I used to be a big Slayer fan until I kinda of overdosed on them. I listen to Slayer once in a while. Thr riffs in Dead Skin Mask were my favorite.
Does anyone have the album Divine Intervention? I was wondering it was good or not because it's one of the of the Slayer CDs I don't have.
Yeah I really like that CD. It took a while to grow on me though. But there are some slower paced songs, but then thrashy fast ones like Dittohead. I give it 3.5/5

I have no idea. I hope that maybe Kerry trys to use more theory than usual in his solos, didn't he take guitar classes during the writing and recording of Divine Intervention?

Hmmm, I was thinking maybe to spice things up for a while in this thread is maybe, we could each record ourselves playing Slayer songs or something? Or if you don't know a full song just play some fav. riffs.. or something I don't know.
i would post something if i could record, i have Metal Storm/Face the Slayer down pretty well, its nothing hard, but for some reason, people seem to think i'm a virtuoso for playing it.
Probably because they don't realize how easy it is...

It's more melodic than their other stuff (IE from track 5 on), but they certainly do have some great thrash songs in that album. It was the first slayer CD that I got it I really dug it. I'd tell you to buy it and check out the first 5 tracks (Killing Fields, Sex.Murder.Art., Fictional Reality, Dittohead, Divine Intervention)
My faves were Killing Fields (Love to play it on guitar while screaming the lyrics), Sex.Murder.Art (the intro is kinda hard to play on guitar), and Dittohead. (I've never heard anyone sing as fast as tom in that song.)
Yeah Dittohead is a great song. I heard it on the War at the Warfield DVD.

yeah you can check out CDs at a library, but depending on the library the collections vary...and usually are small and don't have some of the good stuff - mainly that country and pop stuff that old people listen to - thats why its all at the library, bc the person who had it is sick of it so donated it.

The song Angel of Death is not about the Angel of Death, it's about Joseph Mengele, who was an Auschwitz surgeon, and he performed expirements on the Jewish people.. such as putting them in subzero temperature waters, and burned them, he put colered dies into their eyes to see if he could change human genes and such.. he was a crazed man.

Auschwitz, the meaning of pain
The why that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay
Showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in
Like cattle
You run
Stripped of
Your life's worth
Human mice, for the Angel of Death
Four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Sadistic, surgeon of demise
Sadist of the noblest blood
Destroying, without mercy
To benefit the Aryan race
Surgery, with no anesthesia
Fell the knife pierce you intensely
Inferior, no use to mankind
Strapped down screaming out to die
Angel of Death
Monarch to the kingdom of the dead
Infamous butcher,
Angel of Death
Pumped with fluid, inside your brain
Pressure in your skull begins pushing through your eyes
Burning flesh, drips away
Test of heat burns your skin, your mind starts to boil
Frigid cold, cracks your limbs
How long can you last
In this frozen water burial?
Sewn together, joining heads
Just a matter of time
'Til you rip yourselves apart
Millions laid out in their
Crowded tombs
Sickening ways to achieve
The holocaust
Seas of blood, bury life
Smell your death as it burns
Deep inside of you
Abacinate, eyes that bleed
Praying for the end of
Your wide awake nightmare
Wings of pain, reach out for you
His face of death staring down,
Your blood running cold
Injecting cells, dying eyes
Feeding on the screams of
The mutants he's creating
Pathetic harmless victims
Left to die
Rancid Angel of Death
Flying free

They probably like to write pro-war songs, because pro-war songs sound more evil, and violent. But I don't know how they really feel about war. Also my thing about the Angel of Death was more directed to Flynn.

From Newest SlayerSaves.com interview
Kerry King: "People say, 'What's your problem with [Dave] Mustaine?' To which I say, 'Well, he's a cocksucker, for one thing.' But my problem with MEGADETH is, I don't know who that band is anymore. It's like the METALLICA thing. Who's METALLICA? Is METALLICA the band that did 'Master of Puppets' and 'Ride the Lightning', or is METALLICA the band who got to the point where they felt they could put out 'Load' and 'Reload'? It's lie, 'Who are you?'"

Kerry King: I don't know. It's funny how it comes back to me and Mustaine. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the media that even likes that guy. I'm just a vocal dude, so somebody always comes back and asks, 'what's up with you and him?' Nothing's up with it. The guy's just a prick, you know? And anybody with half a sac would tell you the same thing. ****, ****, total ***, he's an odd guy-**** him_ He's a ****ing douche bag. Let him talk long enough and he'll bury himself. Both have very different sides to them. South of heaven is more melodic and has more of slower beats rather then thrashing. It was a really good album though, it upset some "hardcore" followers but they didn't see the good side of it.
However reign in blood is super thrashy with driving drums and over powering and speedy vocals. I would start out reign in blood, to understand the band then go to south of heaven. Oh and if you get reign in blood "necrophobiac" is like the best song on their IMO toms voice is awesome in it, and the lyrics are quite gross.

I don't think they'll have a fairwell tour, I think they'll just keep touring and one day they'll just stop touring, like King said they won't be touring when they're in their 60's. But who knows when they're in their late 80's they might just get together for one last tour. If they do a farewell tour, it should be full of fire, raining blood effects, and loudness.

I never gone to any huge concerts, just smaller metal/metalcore shows. There would always be the scenesters hxc dancing. There wasn't really a mosh pit ever cuz all the scene kids.
Basiclly moshing=smashing into each other a ton? Could someone whos been to a slayer or huge metal show describe?

Traditional moshing is nothing more than jumping around and crashing into each other, usually a bit of pushing. However, a standard mosh, unfortunately, is impossible to achieve these days due to all the faggots who think swinging their arms around violently like monkeys is cool.

I saw them at a pretty small venue, it only holds like 2,000 or 3,000 but it was a packed sold out show. The pits like I said weren't just people shoving each other, people were getting elbowed, socked, and body checked.
EDIT-correction, according the the venue's website it, it holds a max of 2300 people.

Well it depends on the genre. I've been (all local shows mind you) to both metal and punk and the punk pits were much tamer and involved the whole dance thing. Metal (especially extreme metal) I wouldn't put it past someone to just walkup and sock you right in the face. (I've seen it many times) Most often than not you slam into ppl, but then again there's always some @$$ who thinks he's king sh*t and goes overboard.

It all depends on the venue. Some venues say they don't allow moshing or crowdsurfing, but actually let you do that and only say you aren't allowed to, so they can't get in trouble if you get hurt doing something stupid. If some asshole, came up and socked in the pit, I'm pretty sure you'd be okay if you hit him back, but if a brawl broke and such, I'm definately sure the security would come and remove you guys.

I would say to just ignore the guy for a moment then when he turns around straight clock him in the back of the head and say someone else did it, that way security can't bust you.

dude unless they are dumbshits they wont give a damn, unless it gets out of control. but most of the time they wont discriminate between fighting and moshing.

I've done that a few times when security was right there. But when the pit got really full of people it was hard to tell who was who and plus the lights were off. Or hook his foot so he falls and kick him.

yeah, i've been to alot of concerts and the rules are always differing. in the big shows in the huge stadiums like metallica, korn, mudvayne and all the security guards usually can't even see you unless you are right smack in front of their noses. then in the less big shows such as atreyu or the used, usually you can get away with stuff as long as you don't prolong it. the really small shows with just under a thousand people or maybe just a few hundred you usually can get away with it - but you can't do a whole lot. if you decked someone in the head right in front of security they kick you out. and also, my friend crowdsurfed at a local show and got kicked out, it was gay. i jumped stage and all they did was send me back in cept in the back lol. but you never know, just gotta keep an eye out and see what other people are doing.

Thats almost always a safe bet if you havnt been to the venue before. I hate the rent a pigs that think they are actually the police or worth something. They take themselves way to seroiusly. That's mostly at small shows where nothing ever would happen so they have to act and look busy.
metalmilitia101
10-13-2005, 08:53 PM
oh god i know...and you are totally right about that. all they are there for is so that the venue can give some loser a chance to make him feel superior. they can't afford real security lol.

I'm going to the CoB show in Nov. I never been to the venue before. But its obviously gonna be a big show. Theres no way some piggys are gonna watch thousands of people with one set of eyes. It's funny cuz when people actually fight they do nothing, but with crowd surting or dumb pointless ****. They act all holier than thou.

i've become confused on slayer's solos when i hear a very technical solo i think it is hanneman but i look in the booklet and it is really king or vice versa. king has a horrible reputation and i'm confused about how he got it when i hear some of his solos then i hear other and say to myself (yeah, he really does suck).
Im no expert but i would say king is somewhat a "whammybar-ophile". It gets very repetitive. I love slayer but alot of the solos are almost identical soundwise

I remember Tom saying in an interview about them wearing make-up and acting like devil-worshippers. He said something along the lines about the make-up that everyband in LA was wearing make-up at the time, but then decided it maded them look girly and not evil.
Westword: You guys originally called yourselves DragonSlayer and wore makeup. Did you think that was scary at the time?
Tom Araya: C'mon, dude. We were based out of L.A. Everything that was coming out of L.A. was looking like girls, you know. We were putting on makeup to look like girls. But we wanted to put makeup on like men. So people would say 'Look, that's a guy.'
They probably wanted to be an evil thrash band, and thought that dragonslayer made them sound more good (like I'm going to protect the innocent) and then changed to Slayer to add more of an evil sound to them.
Yeah, I couldn't picture them a power metal band either.

Yeah I'd agree on that. I know someone who's a very good drummer in a local metal band who thinks Paul was better than Dave. Some of his work was great, like on Disciple. But you can't beat Dave's double bass - like when they play Angel of Death live after the solos where everything but the bass drums cuts out, he keeps it going for about 10 seconds. When I first saw him do that I was like WHOA!

Hmm that is hard. I guess Kerry as well, Jeff's guitar work appeals more to me. But it's like Metallica with no Lars. Lars isn't that great at drums, but it just wouldn't be the same seeing Metallica without Lars, as it wouldn't be the same seeing Slayer without Kerry. That's probably how people felt about Slayer when Dave left.
I remember reading an interview and Kerry said that once they brought back Dave more people started showing up to their shows than when Paul was their drummer. Something along those lines.
But yeah, I'd remove Kerry.

Musically you probably could, but Slayer just wouldn't be the same without seeing KK on stage. He's gotta be the meanest looking guitarist on the planet. I'd have to say Dave, as he's been taken away before and the band did fine without him. Not that I would want to take him away, but the other 3 are irreplaceable.
