There is a Kreator thread, it's small but it pops up every now and then.
And yeah Slayer were there.
From Slayersaves tourdates. Under 2004 European dates.

Hmmm if my memory serves me correctly it was something like:
South Of Heaven
Disciple
Blood Red
Mandatory Suicide
War Ensemble
Seasons In The Abyss
Dead Skin Mask
Postmortem
Raining Blood
Angel Of Death
I might be forgetting some, and I'm not 100% about the order, but all of those were played.
I was at Download in 04 as well but missed Slayer due to them changing stage. :upset:

Did you atleast hear them play or something?
That's about the length of playlist from when I saw them.
I know the first songs they played were Disciple then Stain of Mind.
Then in no perticular order:
Dead Skin Mask
Chemical Warfare
Angel of Death
Seasons in the Abyss
South of Heaven
War Ensemble
Bloodline
Mandatory Suicide
Postmortem
Raining Blood
Postmortem and Raining Blood were the last 2 songs.

Well they changed stage and time so they were headlining the 2nd stage, but Metallica were headlining the main stage, so I wanted to make sure I got a good spot for them (they were my favourite band at the time).
But it turned out that was the day that Lars didn't play with the band, so there was a huge delay in them coming on. And the first two songs they played with Dave Lombardo as well. So it turned out I could have watched both sets.
Oh well, I've got to see Slayer twice since, so I can't complain too much :D

I just put that up, because at school, some random kid during passing period stopped and told me that I reminded him. The only thing I think we really have in common looks-wise is that we have long blondish hair, white skin, and blue eyes. It made my day though. I do wish my hair was still as blonde as Jeff's. It used to be super blonde, but once I hit my teens it's been getting darker and darker.

It was funny when I was growing my hair out and had a goatee similar to Dimebag Darrells (well the chin part anyways). Ppl used to say I looked like Jack Black with a goatee.

Speaking of headbanging and Slayer. I remember this is probably the most vivid memory of the Slayer concert I still have. It was during Chemical Warefare, and I was headbanging, and my buddy gets ready to throw the horns up, and smacked me in the face. I really didn't pay attention, but now that I think about it, I think it's funny. And if we weren't at the concert, I'd probably would have been kind of pissed.

Lmao. How wild are slayer shows?
Well I where I saw them, it wa a small venue, it was a sold-out show. So I felt like a sardine in a can. My buddy and I forced our way to the front of the stage during Killswitch, because we figured it'd be hard to get up to the front when Slayer took stage.... and when Slayer did, people rushed the stage. So we were squished, people were pulling hair and pulling people to get to the front. One asshole, tried getting my spot.. but I didn't give it up. He ended taking the person next's to mine.
But yeah, there were huge *** people in the pits, and quite a few people coming out with bloodied faces. All around, people were just screaming and trying to fight their way to the front, and the huge people were beating the crap out of each other in the pits. I guess Slayer concerts are pretty crazy, yet it's totally fun.
Best concert I'd been to.

Jesus...well, have you ever been to a rodeo? Imagine 500-5000 people that look just like that pissed off bull, frantic and insane, moshing like nuts.
It's truly an experience to behold, even if you're not a Slayer fan. Having seen them about 15 times I can tell you for the sheer spectacle of it, and the way it just melts your face off, there is no show like it.

My thoughts exactly. I've never seen a message board community as tough as this one. Please guys lighten up just a little.
Anyways, I have an interesting story pertaining to slayer.
I've been trying to put together an acdc tribute band and I finally got a call from a drummer. To make a long story short, this guy looks almost identical to Dave Lombardo. Doesn't have nearly as much talent, but my drummers name also happens to be named Dave. Kinda freaky, huh?
I mentioned this to him and he says that he has no idea who slayer or Dave Lombardo are so I played raining blood for him and he was taken back by it just a bit. (he's 41 so that explains it)

Oh and it means devil in music I guess.
Supposedly, the diabolus in musica is supposed to be a reference to the 5th interval. Which Slayer used in nearly every song. Kerry has referred to it as the "devil's scale". You guys all know the scale. The intro to Raining Blood, Dead Skin Mask, South of Heaven, At Dawn They Sleep, and Read Between the Lies are all perfect examples of their constant usage of it. Which isn't bad, it adds more to the song.

Man, I swear Jeff and Kerry have robotic right arms and wrists because I've been trying to play At Dawn They Sleep and the riffs starting at 4:42 and during when Tom starts singing:
Emerging from their Hellish tomb
Taking flight amidst the night
The evening skies are raining Death
Swooping down from shadowed skies
Taking simple human form
Shed their wings to stalk the mortal man
Lock their jaws into your veins
Satanic soldiers strike their prey
Leaving corpses waiting for the change
Blood dripping from the jaws of Death
Not enough to satisfy
They must drain your soul of life
It's so hard for me to keep that speed so constant and keep up with them.

My top ten favorite slayer songs
War Ensemble
Angel Of Death
Seasons In The Abyss
The Antichrist
Spill The Blood
Black Magic
Hallowed Point
Altar Of Sacrifice
Aggressive Perfector
Raining Blood
My favorite slayer song to play is War Ensemble, and although I've always favored Jeff over Kerry, Kerry's solo in War Ensemble is my favorite Slayer solo ever. It's very fun to play and sounds so badass. I always love diminished solos for some reason.

Yeah actually Kerry's solo in that song is pretty cool sounding also. I think War Ensemble or Epidemic will be my next Slayer song I'll learn to play.
I found this interesting. From http://www.slaytanic.com/abyss.html
What song is Slayer's fastest one?
This list isn't guaranteed to be 100% accurate.
Necrophobic, 248 bpm
Raining Blood, 247 bpm
The Anti-Christ and Postmortem, 240 bpm
Angel of Death, 237 bpm

Raining Blood isn't really that hard for me. Just the part that goes:
E|0-5-3-2-0-6-4-3-0 < you know that part. I can do it, but I just have a hard time keeping it on time. As for the solo, all one has to do is do crazy stuff with the whammy bar and hit random notes.

Well, I've decided that my break from metal is over and I've been working on War Ensemble. That second solo is so sick!!!
The song itself is pretty easy, I've just gotta get the right rhythm to the intro down right. I can do it but not with pm. I've gotta work on that.
I think that with the exception of the solo, I've got Dead Skin Mask down as well.
BTW, Has anyone been able to tab out the intro solo on the remix of Criminally Insane? Every tabsite I go to does not have that intro solo, just the original version of CI.

Ok. You're new here so I won't yell at you. I'll just give you a heads up for the future. If you don't like a band, then don't go into their official site and start bashing them. This is a bannable offense. I'm not out to try to get anyone banned but this happens to be my fav. band and while they seem fake to you, they are very much metal to me. This constitutes a difference of opinion and should not be pressed any further.
Thank you and have a nice day. :)

You don't have to have the skills of Steve Vai or Yngwie Malmsteen to be an awesome guitarist or musician for that matter. All you've gotta do is play what you think constitutes as good music and never miss a gig or rehearsal.
Slayer has done all of the above and their music actually sounds cool.

Well many bands have I guess you could say "fake" lyrics. Tom has openly admitted that their Satanic lyrics in the past were all just a gimmick because back in the 80's Satan and stuff was taboo, and they knew if they sang about that stuff, they'd get attention. It worked. Slayer are probably the biggest thrash metal band ever. And they set out to be the most badass, violent, fastest band ever. Which is why the didn't feel the need for melodies, pretty songs, smooth solos, or slow songs. The only song I can think of with some kind of melody.. is the chorus of their song Bloodline.
Nowadays there only image to fulfill is being the best Thrash band. Which they still are.
Yesssssss its Alter Of Sacrifice, man i love blasting metal in cars its orgsmic especially slayer SATANN!!! hahaha
Yeah the lyrics to Alter of Sacrifice go.. Praise Hell, Satan. That's the only song on RIB I actually can admit I do not like. I don't know why, it just doesn't float my boat.
I don't think they were saying satan though. I think they were saying, "Sing it."

Yeah I the way his voice is deepened as well. But when they perform it live on War at the Warfield, it doesn't sound that great, because it' just him shouting it.

From the Slayer Q&A:
Tom, how long have you been playing bass? And how long after that until you switched to using a pick? Did it take some time to get used to? Do you ever stop in a music store and pick up some of the bass sheet music available for Slayer and say "What the ****? I don't play that note there! Who transcribed this ****? *** clown!"
asked by Skydive Jumptown on Thursday, May 30, 2002
Answer:
along time be playing with slayer for twenty years, while recording reign in blood i started using a pick ,i check it out but thats about it ,
answered by tom on Saturday, June 1 , 2002 7:47 PM

Well I'd love to but the thing is, I've been perm. banned from using my home computer. So when I download stuff, it goes onto my zip disk. When I upload stuff (I did manage to find a way to upload music to the college computers despite their massive security programs) it takes about 1-1.5 hours per song. By the I usually have to go to a class or to work.
I can do it, but I would have to send it to you one song at a time. If you really need the whole album right now, the best thing I can tell you is to buy it because we technically cannot give out entire albums.

Man, if they made a fretless version of Araya's bass, I'd buy it instead of a Carvin (whenever I get the cash to lolz). Although, I'm willing to bet a custom ESP to fit the Araya spec, with that Moshpit design would cost 3x the amount a Carvin would cost :\

One of New Songs May Address 9/11 Attacks From Terrorists' Viewpoint - December 3rd, 2005
Slayer are preparing to enter the studio to begin recording the long-awaited follow-up to the band's acclaimed 2001 release, "God Hates Us All". According to Revolver magazine, Slayer guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman are currently finishing up the lyrics, which will surely be as scathing, misanthropic, and controversial as anything Slayer have written. One of Hanneman's songs may even address the attacks of 9/11 from the terrorists' perspective. "We're Slayer, dude," King told Revolver. "We have to be dangerous."
Although nothing has yet been officially confirmed, King had previously told Metal Hammer magazine that he was hoping the band would once again work with producer Dave Sardy, who had previously produced Slayer's tribute to the great punk bands of the '80s, "Undisputed Attitude". "[Dave] Lombardo wants Rick Rubin for drums, and I've no problems with that because, in my opinion, it's what he's best at. But I think we're all pretty much agreed that the overall producer will be Sardy," King was quoted as saying.
Slayer's upcoming album will surface on American Recordings' new home, Warner Bros., sometime in 2006.
Not much news, but still new news.

Oh, that's Tom's custom designed ESP bass. Man if I ever get the cash together, I'm gonna have ESP model a regular 6 string electric guitar after toms bass. That would look so friggin awesome.:thumb:

About Slayer being big. I don't really care if they become more popular, I just hope that this CD isn't one that will be more radio-friendly appeal to the majority of teens style CD. I hope they're making it to just appeal to the Slayer fans and keep it fast, unforgiving and aggressive.

That's pretty much what I meant. It isn't really the popularity itself that worries me. It's that with popularity, comes the need to make more radio friendly sh*t. I too would love to see some really aggressive type stuff.
From what I've read on slayersaves.com it sounds like the album will rock. I mean, writing a song from the terrorist's point of view? That sure as hell will give them some flak.

Okay, so I downloaded a Slayer bootleg, and they're playing a song called War, and I have never heard this song, and Google isn't showing anything. And after that they play a song called Disorder and it sounds kind of the same as the War song.
But actually I found lyrics. It's the lyrics to both of the songs:
Our government is ****ed
Sure to bring us down
The media incites civil unrest
Hatred can bring you down
War! (War!)
I don't want your war
War! (War!)
We don’t need your war
We don't need your war
War!
Military beasts starvin countries
Drama brings you to your knees
Spill your blood to save humanity
Dyin’ for the food we feed
War! (War!)
I don't want your war
War! (War!)
We don’t need your war
We don't need your war
War!
Our government is ****ed
Sure to bring us down
The media incites civil unrest
Hatred can bring you down
Injustice drives you crazy
It drive L.A. insane
In this generation
Hatred is the name
War! (War!)
I don't want your war
War! (War!)
We don’t need your war
We don't need your war
War!
War!
L.A. '92
Bastard magic should make you cry
The answer to the question is we ain't gonna die
L.A. '92
Police can make me under stress
While all L.A.'s a ****in mess
Don't patronise my ****in ***
Some heads will get crashed
L.A. '92
Bush has got his upper cut
He's goin to ****in war
He won't revert to sticks and stones
Just bullet holes and broken bones
Chaos, chaos, chaos, chaos
Don't give a ****!
Everybody knock ya down
No weight support so taken down
The juk-jock might lock you in a cell
We ain't got ****, now had enough
Chaos, chaos, chaos, chaos
Don't give a ****!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
Disorder!
I'm thinking the songs are a cover.

Yeah it would, as long as it's just not a crappy song. Hopefully Slayer will possibly be going back to their more older style, and make it less God Hates Us All style. But then Jeff did say that the songs they have so far, are the kind of style of the last 2 songs from GHUA.
But if they can write more stuff like Warzone, that'd be great.

Yes Hell Awaits is very awesome. Slayer's website used to have a flash player where you could listen to every single song off of GHUA, and that's where I listened to the songs. I didn't like them so I never bought the album. It's just feels (to me) sort of like fast nu-metally music with solos. Jeff and Kerry tuned their guitars all the way down to B. And King wrote must of the lyrics, and his lyrics on this album are just silly:
You spineless ****ing maggot - you're just wasting my
time
Get out of my face - Get out of my life
Out of my ****ing way - Just die
But then there are good ones. But most of the lyrics sound like a teenage angst rant. Which is a major turn off to me.
Edit- Anyway, in my long journey to be able to play At Dawn They Sleep all down-picking and keep the pace constant, I am still struggling.

Tuning is a lot easier and they don't take way from you guitar's tone (they use a type of metal that adds sustain so it equals to it being how it would sound with a stopbar)
