Sometimes, there comes a time in my life when I feel the need to come in here and say a few words.
Now the state of the union adress.
WAAAARRRRR ENSEMBLLLLEEEE
Greatest Slayer song ever
That was the first Slayer song that I heard, and as you can see, it got me into the band. The riffing right after the quick drum solo is some of Slayer's best ever.
congrats thread! we now have 3000 replies! :chug:

WTF, indeed. I love that song though. What was number 1?
Number 1 was Iron Man.
I read a post on VH1.com of someone that said "Raining Blood" should have been replaced by "South of Heaven". Do you agree with this or not? I personally can't decide, as they both happen to be my two favorite Slayer songs.
I like Raining Blood more than the song South of Heaven. So I don't really agree.
I'm going to check out those videos later. I've gotta go to school.

The War Ensemble vid inspired me to learn it today.
[QUOTE=Butcher]Number 1 was Iron Man.[QUOTE]
...most people would hate hearing that, but it's understandable. It's really important to the genre.

I was there, I screamed so hard when he held that, one of the finest moment's of that festival for me, definately. It's so even too. Have you guys seen the video on www.drummerworld.com, it has a really cool clip of Dave playing this metal song, then this other weird thing where he's doing singles on the hi-hat, then does this huge fukkin' tom fill, ahh it's amazing, I can't get over it.

Metaloz has the rules and stuff in it.
Thanks for the Show No Mercy album, Butcher. I'll listen to it either later tonight or tomorrow and I'll tell all of you what I think of it. I'm in the middle of an Opeth album right now and that just can't be disturbed. :thumb:

Oh I see. Thanks guys.
Here's a cool interview I found. Some might of read it.
Metal Hammer: Shouldn't you be releasing a record soon? It's been four years since "God Hates Us All".
Kerry King: "It seems like everybody under the sun says, 'We want a new record,' but at the same time, they keep saying, 'We'd really like you to come back on tour.' That **** bumps everything on the backburner. The funny this is Dave [Lombardo, drums] and me have had a 10-song demo we did up at his house that's been lying around since March 2004. I know Jeff [Hanneman, guitar] has written a couple , and I've written a couple more since then, so this week we're going to start the process of getting back together and nailing this thing. With luck, we'll start recording by September. I'm hoping to work with Dave Sardy, who was with us for 'Undisputed Attitude'. Lombardo wants Rick Rubin for drums, and I've no problems with that because, in my opinion, it's what he's best at. But I think we're all pretty much agreed that the overall producer will be Sardy."
Metal Hammer: Is Lombardo back for keeps now?
Kerry King: "As far as I know, Dave is back in the band. It was 12 years we were apart, and that's 12 years of growing up for everybody. Actually, I think we're probably a better band because of it. It seems to me like Dave's having a great time, and I know he gets up in front of some of those 30,000 crowds and thinks, 'Man, this rocks!' he's playing better than he's ever played."
Metal Hammer: It's every metal geek's dream. The original, class-of-1982 SLAYER lineup reunited.
Kerry King: "Exactly. Having Dave back in the band is one of the highlights of my whole time in SLAYER. There are kids that could've been into us for over 10 years that never got to see us the way we are meant to be. I just saw ANTHRAX at one of those Euro festivals with Joey [Belladonna] - and I liked John Bush to death, y'know, he was a great singer - but something just happens when Joey plays. As for [JUDAS] PRIEST, when Ripper joined, I didn't see 'em once."
Metal Hammer: Having been around for almost a quarter of a century, what do you think SLAYER did right that the other pioneers of the thrash movement did wrong?
Kerry King: "Well, we never took time off from the thrash movement like METALLICA did. We didn't get sidetracked by pop music like MEGADETH did. We didn't lose our frontman like ANTHRAX did. I probably felt competition with those bands at the time thrash was taking off, but we always knew that none of those bands were better than us. We just went out and kept doing our thing."
Metal Hammer: What do you think went wrong for METALLICA?
Kerry King: "One word: 'Load'. But also, whenever you think enough of yourself to play with an orchestra, that's when you're too big. People say to us, 'When are you guys going to do that?' And I'm like, 'Never.'"
Metal Hammer: You've had your fair share of run-ins with MEGADETH over the years.
Kerry King: "People say, 'What's your problem with [Dave] Mustaine?' To which I say, 'Well, he's a cocksucker, for one thing.' But my problem with MEGADETH is, I don't know who that band is anymore. It's like the METALLICA thing. Who's METALLICA? Is METALLICA the band that did 'Master of Puppets' and 'Ride the Lightning', or is METALLICA the band who got to the point where they felt they could put out 'Load' and 'Reload'? It's lie, 'Who are you?'"
Metal Hammer: How long can you keep this up? It's hard to imagine SLAYER not being around.
Kerry King: "It's hard to put a time scale on it. I do know I can't do this for another 25 years. We're more of a physical band than a band like [BLACK] SABBATH, who can keep coming back. Tony [Iommi] is a great guitar player, but if you put a time-lapse camera on him, he'd probably move 10 feet the whole show. We can't be like that. If we had to come and do a show when I was 60, I'd probably bust a vertebra."

****! This sucks, good thing Tom is doing better. But my 6/6/6 show is no more. :(
The SLAYER-headlined "Unholy Alliance Tour: Preaching to the Perverted", featuring LAMB OF GOD, CHILDREN OF BODOM, MASTODON, and THINE EYES BLEED, and originally slated to launch on June 6 (06/06/06) in San Diego, CA will now kick off on June 10 at the East Peoria Convention Center in Peoria, IL.
Postponed and rescheduled shows are:
** San Diego, CA: originally June 6 at the Sports Arena, now rescheduled for July 20 at the Sports Arena
** Las Vegas, NV: originally June 7 at The Orleans, now rescheduled for July 24 at The Orleans
** Denver, CO: originally June 9 at the Fillmore Auditorium, now rescheduled for July 26 at the Fillmore Auditorium
In addition, two sold-out "warm-up" dates — June 2 at New Oasis in Reno, NV, and June 3 at Senator Theatre in Chico, CA — will be rescheduled to take place following the Denver date at the end of July.
Tickets purchased for all postponed dates will be honored at the rescheduled concerts.
The postponement of the tour's start date is due to SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's minor gallbladder surgery which successfully took place late last week. Araya is doing fine, recuperating at home.
With the tour's kick off now June 10, Six-Six-O-Six will still be a special day for SLAYER fans. On that day, SLAYER will release "Eternal Pyre", a limited-edition EP that will preview "Cult", a brand-new song from the band's as-yet-untitled new album (due out July 25), a live version of "Dead Skin Mask", recorded at last year's With Full Force Festival, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the making of the new album, and, originally available only on 1995's now out-of-print "Live Intrusion" video, a five-minute clip of the SLAYER fan who carved the band's name into his forearm.
"Eternal Pyre" will be available exclusively at all Hot Topic stores.
The members of SLAYER — Araya, Kerry King/guitars, Jeff Hanneman/guitars, and drummer Dave Lombardo — are in the final stages of completing their new album, SLAYER's first new studio album since Lombardo rejoined the band in 2001. The new album is being produced by Josh Abraham and executive produced by Rick Rubin and will be released on SLAYER's longtime label, Rubin's American Recordings. Titles for some of the album's new songs include "Cult", "Consfearcy", "Eyes of the Insane", and "Jihad". In a recent interview with MTV, Araya said about the new album, "It's fast — maybe faster than anything we've done before. No one's going to be disappointed. It's going to be brutal."

I'm thinking about calling my local radio station and telling them that on 6/6/06 they need to play Slayer all day. If they can play Metallica all day for X-mas, they sure as hell can do an all Slayer day. Though, I seriously doubt they would even take into consideration. Seeing as the radio needs to constantly play their A7x and Trivium every 10 minutes.

I'm pretty sure those are baseball catcher shin-gaurds... I've always wondered why he started wearing those, but oh well it doesn't really matter.
He wears them because he loves baseball, but they don't wear the team shirts anymore because it doesn't really fit the mood. So by wearing the shin gurads, he's still showing his liking of the sport.
I'm pretty sure that the set list will be different at each venue. I just hope they play at least one song off of Hell Awaits.
That would be awesome if they played the title track or Praise of Death, as those are my two favorite songs off the album.
I'd also love for them to play Postmortem.
Bazarov

I'm pretty sure they'll play Postmortem.
I'm pretty sure they'll play Postmortem.
Well I'm not very familiar with Slayer's setlists, so I'm just hoping that they would play it.
I know that they'll play South of Heaven, which will probably be the highlight of the show for me.
Bazarov
05-13-2006, 01:39 PM
Angel of Death, Raining Blood, Postmortem, and South of Heaven are most likely going to be on every setlist. But when my buddy saw them about 2 years ago at Ozzfest, or whenever they were at ozzfest, he said Slayer didn't play Angel of Death.

Bazarov
05-13-2006, 01:56 PM
When I saw them, they played Seasons in the Abyss and War Ensemble. Possibly one or two more from that album, but my memory of the setlist is bad nowadays. All I can remember them playing was:
Disciple
Stain of Mind
Mandatory Suicide
Angel of Death
Postmortem
Chemical Warfare
Raining Blood
Seasons in the Abyss
War Ensemble
SimonCore
05-13-2006, 01:59 PM
They'll definetly play War ensemble , Angel of Death, Post mortem, Raining blood, and probably Hell awaits, Chemical warfare and Dead skin Mask, south of heaven. Other likely's are Disciple, Mandatory suicide, Stain of mind, Captor of sin or something else off Show no mercy. Then they'll be the new stuff, and other random songs like Bloodline or Necrophiliac.
Bazarov
05-13-2006, 02:04 PM
Dude, SimonCore, thank you! They did play Dead Skin Mask. I remember because Tom was doing the whole:
"Dance with dead in my...."

If they played Necrophiliac, I'd be an extremely happy fan.
I always thought that Necrophiliac was a below average song.

But the first band Nihilist, they played Slayer's Chemical Warfare, it was awesome.

Slayer continue to put the finishing touches to their long-awaited follow-up to 2001's God Hates Us All - the first since 1990's Seasons In The Abyss to feature the "drum tornado" Dave Lombardo. Frontman Tom Araya spoke to BW&BK recently about the recording process which involves the legendary Rick Rubin who is working with producer Josh Abraham (Korn, Velvet Revolver) on the album. When asked how has Rubin contributed this time, he told BW&BK: "He's not much different than the way he was in the past. He listens. You know, now that we're in the final stages of editing and mixes, he listens to the details and makes sure the mixes are good. That's basically how it is with a lot of our records. The very first three records we did with him were Reign (In Blood), South (Of Heaven) and Seasons (In The Abyss); he had a big part in it, as far as being involved in the writing and that process. And then after that he basically sat back and was more involved in the final mixes of the productions. And that's where he's at in this one."
Are you saying he's involved at the very early stages and the very end stages? "Well, on those three albums, he was involved in all aspects of it. But from Divine Intervention (1994) on, basically his involvement was listening to the final mixes, and in giving his impression of what he's listening to. On this recent one, no, he hasn't really said anything. He basically just listens to what we do and, like I say, he'll give his two cents as far as mixes and what he thinks would sound better."
Slayer's forthcoming album is is due July 25th via American Recordings, although they will preview their first album in five years with an EP exclusively available at Hot Topic stores. The release will include 'Cult', the lone new song the band plans to play live on the upcoming Unholy Alliance tour.

Also, here is Tom about his gal-bladder
Considering Tom Araya had gall-bladder surgery less than a month ago and has spent more than two decades fronting one of the fastest metal bands on the planet, he's feeling fine. Just not fine enough for the bassist/singer to bring Slayer back out on the road yet. Araya's been advised to rest for six weeks, as he continues to experience occasional soreness in his abdomen.
"My doctor wants me to take it easy," Araya said. "He told me not to do anything stupid. No serious lifting. ... I couldn't lift anything heavier than five pounds the first week [following the operation], and you increase it by five pounds each week. So, by the time we hit the road, I should be able to carry my bass."
Araya's two-hour May 5 procedure and ensuing recovery forced Slayer to suspend the June 6 launch of this summer's Unholy Alliance Tour, which also features Lamb of God, Mastodon, Children of Bodom and Thine Eyes Bleed (see "Dates Unveiled For Slayer's Unholy Alliance With Mastodon, Lamb Of God"). The trek will instead kick off June 15 in Camden, New Jersey, and run through July 26 in Denver.
Araya said he'd been flying back and forth between Los Angeles — where Slayer have been working with producer Josh Abraham (Staind, Velvet Revolver) on their forthcoming, yet-untitled LP — and Texas, where the bassist lives (see "New Slayer Album Might Be Their Fastest Yet"). During the last flight he'd been on, Araya didn't feel quite right, and "I kind of found myself in the emergency room with intense pain," he said. Three days later, he was meeting with a surgeon, who told him that if the situation wasn't dealt with soon, he'd be spending his Unholy summer in pain.
"It's a condition that develops slowly over time, and it's genetic," Araya said. "Everyone in my family's had gall-bladder issues. For the better part of my younger years, it was nothing but drinking, sex, drugs and rock and roll. I've changed a big part of my life. I stopped doing that sh-- ... 12 years ago. So that kind of helped me go a little longer than normal.
"The gall bladder's supposed to be a really thin membrane, and mine was an inch thick. So obviously, I'd done myself some major damage over the years. And if I don't take the time to heal, I could have other complications, and I'll be f---ed up the rest of my life dealing with those complications."
Like Araya, guitarist Kerry King's bummed about the timing of the operation, because, "This is probably the first time we've ever [had our plans] laid out so golden, and you know, sh-- happens."
But Araya's more disturbed about missing the devilish 6/6/06 date.
"It would have been an excellent date to kick this tour off," he said, "but what are you going to do?"
As for Slayer's forthcoming album, the final two of the disc's 10 tracks are being mixed this week. The record's sounding "incredible," Araya says, although now that the engineers have been playing him back the tracks, he says "they don't sound as fast anymore." Araya had said the album would be Slayer's speediest to date, but King — who said the band wants to launch another U.S. tour in January — says 1986's seminal Reign in Blood still holds that mantle.
This week, the rest of Slayer will fly out to see Araya and snap publicity photos to promote the upcoming LP. But because of doctor's orders, they won't be practicing at all, which has Araya worried.
"I'm not going to be very prepared for this tour," he said. "I'm going to be a little slow. I won't be pushing it too hard. I need to take it easy the first week or so of shows. I'm hoping I can fake my way through them, and no one will notice."
Bad luck for Tom. That gall bladder is a nasty thing to have issues with.

Yeah. I'm now so mad that I can't go, I have to miss Cob, Log, AND Slayer. If I was going, I'd want them to play:
Angel Of Death
Black Magic
Fight Till Death
Die by the sword
Seasons In The Abyss
Raining Blood
Final Command
South Of heaven
Hmm, I haven't listened to SOH in forever, so any tracks on there, I'm probably forgetting now.
I'm Charming
05-23-2006, 10:08 PM
^^^ Those all sound fine by me.
I'd like Slayer's set to be this,
Angel Of Death
Exile
South Of Heaven
Post Mortem
Silent Scream
Dead Skin Mask
Die By The Sword
Seasons In The Abyss
Bloodline
Black Magic
War Esemble
Hell Awaits
Close with: Raining Blood

Yeah, DeadSkinMask should of been on there. Great song.

I tells ya! I would bet big money on the set being basically this:
1.Disciple
2.War ensemble
3.Mandatory suicide
4.*New song
5.Stain of mind
6.Hell awaits
7.Dead skin mask
8.Seasons
9.*New song
10.Chemical warfare
11.Black magic/captor of sin-or any other very old slayer song
12.Postmortem
13.Raining blood
14.South of Heaven
15.Angel of Death

Slayer are only going to be playing Cult for new songs.
1.Disciple
2.War ensemble
3.Mandatory suicide
4.*New song
5.Stain of mind
6.Hell awaits
7.Dead skin mask
8.Seasons
9.*New song
10.Chemical warfare
11.Black magic/captor of sin-or any other very old slayer song
12.Chemical Warfare
13.Postmortem
14.Raining blood
15.South of Heaven
16.Angel of Death
I love Chemical Warfare, but I wouldn't want them to play it 2 times in one show...
Additionally, we don't have Kerrang in America.. well I've never seen it around where I live. But someone on Slayersaves said the new Kerrang issue talks about the new slayer album, and released a new track name called Skeleton Christ. Can anyone confirm this?

Hehe...well sorted now thanks i guess!
Anyway, my band is playing in front of a metal crowd who are very strict in July and we're stuck at what Slayer cover to do. Atm it's between 'Stain of Mind' and 'Raining blood'. Anyone got any other suggestions, my mind is blank atm!

DO NOT use headphones! The objective of this day is for everyone within earshot to understand that it is the National Day of Slayer. National holidays in America aren't just about celebrating; they're about forcing it upon non-participants.
refl
Not having any big party, what with it being right in the middle of my exams and all but I will give Slayer a blast at home.
I will play Slayer in my car.
I usually do anyway, makes me drive fast. Windows down...system up.

Can someone please explain to me what the devil's scale is? I've heard it mentioned so many times with Slayer, but have never bothered to ask what it is. Is like a diminished scale or something?
Bazarov
05-28-2006, 05:49 PM
It's not actually a scale, it's just them using a riff using the devil's interval, aka Diabolus in musica aka the tritone aka diminished fifth aka augmented fourth.
Many of their songs use it.
Raining Blood
South of Heaven
Dead Skin Mask
At Dawn They Sleep
Spill the Blood

Man, my Brother sucks. Since I can't go on July 14th 'cause of his anniversary, I started looking for locations around us. So I found that they were coming to Salem, Oregon. Well, that's like 2 hours from here. So I got the idea to just take a trip down there, stay a night in a hotel.
He's such a pussy. He won't go for some odd reason, he thinks it'll cost too much money, even though I'll be paying for like 90% of it. I guess some don't have the drive that we do. :(
