerably more weight this year, a year that marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the band's trailblazing speed-metal album, Reign in Blood. With his penchant for satanic lyrical imagery, King pinpointed June 6 — 6/6/06 — as the ideal release date for Slayer's forthcoming album, the follow-up to 2001's God Hates Us All. But months of record label holdups have placed King's lofty goal in peril.
Of course, Slayer are not about to let June 6 come and go without some sort of acknowledgement on their end. Oh no — instead of releasing a record, they plan to launch a two-month U.S. tour with Mastodon, Lamb of God, Children of Bodom and Thine Eyes Bleed.
Dubbed the Unholy Alliance Tour, the trek will make stops in most major cities, although the actual routing of the run is still being fleshed out. Either way King's anxious to hit the road again.
"It's been 18 months since we've toured in the States," he explained. "People are going to be chomping at the bit to see us again. [Although tour runs concurrently with Ozzfest], we're certainly not going to try to make Ozzfest go away. We're just trying to offer an alternative."
According to Rick Sales, Slayer's manager of 18 years, the idea's to make the Unholy Alliance Tour an annual event "with the best bands out there." During the fall of 2004, Slayer, Slipknot, Mastodon and Hatebreed toured Europe under the Unholy Alliance tag. Sales also wants to take the tour global and said following its U.S. run, the Alliance will return to Europe, followed by stints in Japan and Australia — although, he noted the lineups would be different on each leg.
"I think we're in a different spot than Ozzfest," Sales continued. "This is more extreme and it's not involving any sort of 'radio bands.' It's a no-compromise lineup, the best of the breed. We think this is a great live event and that the tour will become bigger than the lineup. I think Ozzfest has proven that."
Slayer will deliver an hour-plus set to close out each night of the Unholy Alliance; Thine Eyes Bleed will open on all dates, followed by Bodom and Mastodon (who'll be rotating slots) and then Lamb of God. King said Slayer will debut some new material from the stage.
On Tuesday Slayer entered a Los Angeles studio, where they started recording the 11 songs that'll comprise their yet-untitled album. Rick Rubin (Jay-Z, Red Hot Chili Peppers) will executive-produce the disc, while Josh Abraham (Velvet Revolver, Staind) will turn the knobs. One of the songs has an official title ("Cult"), but all of them, King promised, will be devastatingly grim.
"There are definitely things you can't write about in Slayer, and there are definitely things people expect you to write about," he said. "Everybody expects war, Satanism or anti-religious stuff — and this record's chock-full of that."
The LP, which the band hopes to finish in time for a late June release, will be the first to feature original drummer Dave Lombardo in more than 15 years. Their last outing together was 1990's Seasons in the Abyss.
"[Drummer] Paul [Bostaph], who we did God Hates Us All with, kind of had an elbow problem, and now he's with Exodus," King said. "When Paul left us ... it was brought to our attention that Dave was available. And we figured if anybody should be doing this, it should be him."
Most of the 11 songs Slayer will record were written more than two years ago, the guitarist said. "We're hoping to do it old-school and record everything in like four weeks," he added. "We're ready. This is probably the most ready we've been since Seasons. We've been spinning our wheels in rehearsals, just waiting for the green light on this thing. Now that we've got it, we're ready to go.
"It's definitely going to be a riff-fest," King continued. "There's riffs all over the place. As much time as we've had to work on it, there better be riffs on it. I think anybody who likes Slayer, musically, is going to love it."
While Sales said Slayer's studio LP probably won't be in stores by June 6, he says the band will release a digital download, EP or something else to coincide with the tour launch.
On Saturday, MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" will feature an exclusive interview with bassist Tom Araya regarding the forthcoming album and the Unholy Alliance run.
Why does Lamb of Frog have to be there? :(
I don't give a crap, I delt with Killswitch Engage and all those hxc fags when I saw Slayer, I can deal with LOG.

To be fair Tom Araya is probably one of the worst metal singers ever. As much as I hate to say it. Slayer still are my favourite thrash band.
Pfffffft
Reign In Blood has some of the best vocals in metal. Period.
Sure he can't actually sing like Rob Halford, but Thrash was never about that.

I only like a few of the songs off their newer albums.
Overt Enemy(actually one of my favorites of theirs), Bloodline, Disciple, Cast Down, Devience, Bitter Peace, Screaming From The Sky and a couple others.
I know they play E flat on the older stuff but the newer albums sound like they could be downtuned. Maybe it's just the totally different, much heavier tone?
