Not really, I like that song a lot more than Necrophobic.

For the most part, Slayer have finished recording tracks for their as-yet-untitled new album due out in the second half of 2006, and will begin the mixing process this week. This album is the first new studio album since 1990's "Seasons In The Abyss" that features the entire original Slayer lineup (drummer Lombardo left the band in 1992 and rejoined in early 2002). Rick Rubin, who helped solidify the much-emulated Slayer sound beginning with their genre-defining 1986 classic "Reign In Blood", is executive-producing, and Josh Abraham is producing. Working songtitles include "Catalyst", "Cult", "Supremist", and "Consfearacy".
From Slayersaves.com

Consfearacy.... sounds like a Kerry King song. =/ Not a cool song title rreally. But, Supremist and Jihad sound like they might hold up.

well this has been released:
The last time speed-metallers Slayer released an album's worth of new material, it came in the form of God Hates Us All and arrived on shelves the morning of September 11, 2001.

So bass-wielding frontman Tom Araya understandably feels some apprehension about Slayer's forthcoming, still-untitled disc, which they're still working on in Los Angeles with producer Josh Abraham (Staind, Velvet Revolver). The finished product will be preceded by a digital release on June 6 (making Slayer one of several metal bands who just can't pass up the opportunity for a 6/6/06 release date).

"I'm hoping that whenever it comes out, nothing major happens," Araya said. "It's like, 'I wonder what's going to happen this time around?' "

The CD should surface in late July, he said, and feature the tracks "Cult," "Catalyst," "Catatonic" and "Jihad." At this stage, seven weeks into recording, five of the album's 11 tracks are finished and about to be put through the mixing process. Slayer still need to put the finishing touches on the remaining songs, but Araya expects the band will be finished with everything in the next week or so.

"This album is actually like a culmination of everything we've done," Araya said. "There's one song that I'm thinking will surprise everybody, because of the song itself. I'm not going to say why, because you have to keep that element of surprise, dude. Musically, it's going to blow everybody away. It's going to trip everyone out. It has all the elements of everything we've done. No one's going to be disappointed with this record. It's fast, heavy — maybe faster than anything we've done before. It's going to be brutal. It's what everyone expects from a Slayer record."

A track called "Eyes of the Insane," Araya said, is perhaps the most political song on the album. The song was inspired by an article he'd read in an issue of Texas Monthly magazine.

"The song's about the effects of war on some of these soldiers," he said. "This article — and it was a pretty trippy article — it really affected me. The entire magazine was devoted to soldiers of this new Iraq conflict that's going on. The effect that the war has had on some of these kids who're coming home and having a tough time dealing with what they've seen — I mean, some of these kids are traumatized and mentally destroyed by what they've seen. The magazine also ran an entire list of the soldiers from Texas who've died. It was several pages with pictures of these kids. It blew my mind."

The rest of the album's lyricism is standard Slayer fare: "Hate, religion — that kind of stuff," Araya said.

This summer, Slayer will preview new material on the road as part of their closing set on each night of the Unholy Alliance Tour. The run kicks off June 6 in San Diego and wraps up July 22 in Long Beach, California. Treks in Europe, Japan, Australia and South America will follow.

"For the heavier crowd, you're definitely going to get your money's worth [from this tour]," Araya said.
http://www.slayersaves.com/news.htm

So anyway, I think Haunting the Chapel are now my favoirite Slayer lyrics. And I've noticed how Chapel of Ghouls by Morbid Angel has similar lyrics to Slayer's Haunting the Chapel and Necrophiliac.

Here's the latest news: Songs about God and Satan Part 1: An Interview with Slayer's Kerry King - April 25th, 2006
Peter Atkinson of Knac.com recently conducted an interview with Slayer guitarist Kerry King. A few excerpts from the chat follow:

Knac.com: I read this morning that you'd just finished the actual recording?

King: "Pretty much. We're probably 70-75 percent done. Most of the basic recording's been finished, we just have to put the leads done, work out some of the lyrics and vocals and probably do a little fix-it work. We've done all the heavy lifting, I guess you could say."

Knac.com: How's it gone so far?

King: "Pretty good. We usually come in pretty well prepared, and we know what we wanna do, which is make a Slayer album! So there's not a lot of sitting around trying to figure out what the ****' going on. We usually go in and just hammer it out. By the time it's mixed, we'll probably be looking about a two months on the studio, which is pretty quick in this day and age."

Knac.com: As opposed to Metallica, who's probably going to be taking up a lot of [producer and label head] Rick Rubin's time over the next year or two.

King: "That's just a waste of time, (laughs). I don't know why anybody does that. I don't know how much of that kinda **** Rubin will put up with, but guess we'll see."

Knac.com: If that psychiatrist enters the picture again...

King: "(Laughs) That's what rehearsals are for. You work out your **** there — at least that's what we do. You're already paying that monthly rent, why try to work it out in the studio when you're paying by the day. They probably don't have to worry about **** like that, as many albums as they sell, but we do. Rubin's worked with some pretty 'unique' personalities [Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, Slipknot, Neil Diamond] over the years, so I'm sure he's up to the challenge, but he's probably gonna have his hands full with them."

Knac.com: That was my next question. As far as the Slayer pantheon goes, would you say it's more like a "God Hates Us All"/"Seasons" kind of record or a "South Of Heaven"/"Diabulos" record?

King: "I think it's definitely got more 'God Hates' flavor to it. But I said before we even started recording what I thought it was going to sound like, which was a mix between 'God Hates' and 'Seasons', because this is the first time Dave's [Lombardo] recorded with us since 'Seasons'. And that's probably right about where it is."

Knac.com: What's the big difference between recording with Paul [Bostaph] on drums and recording with Dave?

King: "With Dave, he was the one who was there in the beginning, he created this with us. And now that he's back, it's really cool. He's still really into the music. It flows really good and when he goes into the recording you never know what he's gonna play. We'll hear it and we'll be like 'Well, goddamn! Dave's making **** up again.' (Laughs)"

Knac.com: The main songwriting duties seem to slingshot back and forth between you and Jeff [Hanneman]. Is this more of a Jeff album, or a Kerry album?

King: "I think I did most of 'Divine', Jeff did most of 'Diabulos', I did most of 'God Hates' and I think I did most of this one, too. But Tom and Jeff definitely wrote for this one too, just like with the others that I wrote the majority for."

Knac.com: How does that work, is it whoever comes up with the most stuff or the best stuff or is it just who is more inspired to write?

King: "That's probably it. It's not who comes up with the most or the best because we pretty much write for the record. There's no extra songs this time. I've got ideas I haven't finished and Jeff and Tom have some ideas they haven't finished, but when we get one we feel is done, we just present it and start learning it. If a riff don't fly it gets taken out before anyone gets too attached to it (laughs).

"Me and Jeff have been doing this for a long time and if he says that riff's not gonna be happening, nine times out of 10 we'll change it by the end of the week. Or if I think it's really gonna be cool, I'll like wait, wait, wait, I've got some lyrics that really go with it, just bear me out, and usually he comes around. That happened a lot on the last album. So there is a lot of back and forth no matter who's actually putting the songs together."

Knac.com: How many songs will be on the new album?

King: "As far as I know, there's gonna be 11, because that's how many we wrote. And that's worldwide. Usually we have a couple leftover for the foreign markets, but this time I don't think we're going to do anything extra, even cover songs, because we've already torn down the drums, we've changed studios, we're working on stitching everything together, so we'd be hard pressed to do anything else."

People get them confused with death metal because of their lyrics. Dm has a reputation for having some sort of vile lyrics. Slayer, indeed, has that. But it's more the fact of their riffs, thrashing, heavy, distorted, and "gut-busting". The fact they're considered DM is just a common misconseption. They're purely thrash, with a lot of punk influences.

Undisputed attitude wasn't a good album, I think. The only good purpose it served was showing the punk roots in thrash metal. Tom doesn't really have a punk-oriented voice past RIB. Their riffs and Dave's beats is really what makes the band what they are.

Yeah, I like Die By The Sword. I haven't really heard Chemical Warfare though. What's the meaning of the song?

I found this on Slayer saves, it's talking how their new album could be their fastest yet. We'll see.

It's fast, heavy - maybe faster than anything we've done before.

"This article - and it was a pretty trippy article - it really affected me. The entire magazine was devoted to soldiers of this new Iraq conflict that's going on. The effect that the war has had on some of these kids who're coming home and having a tough time dealing with what they've seen - I mean, some of these kids are traumatized and mentally destroyed by what they've seen. The magazine also ran an entire list of the soldiers from Texas who've died. It was several pages with pictures of these kids. It blew my mind."

The rest of the album's lyricism is standard Slayer fare: "Hate, religion - that kind of stuff," Araya said.

This summer, Slayer will preview new material on the road as part of their closing set on each night of the Unholy Alliance Tour. The run kicks off June 6 in San Diego and wraps up July 22 in Long Beach, California. Treks in Europe, Japan, Australia and South America will follow.

I wonder what the guys looked like when they were like..three years old. Strange to think about.

I never liked Mandatory Suicide much, cool title though.

I'm not big on that song either, but I dig the solo and intro to that song.

SimonCore

Mandatory Suicide is easily one of my favourite Slayer songs. Abit short though, and they could have done more of the song instead of that wierd bit at the end.

So, can anyone send me Show No Mercy? I really want to hear it.

Show no Mercy, the song?

so I was up really late last night and saw Vh1's top 40 Metal Songs... it was rather dissapointing, Slayer was in the teens with Raining Blood which was rather cool, but GnR's Welcome to the Jungle was placed at number 2. WTF?

Thor
05-07-2006, 01:12 PM
Actually I'd like to get the entire album, if that's at all possible.

...and GnR isn't metal, wtf?

VH1 Is garbage for Metal. They think the heaviest metal band is like Poison or Alice Cooper.

Bazarov
05-07-2006, 03:18 PM
True.. hahaha Eddie Trunk came on and said something along the lines of we're continuing our countdown of brutal metal, and the next song was Rock You Like A Hurricane.

There was a healthy mix of thrash and heavy metal in there, but man when Korn, and System of A Down songs are placed at like 12 and 23 and stuff, it just ruins it. Sepultura was placed in there, it was surprising.

Nostalgia
05-07-2006, 03:21 PM
Yeah, VH1 focuses more on like...The 80's metal. I don't know why they choose to, but they do.

They have some heavy bands; nothing too big though.

Bazarov
05-07-2006, 03:26 PM
One thing I thought was odd, is that I remember once while watching Metal Mania, Eddie and Dee Snyder (I think it was Dee) were basically talking about how they don't like nu-metal bands.... but then Eddie owns VH1 so why would he even allow SOAD, Marylin Manson, and Korn to be on that list?

NP: Slayer - DDAMM

The completely ignore Death metal, but they seemed to acknowledge that mallcore/nu-metal bullcrap. I didn't understand it. It's way too commercial, but entertaining nonetheless

Bazarov

It's odd yeah. I have this jaegertour magazine, and in there both Tom and Kerry are promoting Hatebreed and Killswitch... ew. And Kerry needs to stop his obsession with Slipknot.

For some reason, I think this new album is going to be better than GHUA, but still not really a good album.
