When Paul played Helter Skelter I was amazed. Thats always been one of my favourite songs by them, and I was not expecting him to play it. He still does it good.

Paul McCartney is a sore loser !
London: Beatles legend Paul McCartney was reportedly so furious at failing to win the Grammy for Best Album, that he stormed out of the ceremony.
McCartney had high hopes for Chaos And Creation In The Back Yard, but lost out to U2’s How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.
An insider told how he snubbed the Irish band by refusing to congratulate them.
“The ex-Beatle got up and left with his very arrogant bodyguard. They weren’t exactly subtle about it, either,” Fox newsman Roger Friedman, was quoted by The Sun,as saying.
“He walked right past Sting without saying hello,” he added.
That doesn't sound like Paul at all.
But he shouldn't have lost to U2 anyway...they are pretty bad.

I would be pissed too if my album lost to U2's album which just barely made this year's cut off.

That's sounds wrong. I saw the moment when U2 won, and McCartney got up and shook everyone's hand politely.

The worst part was when he said "be-lieve" the way he said annoyed me. But I liked when he was rapping over the piano player playing yesterday, before yesterday actually started.

The Beatles last concert was August 29th, 1966 at Candlestick Park, in San Francisco. Abbey Road was released in 1969. I'm guessing they hardly even played any Revolver stuff (Revolver was released a few weeks before the final concert). I have heard Rubber Soul songs from them live, Nowhere Man sounded pretty cool live.

To bring this thread somewhat full circle, I learned some stuff about Ringo today. He spent a whole lot of time in the hospital when he was young for various reasons. One time his mother brought him a red toy bus and a toy drum. The boy in the bed next to him didn't have anything, so friendly Ringo leanedover to give him his toy bus, but he fell out of bed, smashing his head into a table and going into a coma. He missed so much schoolwork he could barely read or write, and he got put in a much younger class.

And my friends have lost their way
"We'll be over soon," they said
Now they've lost themselves instead
Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long for I may be asleep

And I told them where to go
Ask a policeman on the street
There's so many there to meet
Please don't be long, please don't you be very long
Please don't be long for I may be asleep
Now it's past my bed I know

Yeah that's like me too. Luckily the friend of mine that I mainly talk music with has a pretty open mind, and will listen to almost anything I recommend to him just so he can say he at least gave it a chance. I do the same in return with his music. Our tastes are relatively similar though.
Me toosies. I know this guy who was like - "The Beatles?? They suck." He still doesn't like them on account that they're "pussies". They were actually hardarses in their day!

Well not really once they became big. Brian Epstein forced them to be clean shaven and where suits so their image wouldn't create controversy. But before that they were pretty bad-***.

In my car and home, I have a rule that we listen to only the music I want. So, whenever my friemds are at my place, I play them Beatles, The Who, The Dead, Floyd, Rush, and so on.
The Beatles were very contraversial. Calling them "pussies" is being close minded. Think, they introduced drugs, sex, and questioning to their generattion.

I disagree, if there is anyone who has attributed to contributing more questionable topics, it's Elvis.

I don't know, he had an impact, no doubt, but not nearly as wide-scale as The Beatles.
Maybe if I rephrase that- maybe they did not introduce those topics, but they certainly made them a large phenomenon.

Elvis hit the scene in 54, close to a decade before the Beatles started exploding globally, so you could argue it was different generations if you wanted.

Your joking...Bob Dylan definitely introduced drugs and questioning to their generation, maybe not sex though. Hell, he introduced drugs and questioning to the Beatles. I'd say the Rolling Stones were probably even more advocates than the Beatles in terms of sex and drugs. But anyways...I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing. The Beatles aren't pussies at all. They weren't big macho he-men...but they were pretty badass.
Haha, does anyone remember He-Man?
edit - No teenagers in the mid to late sixties listened to ****ing Elvis. Elvis was an officer in the Vietnam War, he was also the FBI's drug narc...I'm sure a few million people still listened to him though. He's still Elvis for gods sakes. Elvis became popular again in the early seventies for a while when he was working at Vegas and stuff...before he became a big mess and died.

No question the Beatles were an exteremly potent catalyst for change in the time. People (like Bob Dylan) influenced the nation by influencing the Beatles. Not to say, of course, that his influence wasn't substantial on it's own

The Beatles are a lot more bad *** than the stones. If you know anything about the Beatles day's in the cavern. They played for like 12 hours straight there, and would eat and sleep on stage. Not to mention kick bum's in the stage if they climbed on stage. John even threw a knife to scare one of the guy's that was climbing on the stage. The Beatles worked their *** off in the cavern and deserved everything they got.

He-Man was a really old cartoon/movie type thing with this super strong guy named He-Man and a girl named She-Woman. I think. Haha. Didn't you ever see that Ghost Busters movie where they say "Who ya gonna call?" and all the little kids are supposed to say "Ghost Busters!" but instead they start chanting "He Man!" Oh the memories...
I think the 60's wouldn't have been the same without Dylan because he influenced all those early rock bands like the Beatles to become more interested in the art and beauty of music instead of just cliche pop songs. And the 60's definitely wouldn't have been the same without the Beatles because they sort of introduced that same concept to the entire world.

See, Lunch are you saying I should just stand by and let people say crap like this. I think not, I'll let this one slide..... but after that.
We've been through this before, and I think it was decided by me the Stones are more bad arse.:P

That wasn't even my point, and most bands that make it big are remembered... hello Michael Jackson? The Eagles? Elvis? Tom Jones? Name me a band that has made it big that dissappeared, unless you are talking about one hit wonders and I'm missreading your post. Any way my point was, that it was just a matter of time before America was "conquered" and the Beatles just happened to be the ones who did it.
Oh and by my defination big = more then two hit albums. Perferably three.

Hopefully Nickelback will be one of those bands that "made it" but are forgotten in the future.
But yeah, pretty much any band that made it big at some point will never be completely forgotten. There'll always be a cult following for a band somewhere at least.

Isn't it fun to play the 'What if?' game. You know -- 'What if the Stones was the band to first make it in America?' 'What if the Beatles never got together?' --
I'm probably dating myself, but back in college many moons ago, we used to get high and debate things like that. 'What if Ringo died as a child -- who would be the drummer?' What if Keith Moon was the Beatles drummer? Would they have made it as a band?' 'What if there was no Beatles?' 'What if Buddy Holly lived? -- or Hendrix?' 'What if?'
We used to spend hours in that esoteric vein -- which rated right up there with the amusment of 'discovering' the patterns on the tips of your fingers....:D

I don't think I've ever really taken the time to think about that kind of stuff. It seems kind of pointless to me because the possibilities of things that could've changed if this or that had happened are nearly endless. I think I'd go cross-eyed trying to think of them all.

Haha yeah. He was the "Queen rocks" guy in the cr thread right? Anyways, I'd say that both versions of Let it Be are worth owning. Because Spector's work isn't all bad and some of the songs are better on Let it Be than they are on ...naked, especially the song Let it Be. And I have to agree with MBS, I've Got a Feeling is a sweet song. Probably my favorite off of Let it Be actually. No just kidding. Haha, does your song have drums and singing and all that? I am interested in hearing it, and it doesn't really matter if it sounds exact. I think it's cooler when people make their own versions of songs instead of copying the song exactly. :chug:

But anyways, I recorded a cover of hide your live away a long time ago, I don't think I played the guitar exactly either and it cuts out at the end but most people enjoy it! Here's (http://www.purevolume.com/ternion) a link to it!
And as for let it be, I like Dig A Pony, Two Of Us, Across The Universe, and I've Got A Feeling (the last two are probably in my top 10 beatle songs), and of course Let It Be and the Long and Winding Road. The cleaned up version of across the universe on let it be...naked blew my mind.
And in solo news, I recently bought the 2001 re-release of All Things Must Pass, I was gonna get Radiohead's The Bends and another cd with the 2 for 25 sticker, but I couldnt find a good enough one. Then I saw Harrisons best of was 2 for 25 but it had no songs I hand't heard, then I saw All Things Must Pass and put the bends back. Im really digging I'd Have You Anytime, and Wah-Wah. And the ones I heard before like My Sweet Lord, Isn't It A Pity, What is Life, and All Things Must Pass are all incredible.

All Things Must Pass owns. If Not For You is my favorite. But the whole album is very solid except for some songs where Spector's production is just a little too much (What is Life, Hear Me Lord, and The Art of Dying). But even those songs are pretty good too.
And yeah, PATGOD was recorded right next to Sgt. Pepper's.

I'm pretty sure it was recorded *at* Abbey Road, seeing as how DSOTM was recorded at Abbey Road.
Actually Abbey Road was slightly behind the technology, 8 track had been around since the mid 60s and they didn't get it until 1969 for Abbey Road (the last recorded album). Apple Studios (where Let it Be was recorded) had an 8 track, and I think they recorded Hey Jude on an 8 track in 1968. And according to the movie Ray, Ray Charles had a 16 track recorder in the early 60s, though I did have doubts if that was exactly accurate.

Anyways, we rented the Anthology dvd's from the library and I watched the first one today. Pretty cool seeing how it all came together. It was also pretty funny how they had to tell Stu to turn around for pictures because his fingering on the neck was all wrong

no, vinyl doesn't sound better......tape masters sound better than digital masters, however.
Basically, if you take a master tape (pretty much every song from the early-mid 50s to the early 80s) released it both on a CD and vinyl, the CD will sound better, I don't care what you think.
However, if you take a digital recording and don't master it through tape, it won't sound as good.

I hear the sound difference between vinyl and cd's, and cd's definatley sound better, but I enjoy listening to music, especially older music, on vinyl. It feels more genuine, and its different. I finally got my needle on my record player fixed. Hoorah.

So true dude, I have a bunch of my dads and mom's old vinyl, Led Zepplin II, Rubber Soul, Jimi Hendrix Expiernce, The James Gang, Hotel California, it feels more authentic to me listening to it on record.
BTW does anyone here know how to fix a broken turn belt on a record player?

according to the movie Ray, Ray Charles had a 16 track recorder in the early 60s, though I did have doubts if that was exactly accurate.
somehow I doubt that. unless he had two 8-tracks that were synched up somehow. i think people were always trying to do stuff like that.

In 1969, The Grateful Dead recorded Aoxomoxoa with a sixteen track machine, one of the first (if not the first) in the country. Maybe it took a couple of years to ship one over to Abbey Road :D

Of course vinyl sounds better. It's an uninterupted sound, while CDs use digital sampling. If you can find a good quality vinyl that's not all scratched up, it will sound way warmer and brighter than a CD.

warmer and brighter? Do you know what you're saying :)
I know Hendrix had one of the first 16 trackrecorders in his Electric Ladyland Studio in like 1969. I'm sure Ray Charles probably had like two 8 tracks synced (or even 4 4 tracks synced, if its early enough), or the movie was just full of ****.

Here's my take on pre-Rubber Soul albums:
I'm starting to get into more of the early stuff now that I've watched the Anthology. Before then I never really gave most of those songs a chance, but after hearing them on the movie, I realized they're good too.
Early songs I really like:
A Hard Day's Night
I'll Be Back
I Should've Known Better
Can't Buy Me Love
If I Fell
Eight Days A Week
I Saw Her Standing There
Please Please Me
Love Me Do
Do You Want To Know A Secret
Twist And Shout
It Won't Be Long
All My Loving
Till There Was You
I Wanna Be Your Man
I don't like all the other stuff that's like Chuck Berry covers and 50's rock type stuff. I don't really dig on that.
And while on the subject of early stuff, the entire Help! album is great.

Yeah I've been trying to learn it on guitar, its not that hard but I still can't seem to get it to sound right, or at least the way I want it to. I would love to find a keybord player to jam on that song with. Mabye I would be able to think up way to play the solo if an actual keyboard led me into it.
I'm also trying to learn Strawberry Feilds Forever and I Am The Walrus. I've only practiced the chords and singing for both, but I want to try to get a solo or two down for both of them. I would love to be able to play a really trippy cover of I Am The Walrus. I've been fooling around with playing the chords with the tremolo effect on my amp.
