I'm not really into Slayer (my brother is more than me) mainly because I don't like the vocals, but I think Dave Lombardo is a great drummer. I especially like the intro to Hell Awaits..

****. I read an interview with Jeff. He said that Jaegermeister might start having Slayer headline every fall tour since they've headlined the fall tour twice. Every year the JaegerMusic Tour has come to my home town, so when I read that I was stoked, cuz man, I could be seeing Slayer every year. I was dissapointed to see that Slayer isn't going to be headlining the Fall tour, and Disturbed is. :-\ I'd be in Slaytanic Heaven if they started permenantly headling the Fall Tour.
EDIT-Boy, I sure do feel stupid, I said basically said the same thing a page ago. :upset:

I've spent about a week learning The Anti-Christ. I still can't play the first solo, but I got the second slower melodic solo down. I'm thinking about going back and trying to learn to play At Dawn They Sleep.
Surprisingly I learned Raining Blood and Postmortem pretty quickly. I still have not learned how to do kerry's final solo in Raining Blood. I've also been trying to figure out the intro solo to the remix of Criminally Insane to no avail.
Kinda on the side, I learned how to play Killing Fields. The lyrics to that song are f**king awesome to scream while you're playing the riffs. :thumb:

I don't use my whammy bar. I don't have a clamp for my guitar so my strings go wayyyyy the **** out of tune. :) I know it's kinda sad for a person who's been playing for 3 years, but I only own an Ibanez GRX20. It's basically in the same catagory as a bronze warlock. (NICE, HUH?)
I want to save up for a nice esp f series. Maybe then I can practice with a whammy more.

Hey nontie69, I already have the trial version of guitarpro but none of the versions have the solo I'm talking about. Ya know when the original criminally insane came out, how after the intro Tom would just scream the chorus? On the expanded version of Reign in Blood they add Aggressive Perfector and a Remix of Criminally Insane that replaces tom screaming the chorus at the beginning with the most wicked and awesome solo that I've ever heard. That's the solo I've been wanting to learn.
The remix is also on the Soundtrack to the Apocalypse box set. (Which I own.)

That has been brought up before. I don't think they'll make it an official thread though because people aren't constanlty making threads about Slayer. It's big enough though to just become one, and it might cut down on future Slayer threads.
Question for you, since you have the Soundtrack to the Apocalypse.. could you upload me Ice Titan? I would be your best e-friend on here.

anyway, i should probably look up a slayer discography, but i'm too lazy and i think i'd get a faster answer, but what album came after Show No Mercy, i really liked it and i'm hoping the album after is still in the same style. Yeah, I want the F-400, or (even though it only has a fixed bridge) the dave mustaine DV8R. I've seen the Tom Arraya ESP bass and was wishing they made a guitar bassed (hahaha get it bassed :upset: ) off of it.
I want to buy Hell Awaits and Show No Mercy. I've only heard the most famous songs off of them but I want to get into the other songs on them.
I once had the opportunity to buy the Haunting The Chapel Cd but I saw it only had 5 songs on it, yet it was the same price as Reign in Blood so I got that instead. (It was a good call 'cuz my favorite song ended up being Jesus Saves.)

That would cost a lot of money. Since ESP doesn't customize for individuals (unless you're a famous musician). He'd have to have a guitar store call in and have them order and say the customizations.

No, ESP would only make YOU an custom guitar if you had a store (Guitar Center... etc, etc) call in and order, and that would cost even more because the store is going to want to make some profit as well.

08-18-2005, 08:54 PM
Yeah I guess but like I said ESP doesn't customize guitars for customers like me and you, but for authorized dealers, so you'd need to go through a dealer.
Quote from ESP website.
Orders may only be placed through authorized dealers (ESP does not sell direct to consumers). You can locate an ESP dealer in your area by clicking on the Authorized Dealer listing, or by calling ESP at 800-423-8388 extension 205. Call ESP at extension 202 with any questions regarding a custom order instrument.

Damn right he still owns. The beats he comes up with are just great. Yes it's true in metal that most drummers revolve around just hi-hats, snare, and double bass pedal, but Dave is pretty f**kin' creative with just those three elements (I.E. Criminally Insane, Angel of Death etc.) Not to mention, F**CKIN FAST with them!!!

He's been with them since then, the new album has him drumming on it.
I've seen them live twice with Dave on drums both times, he is a machine.
Although I have a friend who is a drummer (a very good one at that) who reckons Botsaph (sp?) was better. I have to admit some of his drumming, while maybe not as fast, was **** good, e.g Disciple.

That stuff is insane. I heard that it once took Dave about 3 hours to learn a 30 second section of a Fantomas song.

Seeing that I have been an intense Slayer fan since I was 15 (in good ol 1985!), I have to say I like just about nything they put out, including GHUA. However, there is NO doubt that I enjoy RIB, SOH and SITA (as well as the first 2 and the HTC EP) more than the stuff from the last 10 years. It's just get a better metal feel to it and Tom's vocals were not just always screaming monotone, but more varied yells, etc. I dunno, that's just me. Still in my top 5 metal bands ever list though.

Sh*t, they've been my favorite band for a while now. Metallica was always my favorite band up until like 4 years ago when I heard SOH and Haunting the Chapel. My instant thought was 'Metalli-who?'
They are seriously that good. Don't get me wrong I still love metallica, but Slayer will always beat them out.
Especially since slayer has never sold out.

Hm, I don't think that his voice went out on GHUA, I always thought that he developed a new, higher vocal range. The only problem is that he only used that new higher vocal range and just screamed monotonously (which pretty much ruined much of the album for me). It's still good, but could have been better, IMO.

I thought about it, but post counts aren't really that important, unless I had like as many as Ramsey.
I really want to try Kerry's V model just because I like BC rich, and have never played a flying V. I do have an ESP though, and it rocks, I'm saving up for one of Jeff's signature models.

I like the demon that speaks in the beginning. I actually had an idea like that for when I get in a band. Too bad slayer thought of it first. In a way though, I'm glad they did.
Most of the other songs were pretty cool, like the song "At Dawn They Sleep". I didn't know that slayer made a vampiric song. I also like how at the end of the CD they go back into the intro riff of Hell Awaits. It's almost like how pink floyd would make all of their songs fit into this one giant song. Hahaha, This album is a demonic version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon.

well honestly hes not that bad because alot of the stuff he plays is almost the same as jeff and kerry. some of the stuff is really easy but other stuff can be pretty hard like on raining blood the really fast part the 216BPM 16th notes is really ****in hard. but maybe is tom changed his style slayer wouldnt be the same, because me band does a alot of slayer covers and when they play without the bass it really sounds different. when there playin a main riff using polm mutes and the bass isnt there backing it up it doesnt sound as heavy. so u never know maybe slayer is better off havin bass lines like that.

Tom is pretty good on bass IMO. He doesn't really have very difficult melodic lines but he does work as hard as Jeff or Kerry. In fact he works harder as he is also the singer. I play guitar and I absolutely CANNOT sing while playing their fast and hard stuff. (ie raining blood, hell awaits, etc.) Props go to Tom for that one.
I think the thing that I like most about tom is his personality when he is on stage. He acts like he is just one step from killing somebody, or like he's possessed by a demon or something. It's so sick.

Tom actually had some decent bass lines on Hell Awaits. Listen to Crypts of Eternity or At Dawn They Sleep. It's really the only time in Slayer's history that he actually shown he could play bass. Overall, he's not bad, he just dosen't do much. I agree with what was said above, he's got a great stage presence and ......used to have a good voice. Well, it's still good live at least.

Try eBay, and I wouldn't bother with that riff-by-riff book, since you don't actually get full songs. Just use Powertab. There are loads of good powertabs of Slayer songs at http://www.powertabs.net

I love the chorus. Most times when I'm really stressed out I'll just play that song and scream the lyrics in my room. This in turn freaks out my parents (who currently are the source of my stress) and they start wondering about me. /gives the famous Tom Arraya grin

Slayer is a great band as they prove you don't have to know guitar to be a guitar legend. :p

I like Killing Fields the best on that record the best. Screaming the lyrics while you're riffin' on guitar is that best way to go for that song.
Dittohead sounds like Tom has gangsta rap envy. He is trying to rhyme every word as fast as he can. IMO. In this case the lyrics are actually good.

It's more melodic than their other stuff (IE from track 5 on), but they certainly do have some great thrash songs in that album. It was the first slayer CD that I got it I really dug it. I'd tell you to buy it and check out the first 5 tracks (Killing Fields, Sex.Murder.Art., Fictional Reality, Dittohead, Divine Intervention)
My faves were Killing Fields (Love to play it on guitar while screaming the lyrics), Sex.Murder.Art (the intro is kinda hard to play on guitar), and Dittohead. (I've never heard anyone sing as fast as tom in that song.)
