I've seen I want to hold your hand off the first performance.

You know, I really enjoy the Beatles' live stuff ('65 and earlier moreover), they're really good showmen. The energy they had at Shea Stadium was pretty amazing for the time. Moreover, later on, they just, well, stopped caring, and it really shows.

I want to see that footage of them at The Cavern. That's probably the best live Beatles you'd ever see (except for the Rooftop concert).

For those that didn't see Paul McCartney's Half-Time Performance at the 39th Superbowl, the setlist was as follows:

Drive My Car

Funny you mention that, I was dreaming that today as I often do, me in my time-warp. I was listening to "Love You To" off Revolver at the time. A mate of mine recorded me when I was smashed off my face talking about how I wanted to make it big and be like the Beatles and Pink Floyd, sad but true.

Imagine4Lennon

Sad thing is the second disc always falls out of my rotation, but Sexie Sadie is awesome.

The White Album, in my opinion is the beat Beatles album, it's so..versatile..and..different. I love it. The second disc is in my opinion the better disc. I like a greater percantage of the songs on 2 than 1.
I pretty much like the whole white album, except three songs, which in my mind suck
-Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (eww)
- Mother Nature's Son (throws up)
- Wild Honey Pie (meh)

A lot of beatles fans don't like revolution 9 because it's so weird and eerie. I think it's cool. You have to remember/respect how much time it must have taken to put together all those clips, and arrange the backwards looping, and sound effects etc. You also have to keep in mind how INCREDIBLY ****ed up John and Yoko must have been (meaning ****ed up on drugs) when they put it together. It's a cool little song-collage. It's followed up by Good Night, which is a beautiful closer to an incredible album

I don't think they would need to be ****ed up to do rev. 9, he just kept on running upstairs to the sound library at EMI and making loops. Apperently the "Number Nine, Number Nine" bit was something an engineer said that they just worked into it, but the power it has over people whan they first listen to it is very interesting. It's like being ****ed in a way, really paranoid, afraid of whats comming next, its a sound trip, really. You should read what John had to say about it in the big anthology book-- pretty interesting.

That was a joke :) I think it was good.

The End was intended to be the last song on the last beatles album, but as a joke they pasted her majesty on the end there.

so, when listening to it, the listener listens to 'the end' and thinks it is the last song (as her majesty is not on the back of the original british lp). The listener thinks "it's sad that beatles split up" etc, and "that album is good".

Then, he/she hears her majesty (as a joke).

I'm reading A Day in the Life right now. I've only gotten up to the earlier period but it mentions how although they were poppy they were original. Most artists in the period just did covers of other people's songs but the Beatles were doing original songs. Musically, because they didn't have much musical training or something, they were unique because instead of using that chord progression from like every period song they used other chords that didn't fit in the context, prompting Bob Dylan to call them "outrageous". Bob Dylan also introduced the Beatles to marijuana.

hmm, i'd have to say no, by todays standards, Yes, i'd just leave it at their early songs where very upbeat, and poppy.

i must admit i listen to their later stuff more then their early stuff, but i really think the early stuff is good,

On other matters,
would i be right in saying that "she Loves You" is the first song The Beatles started experimenting with Lyrics and music. if you watch the Beatles Anthology DVDs Paul McCartney says something along the lines of:

"we first started thinking about being different... i think it was "She Loves You" i said to john 'oh whats something that hasnt been done before' and we finally thought we'd try and write a song as if it was a conversation with some one else"

Lennon and McCartney were the best of mates, although they did go through a rough patch during the break up, John released his, anger, and anything he might have against paul with his song "How do you sleep?"

George Harrison must of stayed good mates with John because he went and played Guitar on John's Albumn "Imagine".

and you hear Ringo saying (on the beatles Anthology) when he talks about the break up and their feelings for each other:

The picture was of three people in civil war clothing, one man in a suit with mutton-chop side burns (v. 1870's), an asian guy in a civil war uniform, and a very very ugly woman with a big nose(shockingly ugly) in a southern-belle sort of dress fanning herself and smiling coyly at the camera.
What does this have to do with the Beatles, you may ask? Well, the asian guy in the uniform looked sort of familiar, maybe like Yoko Ono, and then I looked again at the lady in the dress and realized it was John Lennon, at which point I shreiked with laughter, causing people to stare. I guess it was an original photo, and it cost $1200 so my guess is it was pretty rare

keeping the forum rolling, i'm sure we have all heard some Amazing Beatle's covers, and quite frankly some covers that are really ****e,
What are some amazing Beatles covers that you have heard?

And what are some ****e Beatles Covers that you have Heard?

Great Beatles Covers i have heard:

Oasis covered I am the Walrus, Live, a feat in its self i think is a amazing seen alot of the Beatles later Stuff was designed so it couldnt be performed live and Oasis did it f-ing brilliantly.

Rufus Wainright, Moby and i think Sean Lennon covered Across the Universe, extremely well at the 9/11 John Lennon Tribute Concert.

Stone Temple Piolets, Revolution.

The Vines, I'm Only Sleeping.

Some ****e Beatles Covers:

Craig Davids covered Come together, and absolutley f-ing pulled it apart, and ripped it to shreds, he added a section of his own which was a god **** crap for fuks sake.

Michael Jackson has covered many Beatles songs, and his voice is WAY to poppy to be singing any of the Beatles stuff, it ruins it for me to hear his voice in Come Together or Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,

Kid Rock - Come Together,

and there is probably many more, give us your imput and post some more good or badly done beatles covers.

Clown Phobia, having the same lyrics doesn't make a song a cover. If the music is the same, sure, but one line of lyrics being similar doesn't equal a cover.

I don't think he's a bad drummer, just not anything special. He does have one excuse though, he had to keep a steady beat during the touring period or else the songs might have just crumbled since no one could hear himself.

Ringo is defintaly not the best drummer, defintaly doesnt suck for whoever thinks that (you just cant go crazy on a set for a band like the beatles), but is by far, one of the most inspirational without doubt

Oh yeah they sell out in 10 minutes.

When we went in October '02, we had to go to our friend's house and use their DSL and has like ten windows open so we could get a chance at some good seats.

To the person who said Ringo Starr sucks as a drummer, well....no I won't be a newb punk kid and say **** you. So instead I'll say....

F*U*C*K YOU!

Anyway, if you really think about it, were The Beatles' really that great at any of their instrumetns? Not too great (except maybe Paul on bass) compared to lots of other people, but is that really the point? No. They made badass music, and it sounded good. So in the end, thats what matters.

Personally (and I'm a drummer for those of you who don't know me) Ringo's drum sound on Abbey Road is the best drum sound of all time. No question about it. And the licks that he does on those great sounding toms sounds so wonderful.

And that's why The Beatle's are the greatest band of all time.

I beg to differ on this statement. I believe from my knowledge that Ringo is a solid, extremely reliable drummer and if you listened to any of the Beatles music you would realise that he is a great drummer who uses his skill to best effect especially in their post 1965 material, he plays a great sound and displays good technique for the music he plays. Ringo is a class act.

Yes!, i downloaded a 7 min clip of the rolling sotnes R and R Circus, and it was a clip of them playing "Yer Blues" all i have to say is F-ING AWESOME line up, can you tell me more places i can get clips or CD's of them?

As to the people who said Ringo Starr wasnt a good drummer i say:

Ringo Starr wasnt The Bestt drummer, but he had a f-ing awesome style, he didnt overdo the Tom Toms, and concentrated mainly on the snare, hit hat, crash symbols and Bass drum.

A style which Perfectly fitted the beatles, Plus Ringo added alot of "X" factor to the Beatles,

the band Oasis ( a band HEAVILY influenced by the Beatles), Their original drummer couldnt even keep time and they still had the most Succesful Debut Albumn for the last 15 years.
{if you like the beatles you should listen to some of their stuff}

And to the Person who said Paul McCartney was the only one of the beatles really fantastic at their Instrument,

George Harrison IMO is about the 5th Best Guitarest yet,and i think Harrison was very, very, very bloody Underated.

but i half agree with you in the sence that "They Could be Better"

but its not their talent that got them to the top, its the songs they produced.so youn knjow it doesnt mater how talented they were at their individual instrument.

Yikes. Sgt. Joker, you have good ideas, but would it kill you to be a bit more precise with your typing?

Go to www.downloads.com and search for "Limewire"
download that,
then in videos, search "The Rock and Roll Circus" or "Dirty Mac" or even "John Lennon and it should come up with 2 hits,
the Hit is probably the Names of the band members (J.L, K.R, E.C, M.M)
its a clip of about 7mins and it is very, very, very impressive.
(the clip is of Dirty Mac playing "Yer Blues")

Ummm, he used a lot of tom tom later on. His tom tom sound on Abbey Road and bits on the White Album are a very signature sound. early on, he didn't use enough tom tom (then again, no one did, since no one knew how to tune 'em correctly back then to make them sound good).

I said overdo the tom toms i didn't say he didn't use them, or that he only used tom toms a tiny bit,
all i ment was He didnt use them too much, or so much that they were overpowering in the songs.

Recently i have set up my cpu speakers so that the Subwoofer is closer to me then the speakers, and i've been turning up the bass to its maximum so i can hear Paul McCartneys bass playing more then anything else, Because i have never really heard his bass in many songs.

Thx for starting a Beatles thread man i needed a place to relax.
At least a few people rember the beatles as the creators of classic rock that they were. From Mcartney and Lennon's lyrics and orchestral music to ringos simple drum beats and finally ending up with Harrison's guitar.
Harrison was one of the greatest guitarist, look at his work from Norweigen Wood, Blackbird, and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.
Greatest Beatles
A Day in the Life
Norweigen Wood
Blackbird
Tax Man
Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
Also i found a copy of Hendrix performing Day Tripper with the beatles and it's hilarious man, remind me to post it up later along with the hendrix cover of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band

Did you know that at one point in Russia there was a double album you could buy, that was a combination of Sgt. Pepper's and Revolver?

The track lists were exactly the same. The front cover was sgt. pepper's, the back cover was the front cover of Revolver and the inside was like Sgt. Pepper's.

All the writing was in russian though.

John played piano on "Hey Bulldog" and also on "I am the Walrus" and Paul played it aswell.

they both played it.

fun fact!: :p

in the lyrics of Hey Bulldog, John is actually singing Hey Bull Frog, but because paul started barking at the end they named it Hey Bulldog.

john also came up with that piano part on ob-la-di ob-la-da and he came up with the song because after hearing yoko ono play a classical song backwards. Paul was by far the best piano player in the group, he taught himself to play at an early age.

ive got that one too. its definately hendrix singing w/ someone, but i never thought it was really the beatles. i mean, there is no part in it where you can really tell its lennons voice w/ jimi. also, idk of anytime when lennon would have joined hendrix onstage. the beatles stopped touring in august of 66 and hendrix wasnt playin at any of there shows. i wonder who is singing w/ hendrix on this version. anybody have any info?

pigonthewing82

Well it was in studio and I'm pretty sure its the Beatles singing. Hendrix did a lot of in studio jams with people. I know I have one with Hendrix and the Beatles playing Yesterday because John talks and so does Jimi, they are actually telling him how to play it so they can jam :)

Blackbird is such a pretty song but its a bugger to sing at the same time!

Random fact for ya
Paul became a better pianist than the others because whilst in Hamburg he was forced to play piano instead of guitar for ages because he broke his guitar and couldnt afford another one. I love the stories of the beatles in Hamburg, it all sounds really crazy and dirty, very unlike the clean cut Beatles that Epstein made them.

Well, guitar is my second instrument. After piano. It took about 2 weeks to learn it, but I'd been tinkering around on the guitar for a little while, like a month or so, just hadn't gotten around to learning anything. I take my instruments very seriously, so I practice a lot. Which reminds me, I need to go practice cello now...
