I'm not talking about drum solos. I'm saying everyone rants about how great he is when it is just the samething over and over. You have to put a little more creativity into drumming. I do like his drumming but dont love it

Meh. To each their own. He did show that he was a very talented drummer on some recordings. At least, I think he did. But I don't drum, so I could be completely off base. But he got not so good in the later years, according to the Anthology book. I love Harrison's lead playing. The guitar solo on Something is just unbelievably good.
Woodstock
12-20-2004, 07:43 PM
Yeah, that is a great guitar solo, and Paul's bass playing on that song was fantastic also. George got into a fight with him about it though. He said Paul was overdoing it.

Best albums? Personally I would have to say the best is Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, followed by The White Album. It's hard to say which is the best, but my choice was influenced by the overall good songs in a cd, those two albums you can just hit the play button and sit back and relax to some good music. definately Srgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and White Album.

Phil Lesh was the bassist of The Grateful Dead. His second recruiting featured Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Rob Barraco, and John Molo. That may not seem like much to you, but if you know how big of a role they played in the "Jam Band" scene, and how talented they were, you would care.

The Beatles were the greatest rock band of all time. and its not my opinion, its just true. They were pionneers in music world. They were not always number one for nothing. They have talent, Jonh Lennon is one of the greatest song writer of all time.
Their music was nothing complicated for us now, but they were using all kind of musical instrument. Basic electric guitare to indian sitar and with some violin, trumpet, saxophone, etc . Just think that if the beatles had never decided to form a band, we would be hearing old Elvis rock and roll now.

i agree george harrison is not only extremly underrated as a guitarist but also as a songwriter. when he asked john and paul if he could write songs with them john said "this is something me and paul have always done together" but he has wrote some of their best work. George Harrison was #21 on the greatest guitarists list and i think he shouldve been about 14 or 15. especially since cobain was 12. anyone else agree?

Sad... no love for The Beatles thread. I have a question for everyone: what is up with Revoluion 9? Like, what is it? I've hear rumors that it says "turn me on dead man" backwards, but its more likely than not one of those coincidence things, seeing as I don't see how anyone could purposely put a backwards message in a song. Anyone know of any meaning to the song, or is it just random crap?

any body ever see the simpsons episode about homer when he was in the barbershop quartet called the be-sharps? i just watched that episode recently and noticed all the beatles references in it. homer's band was basically based on the story of the beatles. the similarities i found were:
1) they threw out chief wiggum and took in barney, at first to their fan's dissaproval, like ringo's replacement of pete best
2) their final concert was on a rooftop
3) barney started going out with a woman exactly like yoko ono and made a song similar to revolution 9, angering the rest of the band
4) they released an album called "bigger than jesus," reflecting john's famous controversy. the album cover was the be-sharps walking across water a la the beatles on abbey road
5) the back of one of their album covers resembles sgt pepper in that everyone but homer was facing front, like paul

I can't think of any artist that consistently reminds me of The Beatles, but occasionally you'll hear good stuff that sounds like them. Eva Cassidy does a great cover of Imagine, really makes the song her own.
A lot of bands have covered Imagine. Of course some are good and some are bad. I heard A perfect circle cover it and that was terrible but then i heard Saves the day or Eva Cassidy cover it and i was impressed.

lol....that sounds like a great book
Jet reminds me of the Beatles a little bit...I'm not sure why, but they do.
jet reminds me of the beatles/rolling stones/ACDC, they r trying to bring back the 60's sound, unfortuantly i dont think thats possible
If only john lennon was alive ey,
Oh speaking of john lennon, I'm only fourteen so i never got a chance to see any of them but wat was really bloody awesome was, there is this guy called John Walters and he used to do this show called Looking Through a Glass Onion, n in this show, he would impersonate John Lennon, he'd sing john lennon's songs AND speak monologs as if he was john lennon but it was early 90's and i was to young back then, but luckily he recently did a another show of it for the bealtes aniversary of touring AUS,
I'm not sure if john walters toured outside of Australia,... 2 b contiued

The best cover I've heard was by ELton John (he did it at the Lennon tribute concert in '90).
One of the worst I've heard was Billy Preston's at the last Lennon tribute concert.

I like the Beatles even though I normally prefer heavier music. They were rock music pioniers, and wrote more catchy tunes than any other band I know of. Truly classic rock.

Hey, who sings Back in the USSR? The vocals don't sound like the usual Beatles songs. I suppose Paul sang most of them and maybe Lennon sang Back in the USSR?

Back in the USSR is cool because its sort of a beach boys parody

Eh? I'm almost positive thats Paul singing Back in the USSR. Lemme listen to it again...
Edit: I am 99.99% positive that it is Paul singing lead in Back in the USSR.

George was definitely rad, and very underlooked. His solo career is really incredible, and songs like Here Comes the Sun and Something are just incredible.
i agree, but dont forget the harrison song off of sgt pepper: within you without you. i love this song and everything about it. i think the lyrics were inspired buy a henry david thoreau piece, cos i read it in school and they were eerily similar.

. I remember hearing about that lineup somewhere but I forget what the band's name was.

Is that the Rolling Stone's Rock 'n Roll Circus? I want to see that so bad!
Wow, what a lineup. Mitch Mitchell is one of my favorite drummers. Keith Richards on bass though?

Wow, you don't know much.
John sang most of them in the earlier days, but starting with Sgt. Pepper's, Paul got to sing most of them. Paul sang lead vocals on 8 songs in Sgt. Pepper's (inc. Day in the Life) whereas John sang 4 (inc. Day in the Life). And John just has a scant few on MMT.
Pretty much, whoever wrote it, sang it. In the earlier days, however, it was just mostly all harmonies, and a lot of co-writing.

I think that whoever sings the songs was the primary writer of them. I know that it always says lennon/mccartney, even if its a track like "Revolution 9" which was composed by John and Yoko, but some definatly seem like either john OR paul wrote them instead of both.
Its kinda strange how John sang so much in the earlier days. I think Paul has an incredible voice, that is probably better than John's, but I prefer John's high-pitched voice more
George is hard to tell... maybe somewhere inbetween John and Paul

yep Richards on bass, n eric clapton was still in cream at the time,
i think it is the rolling stone's rock n roll circus, because Mick Jagger is talking with John at the start n they are both stoned :naughty:
