True, but I like McCartney's solo stuff the best. Finished a review on Please Please Me. Pretty fly stuff.
On a side note, does anyone else like Magical Mystery Tour more than Sgt. Pepper?

/doesn't have MMT *checks track listing*
Now that you've brought it up, MMT kicks Sgt. Pepper's ***. There's some tracks on Sgt. Pepper that I could live without hearing again for the rest of my life *achoo-fixing a hole* *cough-lovely rita* and with Strawberry Fields, Hello Goodbye (gotta love the ending), Blue Jay Way, Baby Your A Rich Man and All You Need is Love it's definitley a contender for one of the Beatles best albums. But not owning the album I've never listened to it a whole, so I never realized this.

If you look wayyyy back in this thread I think I mentioned my love for MMT with great enthusiasm, and it's still my second favourite after Revolver.

What's with the hate for Fixing A Hole? I love Sgt. Pepper; I find it to more or less a perfect album. But Mystery Tour just tops it with it's amazing song selection.

I commented on that review...I rated the album 5...but I think it was because I'm blinded by my love for the beatles. I do love every track on that album, but it's really not a classic, more so it's just a really great record worthy of a 4 or 4.5.
Anyone else cream there pants thinking about how great it would have been to hear the beatles playing on the rooftop?

Haha very weird...I went back to the review of Please Please Me to see if that was your review, and I found the link and I was watching it then I came back to this thread and PrimalBreath had posted the same link, and I was like...hmm..thats ironic. I prefer the rooftop video of Don't Let Me Down. I think going back into the second verse? John just sings jibberish, that's a classic moment, just seeing how much fun there having.

It was on my top 10 favourite Beatle songs, on which you commented as being your exact list :naughty:
Right now I'm watching the video for Harrison's Crackerbox Palace, for some reason I find it hilarious. When he says the second line "My eyes could not yet see" his hand movements crack me up! But the dreaded moment the top of the youtube site warned me about has happened, and the sites now under construction.

It doesn't matter what/who caused them to disband because they would've broken up very soon after they actually did anyways. I mean say they didn't break up when they did could you really see the Beatles surving into the 70's etc?

Which is sort of what I was saying. Slightly. However, it does matter who and what caused them to break up, as it's a topic of interest. Kind of like JFK. It doesn't matter who killed him, he would've been dead soon anyway, right?

I discovered that trailer on youtube a few weeks ago, at first I thought it was another fake trailer like the Beatles vs. Zombies trailer on Youtube. But it turns out it's actually a movie. It looks pretty interesting.
And I just read in the globe newspaper/magazine that Paul is considering making a new Beatles? With Ringo, Dhani and Sean or Julian or something, apparantley everything was so good at the reunion that Paul has considered this. But then again the globe is not the most reliable news source.

George Harrison was a bigger part of The Beatles than he is given credit for. There is No doubt and everyone knows this that Paul and John were superior to Ringo and George, and they always will be, But George's guitar solo's in many songs made the song great. In fact, A guitar magazine did the 100 best guitar solos of all time and Geroges Solo in "And Your Bird Can Sing" was the only Beatle song on the list coming in at #69. Geroge also may have had the best 2 songs off of Abbey Road in my opnion, that being "Something" and "Here Comes The Sun". Ringo was the least important of The Beatles. The Beatles would have been great no matter what, But Ringo meant the least to the group, but without Ringo, we wouldnt hear Yellow Submarine, With A Little Help From My Friends,Octupuses Garden etc....
Hell dont get me wrong, I Love THe BEatles, I love all the members, i dont mean to diss of Ringo or George but its the truth. But Remember The Beatles ARE John, Paul,George and Ringo.......Forever.....

When he came back, Flowers were laid on his drumset by George, John and Paul welcoming him back. In the meantime, Paul took over the drumming duties during his two week break. He is the drummer on "Back in the USSR" and "Dear Prudence"

And you can't say that George was less talented than John and Paul. Combining instrumental talent, singing, and songwriting, he may have been more talented than either of them. Instrumentally, he's undeniably miles ahead of John and though Paul is closer, he's still ahead of Paul too. Singing, he's behind both of them, but his voice is still great and gets very overlooked. His voice suited his songs perfectly. And as for songwriting, he didn't write as many great songs as either of them, but the best songs he ever wrote were just as good as the best John and Paul wrote. I'm not saying that he's more or even as talented as either of them, but to say he is undeniably less talented than either of them is flat-out stupid.
Double Fantasy is most certainly not classic. Good, yes, but Yoko's songs prevent it from being classic.

I can't rank Beatles songs, but I know my top 10 would include Here Comes the Sun, While My Guitar Gently Wheeps, and Something...HCTS and WMGGW would be in the top five probably.
I firmly believe George was a better song-writer than Paul...sure he could write a great pop song, but George's songs were truly masterpieces.
I'm surprised that the solo for While My Guitar Gently weeps isn't on that solo list...but it was done by Clapton so it wouldn't count anyway.

My favourite post-beatles album by far.
I've heard various stories of george writing songs for the beatles and having John and Paul turn him down, giving him very little standing in the beatles from a general fan Point of View. MMT is better then Peppa. However, it wasn't a full album of all new material. There was only like 6-7 new songs on it, then there were 4 singles from earlier in the year (SFF/Penny Lane, Love/Rich Man).
But in retrospect, it is the superior album, since none of their material is 'new' anymore, you can't use that argument.

In other news I just bought the book Lennon Revealed by Larry Kane. I've just read through the first chapter, and so far it's incredibly well written the first chapter starts at the end...in well...December. Haha that happens too often to even get upset about anymore. This thread always falls into obscurity, gets revived, gasps for air and dies again. I don't think it will ever completely die though.
Did anyone hear something about more previously un-released Beatles tracks? I heard something about it the other day but didn't really hear the details...

back when I first got into the Beatles (maybe 1999) I found a website with a bunch of lyrics of unreleased Beatles songs. I don't know the authenticity of it, however. No clue how I found it, or even if the site is still up.

I heard awhile ago about that big police bust were they arrested a guy trying to sell a bunch of tapes of the Beatles that he stole from Abbey Road studios years ago supposedly it includes a track of the Beatles performing Blowin' In The Wind by Bob Dylan.

I'm listening to Anthology 3 right now. Its always fun to hear how songs could've turned out, or how they sound with different instruments or whatever. Cool stuff.

I picked the worst of all three anthologies to buy...I bought the first one. Sure it's great to hear the early days...but stuff like the acoustic version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is ten times better.

That book took me months...
Yesterday I found the Beatles BBC Sessions in this great new music store called Blueprints..it's an independent store that has great discs that are hard to find in most places, and it's nice and cheap too. The CD is great so far the interview segments are funny, and I've gotten to hear some great tracks I didn't know the beatles did such as covers of Johnny B. Goode, and I've Got A Woman.

Please Please Me is a truly great cd...it was my favourite for a while. But now I think im content to stick with Rubber Soul as my all time favourite...I'm Looking Through You may be my favourite Paul song...the line "Why tell me why did you not treat me right, love has a nasty habit of disappearing overnight" is brilliant. Speaking of that song...the version of the 2nd Anthology is really cool.

Alright I've got an idea...a little game to get things going...why don't we make a fantasy beatles cd...using the beatles seperate solo tracks, limit it to one disc, and name it..I'll go
Photograph Ringo Starr/George Harrison
This is a really great and over looked song written by George/Ringo (released by Ringo).
Jealous Guy John Lennon
One of the best works of Lennon's solo work, with the combined minds of the rest of the Beatles it probably could have been even better...and maybe would have been called Child Of Nature.
Mind Games John Lennon
The lyrics represent what the beatles and Lennon were all about..."Love is the answer...and you know that for sure."
Band On The Run Paul McCartney
This song already sounds like an Abbey Road-esque Beatles song. It would have been great to hear the rest of them singing along in the chorus.
Let Me Roll It Paul McCartney
This would have made a great beatles rocker, killer riff and catchy chorus.
It Don't Come Easy Ringo Starr/George Harrison
This is probably ringos defining solo track, and it's already half way to being a Beatles song.
All Things Must Pass George Harrison
Although it wouldn't have the sentimentel feeling it did having been released quickly after the break up of the beatles, it would still remain a classic song.
Isn't It A Pity George Harrison
Another song with lyrics that describe what The Beatles/George were all about...peace, love, and happiness. "Isn't it a pity...how we break eachothers hearts and cause eachother pain?"
Apple Scruffs George Harrison
Insanely catchy song written for The Beatles fans who would stand outside Apple HQ's.
Gimme Some Truth John Lennon
Following in the vein of Revolution this song would have been another one to bring the Beatles some contraversy.
How? John Lennon
This is a really great and tender love song. Would have been another moment in the Beatles history (like Julia) where we see the tender side of John.
Just Another Day Paul McCartney
John would have called this song "completley Paul" it has the same vibe as Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da.
Live and Let Die Paul McCartney
I could see John wishing he wrote this one...the line "Live and Let Die" really has a John vibe to it.
Tracklisting
1.) Let Me Roll It
2.) Gimme Some Truth
3.) It Don't Come Easy
4.) Band On The Run
5.) Apple Scruffs
6.) Just Another Day
7.) Jealous Guy
8.) Photograph
9.) How?
10.) Isn't It A Pity
11.) Mind Games
12.) Live and Let Die
13.) All Things Must Pass
Edit: Forgot the title...I'm thinking maybe they'd name it after Band On The Run...I could see some hilarious cover art with the boys.

I like John's contributions a lot: Gimme Some Truth and How are some of the best songs ever made.
Yeah, both of Ringo's tracks make good. Live and Let Die probably would have had a much better studio version had it been done by The Beatles, it was way too symphonic and non-rock instrument orientated.

I really want to start getting the Beatles' CDs but should I get the versions out now or the reissues that are supposedly coming out?
Seafroggys
10-21-2006, 12:54 AM
re-issues?
The CD issues of their original 13 albums were released in 1987, so they feature 1987 digital enhacement technology. I wouldn't say its bad, I have no problem with it, but with that said it is extremely dated tech. Practically all other vinyl era bands have had CD re-issues since the mid 90s.

Wait until the reissues come out, and wait for reviews on them to come in. Alot of times the newer versions sound really good (better than the original digital release) and other times they sound awful.

And as I listen to Something......its been a long hard 5 years.
I remember that day so well. I know many of you guys weren't fans back then, but believe me, it was so hard. So so hard. Even knowing several weeks in advance that it would be terminal. We didn't find out until tomorrow (they released the info on the 30th), but....god damn.
George Harrison.........your sun will never set. And its all right.

While I've never been a fan of SPLHCB as a whole album, there's a few really great songs on there. I recently listened to "Within You, Without You" and realized how amazing it is. I love George's songs.
It's impossible to ignore some of them. Like Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite. Freaking rock on.

True, each of The Beatles had a pass of at least one uber hot wife/gf. John had Cynthia, Paul had Jane Asher, Ringo had Barbara Bach, and George had Patti Boyd. And if you want to consider Maureen, Heather, and Olivia good looking as well, all the better :thumb:

I was pretty dissapointed by Love. It didnt change enough. It does have a few cool tracks, like sticking the Inner Light and Here Comes the Sun together. The most unique is probably Strawberry Fields Forever, which starts with just the acoustic demo version and slowly adds stuff untill at the end it has parts from 5 different songs going at once. Pretty amazing song.
If it's related to creepy french people in weird costumes, don't rely on it to be good.

I really liked Love. My dad and I stayed up listening to it on Christmas Eve. It turned out to be kind of a special evening, but the album itself is really interesting, I thought. Octopus' Garden was far out.
